Awesome Home Wonderful Location

Everything was perfect! My only complaint is the kitchen was dirty and the dishwasher was full of water. Sticky counters and we kept the dishwasher closed. I'd still rate this home a 10 out of 10. Exceeded our expectations with location, amenities and space for multi generation families. space

Loved our stay - again!

Jennifer is excellent to communicate with and the home is exactly as described. Our family of 9 enjoyed the quiet, the time together, and yes, even time on the river during Thanksgiving week again. Thanks again!

Great River Getaway!

Certainly, here’s a review that captures all of your points: We had a wonderful time at this property! The drive in was scenic and added to the adventure; there are a few signs suggesting a turnaround, but as a guest, this is the only way in, so don’t be deterred. The property is well-equipped for a river retreat. Plenty of canoes, kayaks, and tubes were available, all in serviceable condition, allowing us to make the most of the nearby river. The firepit area is spacious, with plenty of seating for everyone to gather around in the evenings, though the mosquitoes were pretty relentless. With enough fire, however, we managed to keep them at bay! Inside, the amenities are generally well-maintained. The pool table is a little warped and only one cue stick is available, but it was still a fun addition and added to the experience. The kitchen was well-stocked, which made meal prep easy, and we found the furniture to be comfortable and perfect for conversations and relaxing as a group. There are ample sleeping arrangements, and the layout makes it easy for everyone to spread out or gather as needed. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet with no cell phone service—it was a plus for relaxation, although we did miss it a bit for safety. The WiFi worked well enough for basic messaging and coordinating plans. Overall, we’d recommend this spot for anyone looking for a getaway. The rustic charm and amenities made it a memorable escape!

Very peaceful and relaxing.

Very quiet setting. The house is set slightly on a hill directly across the one lane road with a beautiful view of the river. I think 3 cars drove by in one afternoon. And there's a tree swing on rope just like I had when I was a kid. And yes, I swang in it. I recommend arriving your first time before dark, or you may have a difficult time finding it. We truly enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed. Hardly any of the closests were locked, so you could get to the extra light bulbs, paper towels, soap, etc. It was just nice to be trusted that you wouldn't steal anything. Most everyone locks all closests. If it was mentioned on VRBO, I missed it, but in the basement is a pool table, foosball table, bicycle, and full bath. The bugs were pretty active, so take bug spray with you. The host was so easy to contact and very nice. We couldn't get Direct TV to come on, so we contacted her. She called immediately and talked us through a couple things. When that didn't work she had support on the phone in 5 minutes to get it fixed. We definitely would stay here again. I don't like caves, but don't miss Luray Caverns! It was beautiful and so clean! Also, if you like real Italian food, don't miss Il Vesuvio Italian Restaurant in Luray. It is beyond delicious!!! And, my friends made me go to Royal Zaika Grill & Bar in Front Royal, which is an Indian restaurant. The owner and staff were so nice!!! It was my first time eating Indian food, and honestly, I didn't like any of it. It'

Canoe house review

We had a great time Columbus day weekend with great weather and river conditions. We spent most of our time outdoors by the river or kayaking or canoeing between the 2 boat ramps in the neighborhood (45 min to 1 hr float at 4 ft river height) and just outside it. The house was well-loved, kid friendly and served our needs fine. Don't expect a 5 star hotel experience but if want a place to crash after a day on the river, it works well and there are lots of beds to choose from. The kitchen was well stocked and Jennifer and family have been very generous with what's available to guests. There's plenty of chairs for sitting by the river, a fire pit, s'mores supplies, 1 canoe and 5 single kayaks, river tubes and plenty of paddles and life jackets. Our kids loved the pool table in the basement.

Riverfront get-away

We had a great bachlorette weekend! They had multiple kayaks aind many tubes. We put the tubes in..up from the cabin and floated back down river to the cabin. Lots of supplies in the kitchen including smore items! The 2 yr.old loved the swings and toys. We'd love to come back! Jennifer was very generous with arrival and checkout times since no one was scheduled after us. Wash clothes were not provided, but plenty of towels.

Christmas Camp 2023

We had a wonderful stay—just what we were looking for!!! The house was big enough for all of us, maintained well enough— but not pristine— which worked great for our crazy family. Stocked with all the necessities we needed— except a first aide kit . Our only complaint was the uneven, dirt( sometimes muddy) walkway to the entry door— nothing that a rake and a little gravel couldn’t fix— . Our host, Jennifer was prompt and friendly when answering our questions. All in all— a great place to stay!! Thank you!’

We will be back!!

The house and property exceeded our expectations! The house had plenty of amenities, we brought a lot of stuff given a prior rental, and we didn’t need half of it. The location of the house and the river couldn’t have asked for a better location. With 4 kids and w dogs there was so much space that a couple of the kids slept in different beds each night. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could need. The kayaks and canoe were a plus, along with the game room. The hat came in handy with are multiple rainy days, but we made the best of it! 6/6 of our family decided we will be back next year!

House was not what we expected

The cons: The house was dirty. The floors had dust and dead bugs all over. The showers were filthy, with mildew all over the walls and tub. We had to clean the bathroom when we arrived there. We even found a half eaten pop tart on the shelf in the bathroom. The toilet bowl cover was loose and almost coming off. You could tell the house had not been cleaned for a while. We paid a lot of money and expected the house to be at least somewhat clean. Even the rugs, tablecloth and furniture had dust and stains on them. The Pros: The house was in a beautiful location, with the river within feet of the house. The owner was communicative and answered all of our questions. They had a pool table, canoes and kayaks, which were great. If the house was clean, we would have given it 5 stars. Overall, we did not feel comfortable staying in the house because of how dirty it was and would not stay there in the future.

Just what we were looking for

We loved our family time at this property. It had everything we needed to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family of 8 including my husband and I, 3 young adults, 1 teenager, and 2 elementary aged children. We spent time on the river with the canoe and kayaks, time playing games together from pool and foosball, to board games and puzzles, to video games in the upper loft, and time in the well-equipped kitchen. Jennifer always provided quick responses to any of our questions before and during our stay, even having extra baking dishes purchased to make sure we had what we needed. There were some innocuous insect guests, but it's to be expected at this time when nature looks for cover, so we just swept them up and sent them on their way. We loved the spacious area along the river for relaxing, playing on the swings, and enjoying the firepit. Plenty of room there for throwing a football or frisbee. There were life jackets and tubing supplies for warmer weather(although, one son did decide to try out a tube even this week). The internet is not great, but we came for time away, so this wasn't a big problem for us. The house had a large video game assortment and the tv channel selection seemed large if you need it. Luray to the south and Front Royal to the north are a short jaunt away for needs, great small town shops, entry to the skyline drive, or entertainment from movies to caves/climbing/maze, and plenty of hiking in driving distance. Definitely on our list to return to! Thank you, Jennifer.

Canoe River is a family home. We grew up knowing, seeing, spending time with our extended family and we wanted to be sure that we offered the same experience for our children and grandchildren.
We love getting away to our private, peaceful home in such a pretty area of Virginia. Cousin time is the best time! Many fun memories have been made at Canoe River. Renting on VRBO allows us to ensure that we can keep this special place in the family.

Why they chose this property

We were very fortunate to find this unique property right in The Shenandoah River. This home had the room for multiple families to share time together comfortably and nothing beats the 'playground' right out the door. The home is close to the charming towns of Luray and Front Royal, Luray Caverns, hiking, wineries, Skyline Drive, State Parks....
