About this property

Luxury Stay on Flower Farm by Wineries Near Charlottesville-Pet-Friendly

Welcome to Maple Crest, its new landscaping and additional updates! If you're visiting UVA or Woodberry Forest, attending a wedding at Grelen, a local Garden Tour, the races at Montpellier; or if you simply enjoy wineries, craft beers, history, antiques, art and beautiful views and hikes at the heart of Virginia’s Piedmont... and want to bring Fido or Mittens along, then Maple Crest is perfect for you. In the Spring of 2025, Maple Crest became a flower farm and, with Grelen's Wedding Venues around the corner, Maple Crest is a perfect place to get ready and cut and arrange your own flower bouquets. Inquire ahead for flower availability. This c.1929 home has been thoroughly renovated. The eat-in kitchen is bright and spacious with quartz countertops and new appliances. A cheerful nook is a great place to catch up on emails while you enjoy the birds on the feeder just inches from your seat. There is a half bath on the first floor along with a large living room with a fireplace and a bright sunroom that has eastern and western views. A perfect room for an intimate chat or a deep dive into a good book. There are three bedrooms (one in suite) and two full baths upstairs. The hall bath has an antique clawfoot tub with a shower and the primary bath has a walk-in shower. There is a good utility basement with a washer, dryer, and sink. The house is wonderfully sunny and bright. There are lovely views of surrounding mountains and farms from every room. You'll enjoy sunsets from the front porch and sunrises from the back if you choose to rise early. The front yard is bounded by mature boxwoods offering privacy and a fabulous lawn for croquet. The backyard is fenced with plenty of room for you and your canine friends to romp and play. Behind the backyard is an acre of fenced pasture ideal for field sports and for gathering fresh veggies and flowers in season. If you enjoy the sounds of chickens, (next door), crickets, tree frogs, and occasional trains (surprisingly exciting!), and appreciate being surrounded by farms and farmers within scant minutes of important historic sites and some great wineries, we think you'll enjoy being our guests at Maple Crest. ARE YOU PLANNING A SMALL EVENT? We'd love to help you host/cater events, such as rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, bridal luncheons, sunset cocktail gatherings, and local "chef's-table" dinner experiences. Please, ask us about this! Happy stay!

Beautiful home with everything we needed

We stayed at Maple Crest on short notice due to an emergent situation in our neighborhood. John and Gabi were very accommodating and our stay was everything we wanted and needed. The sheets were the softest I’ve ever slept on and the kitchen was the most well supplied I’ve ever seen. Thank you for having us and our dog!

Wonderful Stay

The home is as clean and beautiful as it appears in the photos. John and Gabby were wonderful hosts, and the check-in/check-out process could not have been easier. The fenced backyard came in particularly handy for our dogs.

Wonderful Stay

House was wonderfully appointed and super clean. It was very spacious and accommodating. Hosts were wonderful and very easy to communicate with. Fenced in backyard was very much enjoyed by our dog. We even got to enjoy some fruit and vegetables for the garden by the house. 10/10 would recommend and we look forward to our next stay.

Summer Stay

This is a great house! Clean, comfortable and centrally located. We enjoyed many historic sites in Virginia, wineries, and even drove into DC. All day long trips, and this was such a welcome house and property to return to! The owners are so kind and responsive. If ever in the area again, we would definitely return.

Wonderful Thanksgiving celebration in VA countryside

My family gathered here for Thanksgiving celebration as a central spot and we couldn't have been more pleased! Dogs loved the fenced yard, we had a outdoor fire Thanksgiving night, toured wineries and Monticello, hiked around the Montpellier estate. Wonderful all around and we will be back!

Beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean farmhouse in the countryside.

The home was stunning - so much natural light and lovely views. As far as VRBO rentals we have had, this is by far the cleanest with everything anyone will need for their home away from home. No issues whatsoever. Enjoyed our stay and would like to come back for a longer visit one day.

Just what we needed!

John & Gaby were super accommodating and responsive…the little extra touches for all members of our family (including our dog) were so thoughtful! New updated furnishings and everything neatly labeled and easy to find. Great location in the heart of everywhere we needed to be during our stay. Definitely consider Maple Crest if you find yourself in the area!

Beautiful home in a delightful setting

Lovely place to stay while attending UVA graduation events. Gorgeous, well-appointed house with beautifully-landscaped, spacious yard and even a large fenced-in portion for our little dogs to roam in. Wish we had time to have cooked a meal or two in the kitchen, but I hope to come back again with friends for a wine and antiques weekend. The charming town of Orange is just a few miles away, and there are lots of wineries all around. Thank you to the hosts for sharing your lovely home with us.

