The lodge sits on 20 acres of riverfront pastureland. Next to the lodge is a garage with a carport to park under cover, a wood shed and guest house that is also a vacation rental. Outside, a fire pit, external bbq, wrap around deck, and almost a half mile of river are available for our guests to use. Inside, the full kitchen, large dining room, roaring fireplace, three full bathrooms and timeless great room are all yours. In the surrounding area are thousands of acres of sparsely populated woods and mountains full of native wildlife. Up high, Alpine lakes and meadows full of beargrass and huckleberries are waiting.

We liked the setting. The heating for the basement isn't the greatest as it was quite cold the first night, but it eventually warmed up a bit by the second night.
It has beautiful rustic furnishings, and we enjoyed the fish and animal mounts..

Fixer Upper
This property has a lot of potential. It is in a picturesque setting but needs a lot of work. The description should indicate such. Often newly listed properties charge less to build their business. (As 5 star VRBO owners we did that) Don't assume guests know it needs work because of the price. Just a few items of note:
The deck and railing are in such bad shape they are a safety hazard.
The view is great and would be even better if the windows were washed.
There were lots of supplies in the kitchen but some items (pots, pans, cookie sheet) are in bad shape and simply need to be discarded/replaced.
The "luxurious" sunken tub should be in one of the photos. It is an old green tub installed in the floor.
No one slept in the upstairs because it was too hot.
The managers were very responsive to questions we had and kept us informed about unexpected work on the well. Kudos to them.
This is a unique property. With some work and attention to detail it can definitely be 5 star.
What an amazing house. I felt like we were staying in a museum. There were so many incredible items to look at. Our group was absolutely amazed. The beds were comfy and we loved the view of the Clark Fork River. The house was comfy and has a lot of character. This is one house I will remember!
We loved the Sheep Mountain Lodge!! House was roomy with privacy and location was perfect right on the river. Hosts are the BEST … always available and VERY helpful!! Highly recommend👍🏼
Beautiful cabin close to the river, dogs loved it!!!

Things are not what they seem
The pictures on the site are so deceiving. The location is fantastic. Beautiful setting and very quiet. The exterior of the house is completely falling apart. Rotted out deck, 1”thick moss growing on stairs near the outdoor grill, full garbage upon arrival, and the most disappointing thing was how tall the grass/weeds were in the yard. The fire pit was a mess. Metal folding chairs just sitting near it and laying across the ground. Most of them were rusty. And NO path through the tall grass/weeds to access the fire pit OR the river.
The interior was ok. Super outdated and no screens on any windows or sliding doors. So we could not leave them open. But saw them leaning against the house in a pile outside. And the big picture windows were dirty and hazy. All of the interesting memorabilia in the house needed to desperately be dusted. The house has so much potential but just needs some TLC.

Great outdoor vacation
This was a beautiful outdoor vacation. The scenery was amazing and there were several outdoor things to do nearby. There was another cabin right next to ours but still plenty of privacy.
It is an older cabin that needs some work but there is a lot of space for a great price.
It was great it was my first time being in Montana and having the cabin was just a relaxing moment. It has everything that is provided the renter manager was so helpful since we though we got lost he was there to help us such a great experience
This home provided us a comfortable place to sleep, relax, spend time together, and watch the sunset from the deck after we put the kids to bed. Very large, more than enough bedrooms to accommodate all 9 of us and the AC Isiah installed just before our arrival was much apprecited!
Beautiful relaxing setting. You know you are in Montana the minute you walk into the home.
The rental process was so easy. We were sent little reminders to keep you excited.
We loved our stay there. It was rustic. Definitely geared to the Montana enthusiast.
The only negative is that you cannot go anywhere in the home without steps. Not that many steps but not great for someone with knee issues. They do tell you up front not handicap assessable.
Highly recommend the process & the rental.
We spent the most wonderful weekend at the lodge with my entire extended family including a bunch of small children. The house had more than enough space for us all. We found the entire place so comfortable and quirky! We will absolutely rent the Sheep Mountain Lodge again! Isaiah was wonderful about communicating with us and helping us with anything we needed.

Good location, great view, comfy beds
Allow me to just start off with the cons of the property... The house is outdated and in places in need of repair, mostly problems with the outside of the house. Such as the rock facade is falling down in certain places, the deck is old and needs TLC. The sliding doors need a bit of a push and waggle to get them rolling. Oh and the dishwasher is poor in its washing ability. Over half of the dishes had been put away dirty!! Yuck and poor experience for the new renter! Rewashing 2 loads of dishes took care of the problem, but not what I wanted to do while on vacation. The house is cold with out a fire going, there are space heaters provided and lots of blankets available but be warned, this house is huge and heating takes time! Another gripe was false advertising regarding the home being secluded... THIS HOUSE IS NOT SECLUDED!! There is another rental property right next to this house!! You share the driveway and outdoor space with them! We are high risk for covid and booked this place thinking we would have plenty of space from others, NOT THE CASE!! Also the grounds keeper started his work at 7:30 am, and while the grounds were nice, perhaps nine would have been better given that this is a vacation rental. Finally the rooms do feel on the smaller side especially with all of the large furniture in them... but there are plenty of rooms to choose from. The house overall was dirty, lots of dust, found the random sock here and there and the kitchen counters were sticky in places. Oh and the dishwasher has a leak!! Leaking from the bottom, we just put down kitchen towels before we ran a load to help save the floor. The bathtub in the main bathroom does not drain well! Last con, the steps into the main door are very tall and would not be good for someone with a disability, however they could enter through the sliding door on the main floor with ease.
Now on to the pros... the main living space is nice in layout and the seating is comfy, the TVs are smart TVs and have Netflix available if you have an account. The kitchen is well stocked and had everything we needed and then some! The view is pretty, the grounds are maintained well, the river is fast and wide, and the fireplace is amazing!! The location is great, by the highway, but far enough away to not really hear it, close to town about ten mins. The shower water is hot and had great pressure! The beds were super comfy! Overall our stay was nice, However not what we expected.
My company has contracts all over Montana, and as a crew we have stayed in a ton of different lodging situations. In Mineral county, this lodge is the most premier I know of. And if this place is booked up, call Isaiah because he is a GREAT resource. Cant say enough good about Isaiah and his team!

Hey I’m Isaiah, My passion is helping people experience Mineral county Montana. Millions of people a year drive through on I-90 not realizing they are passing 43 pristine alpine lakes (many without an extant photo), square miles of huckleberries and morel mushrooms, and some of the least populated hiking in the state. I thank God for the wonderful life my family and I enjoy here. I want to provide you a beautiful place to stay and local tips so you can experience Montana’s Secret County.
