The apartment was in great condition, very clean and comfortable. It has lots of fresh towels available and lots of space. Ruth was very responsive to our inquiries and made sure we had everything we needed. (The laundry was a big plus.) The property is on Route 1, the main thoroughfare – which makes it easy to find and a convenient jumping-off point. It made a great base for exploring the region with its museums and galleries, restaurants, hiking trails, beaches, lighthouses, and maritime activities. We especially enjoyed eating at the Thomaston Cafe, seeing the Wyeth Center and Farnsworth Museum, the boat trip to on Monhegan Island, and hiking the St. George’s peninsula (esp. the Clark Island Preserve, a real highlight).
A sidebar about the Monhegan Island trip from Port Clyde:
We caught the 10:30 ferry over and the 4:30 return, which gave us time to walk a loop from the Whitehead trail past the lighthouse and south along the Cliff trail with spectacular views, past the wreck and back to the village. We spotted many seals from the shore and even a distant whale on the boat ride back!
All in all, a very nice house in a convenient location in a beautiful part of the world.
