Idyllic 8 Acre Private River Front-Nomad Ranch River Rock

Welcome to Nomad Ranch @ Camp Wood! Nomad River Rock is an idyllic 8 acres with over 300 feet of stunning secluded Nueces River frontage. Nomad offers rustic relaxation under the many amazing oaks, breathtaking views, wildlife watching and did we mention the crystal-clear running waters and natural springs of the Nueces! Nomad River Rock sleeps 10 people and has an array of indoor and outdoor amenities including kayaks, hammocks, river chairs and fire pits, to name a few. Inquire about our golf cart rental.

Nomad Ranch has plenty of space for both fun and relaxation on it's sprawling 8 acres. Relax in the multiple sitting areas inside of the home, the front and back patios, around the fire pits, and of course, on a chair in the middle of the beautiful Nueces River. Explore up and down the river to find your perfect swimming hole and natural spring along the property.

Three bedroom {one loft}, one bath, sleeps 10. Two queens, four twins {two bunks}, one queen sofa bed {room can be closed off for privacy}. River Rock has a full kitchen, dining room, living room and sitting room. Outside the back doors is a expansive patio complete with seating and dining table, perfect for taking in the beautiful Nomad sunsets and watching the wildlife! River Rock is less than a five minute leisurely stroll down the property to the river. There are several three wheeled trikes available for use during your stay. See "amenities" for a full list of amenities. Note this is a multi dwelling property therefor there may be other guests on property during your stay.

*Note: Nomad is a rural 8 acre property in the Texas Hill County on the river. There may be animals and insects you are not used to encountering i.e. scorpions, spiders, snakes, bees, mice, wild pigs, deer. You may also see bunnies, kittens, goats and hummingbirds amongst other wild animals. Please keep this in mind when considering travel to the Hill Country and river. Although we do our very best to treat the property for insects, we cannot guarantee you will not encounter these.

Find rustic relaxation on the Nueces River and explore the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  We have included a few popular activities to enjoy in and around Camp Wood below.  We hope you enjoy these attractions as much as we do!

Nueces River: That's why you're here right? Swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, floating. The beautiful, crystal clear Nueces River is enjoyed by all! Have fun searching for swimming holes and natural springs or simply relaxing with your feet in the water. Nomad offers an abundance of river amenities for you to enjoy during your stay. For a unique swimming experience, take an excursion a few hundred yards down River Road {off of Hwy 55} to take a deep plunge off the bluffs known by the locals as "the swim hole" or "Quince".

Frio Bat Flight Tours: Frio Cave is home to an estimated 10-12 million Mexican Free Tailed Bats.  On scheduled weekends March-September, gusts can watch the bats fly.

Garner State Park: 1,419.8 acres of recreational facilities in northern Uvalde County.  There are 10 water acres along the Frio River.

Lost Maples State Natural Area: 2,174.2 scenic acres in Bandera and Real Counties, north of Vanderpool on the Sabinal River.

Scenic Hill County Drive: Explore the beautiful Texas Hill Country and consider The Twisted Sisters 100-mile loop.  "Twisted Sisters" Scenic Drives & Motorcycle Routes: RM-337, RM-335, RM-336. The Sisters travel about 96 mi through massive timbered hills, steep cliffs, secluded valleys and streams. "One of the fifteen most scenic spots in Texas" (Texas Highways, Nov 1998).

For additional accommodations, search Nomad Ranch Rio Escondido, also located @ Nomad Ranch (sleeps 8). Rio Escondido is approximately 250 yards from River Rock.

Beautiful Country Living!!!!

My family really enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and had everything we needed. The backyard views and sounds of nature were amazing. We had a great time on the river. Fun for the entire family. Great fishing, and kayaking down stream was a blast. The house was spacious and comfortable. The one bathroom is an inconvenience for so many people, but we were willing to make it work because of all the other great features. My only complaint if you want to call it that is the bunk room was hot, it could use its own a/c unit or at least a few more fans to circulate the air. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and plan to be back. The owners do a great job with letting you know all the details, and provide recommendations on things to do in the area.

Perfect River Spot

Had a wonderful stay with my family for Father's Day weekend. My 3 kids loved playing in the river and my husband enjoyed catching tons of fish! Would definitely come back!

Peaceful, comfortable and everything you need.

We took this trip with children ages 8-13. Upon arriving, we were all impressed with the condition of the house. There were games, towels rolled up and available for swimming and showering. The travelers journal was adorable and a treat to read. The beds, pillows and linen were comfortable for sleeping and the back porch surrounding the large tree was beautiful. I feel like the owner thought about everything you will need and it was all readily available making this stay convenient. We came during a drought but we still managed to find areas in the river for swimming and fishing. We drove down the rode to “Quince”. Worth the short drive..the kids had fun jumping into the cool clear water. We would love to make this a yearly family trip. Thank you.

Great stay in Campwood

Our stay was lovely! The house was just as described and pictured, but the nap in the hammock listening to the river far exceeded expectations! The owners were quick with communication and very accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back!

Totally Satisfied

My experience prior and during our stay was a pleasant one. The property manager was prompt at answering questions and her response time quick and helpful. The home is bigger than expected which was a nice surprise. The location of the home is just a few minutes from town and sits a little back from the main road. I initially thought we would be disturbed from the traffic but come dawn it was dark, quiet and peaceful. We sat outback and enjoyed listening to the deer in the distance. We also enjoyed the sense of country life and going down to the riverbank to kayak. Back to the house, every room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, restroom was clean and full of fresh clean towels. The window doesn’t have a means to lock and initially was a concern until we realized that it would be extremely difficult to access the window from outside because it’s up high. I loved having a washer and dryer too. I will definitely select this little gem on our next visit to Campwood. Thank you, Donna

Great secluded location

Owner was very accommodating and allowed one of the guest to check in early since he made it to the house before the rest of us. The river was a short bike ride behind the house and there’s a great swimming hole about 100 yards left of the hammocks, everyone really enjoyed themselves. They had bikes, kayaks, bbq pit and fire pit all available for your use. Great weekend getaway!

Great times!!!

Everything was absolutely beautiful. The kitchen could use more light , and the ashes could have been removed from the fire pit but luckily we spent so much time on the river we were to tired to start a fire and make s’mores. Other than that everything was perfect. No complaints just suggestions. We will stay again if our busy lives permit it. Thanks for the memories.

Most Enjoyable & Relaxing Trip We’ve Had in a Long Time

Such a great time in this quiet little town. Enjoyed hanging out at the dam, The Quince Nueces River, tubing on The Frio. The 40 min drive to Leakey was spectacular and a must see!!! Morning coffee on the back deck watching the hummingbirds and wildlife were a treat. Each late afternoon was spent on the property down by the river sitting in the hammocks, river and kayaking. Evenings were enjoyed watching the nights sky filled with stars sitting by the fire and grilling on the pit. I was a little concerned about the one bathroom and enough hot water for night time showers but it all was fine and plenty of hot water. Marci is the perfect host and responds quickly with any questions you may have. Definitely recommend renting the golf cart.

Perfect private getaway

Nomad Ranch is far from it all, we were on the river for 3 days and never saw another person. This was our first time on the Nueces and cannot believe crystal clear water. We've visited Concan a number of times over the years and being only 25 minutes away, the difference is stunning. The home much larger than the photos show and it was immaculate and everything we needed was at our fingertips. Never met Marci face to face but she always responded to texts or calls immediately. Can't wait for the new cabin to finish so we can bring the rest of the fam later this summer!