Elegant meets Charming

This was one of the most beautiful homes I have never rented! The yard was perfect for our golden doodle. The charming historic feel along with the country the views were breathtaking. The cleanliness and organization had a Spa like vibe & was like no other property I have rented. Everything you need from home available for your use. My favorite room was the sunroom, where you could watch the sunrise and sunset in a beautiful library like cozy room. thank you so much John and Gabby for such a beautiful experience.

Perfect Hunt Country House

This was truly one of the most delightful VRBO stays we have ever had. The home is nearly 100 years old and has been updated perfectly to retain its original charm while offering just the right dose of bright, modern touches. Sunlight streams in freely through the plentiful windows offering beautiful views of the surrounding Virginia countryside and mountains. A spacious pup yard for the dog was much appreciated. A lovely and well equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms, and super comfortable beds were just part of our experience. Every unique detail added to our enjoyment. We only wish we could have stayed longer! About 15 minutes to Orange where you'll find all of your in town conveniences including fine dining, 20 mins to Woodberry Forest and about the same to Montpelier where we attended the annual Hunt Race. The Owners were generous, thoughtful and easy to communicate with. All in all a perfect fall weekend in the Virginia Piedmont with plenty of credit given to the accommodations!

August at Maple Crest was a fantastic experience: wonderful house and property, hosts, location

I stayed at Maple Crest with my daughter and her two dogs for 5 weeks this summer. It was terrific. The house is wonderful - fully equipped with everything you can think of and/or need. It is bright and cheerful. The property is beautiful and our dogs loved the fenced - in yard. Loved the tomatoes and eggplant from the garden!! Gaby and John are so friendly and the most responsive hosts I have ever had. Every detail was attended to - I was working from the house for the month of August and they even set up a work space for me in the house. The house is well located - close to Orange, Gordonsville and Charlottesville. We visited 2 wineries, Montpelier, loved Grelin Market/Nursery (and walks with the dogs), Monticello and more. I can't say enough about this house, property and the hosts. I hope to be back in the future. Hats off to Gaby and John for a first-class experience!

Vintage Charm, Modern Convenience, Perfect Location

Maple Crest is a beautifully restored home built in 1929, with a gourmet kitchen, updated bathrooms, and beautiful decor. Plus it has dedicated fiber optic internet/WiFi, and is dog friendly! Our family stayed for a holiday getaway trip, and the home was tastefully decorated for Christmas with ornaments, poinsettias, mistletoe, and wreaths that were perfect for the time period of the house. Our Golden Russell, Leo, loved running around the field behind the house and appreciated the large water bowl waiting on him in the kitchen. Because I love to cook, I thoroughly enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen, and my family loved the little breakfast nook and watching the birds just outside the window on the feeder. Relaxing with a warm drink by the fireplace and the light of the Christmas tree was magical. The comfortable beds and furniture blend with, and do not detract from Maple Crest's historic charm. Maple Crest is also convenient to many cultural and historical points of interest - President James Madison's Montpelier is only a short drive, and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is less than 30 minutes away. There are multiple wineries, craft breweries, and unique shops in the surrounding small towns. Our trip was unfortunately cut short due to matters at home - but we definitely hope to come back and visit Maple Crest again - thank you John & Gaby!

About the host

Hosted by John and Gaby Ince

Host profile image
We are Gaby and John Ince. We live nearby in Somerset on a horse farm about ten minutes from Maple Crest. We love the area for its beauty, the happy combination of small-town living, (Orange and Gordonsville), and access to Charlottesville and all its amenities. We both work full-time from home. Gaby is in the corporate world. John has been a Realtor in Charlottesville, specializing in country properties for almost 40 years.

Why they chose this property

Maple Crest came on our radar last winter. We had been looking for an investment property. Since John is a Realtor, he appreciated its location and suggested we take a look. We loved all the windows and the great light throughout the house. The solid doors and crystal door knobs were so charming. The house felt solid and the renovations didn't scare us since we knew it would pay off in the end. The renovation ended taking much longer than expected but we loved the house more each day. We feel like we've done well by this good house and, if nothing else, we have put it back on its feet. It deserved it. This is our first foray together into the short-term rental market. Gaby has been a short-term and long-term host for many years in the Washington DC area. She knows how to make her guests feel comfortable. We look forward to hosting you soon.

What makes this property unique

Real country, history, and charm, scant minutes away from wineries, art, and great restaurants. Maple Crest is a lovely home in pristine condition in a decidedly rural part of Orange County about 30 minutes from Charlottesville. The property is at a once-important intersection where Blue Ridge Turnpike crosses what was one of the earliest rail lines in Virginia. The old Post Office is right next door. There are some great restaurants in Orange and Gordonsville, and Charlottesville has all the entertainment and cultural activities you could hope for, but here it's about the peace and quiet and being surrounded by hundreds of acres of corn, soybeans, cows, and real farmers. It's a great place for side trips to the nearby small towns, the Shenandoah National Park, Monticello, Ashlawn, and Montpelier, (three presidential homes within 35 minutes).
