About this property

The Lazy Moose | Long-range Mountain Views, Game Room

Tucked within the Gateway Mountain Nature Preserve that includes 3000 acres of woodland with hiking trails, a small lake, and a waterfall, this lovely home offers solace and seclusion without compromising on convenience to activities and attractions in the city to ensure the relaxing and adventure-filled mountain getaway you?ve been longing for. Ideal for a family or a small group of friends, The Lazy Moose is filled with special touches throughout to make this home one you?ll want to visit year after year. Upon arrival, you?ll be greeted by Mickey Moose, aka the perfect place for a group photo before heading home. Once inside, you?ll find an open floor plan that includes the main living area, dining room, and kitchen with mountain views visible from every window. Also on this main level is a bedroom with a king bed and a full hall bath with walk-in shower only. Upstairs, you?ll find two bedrooms with a queen bed in each, a full hall bath with a tub/shower combo, and a game room in the loft area that includes a bumper pool table and reading nooks that transform into twin sleeper sofas. Wander out onto the patio in the loft area for a private and cozy space to enjoy even more of those long-range views, or relax on the wraparound deck with a glass of wine to watch the sunset before taking advantage of those clear mountain skies to spot some shooting stars. On those inevitably cold nights, use the beautiful telescope inside beside the dining table to continue stargazing. Just a short 10 minute drive from the quaint town of Old Fort where you can enjoy a delicious burger and cold beer from Hillman Brewing, and just under 35 minutes from the charming towns of Black Mountain and Marion, you can spend your days exploring downtown Marion before enjoying some night life at Mica Town Brewing Company and Spillway Bridge & Co., or you can head over to the ?Front Porch of Western North Carolina,? Black Mountain, which boasts 2 local breweries (Lookout Brewing and Black Mountain Brewing) along with even more novelty shops, art galleries, parks, and incredible restaurants like Foothills Butcher Bar, Louise's Kitchen, and Black Mountain Bistro. Remember that no trip to Asheville is complete without visiting the Downtown area and the famous Biltmore Estate, and luckily, these two destinations, along with Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, are just a 45 minute drive away. The Lazy Moose offers a private and peaceful place to enjoy the mountains, without the light pollution and commotion that characterizes the big city, along with modern amenities and homey features to ensure a memorable stay you?ll dream of returning to when you?re away! Please note: This home is NON smoking and is NOT pet friendly. There are exterior security cameras. No parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. No RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community. During the colder winter months, icy and/or snowy road conditions and delayed snow plow operations are possible within the development. From December through March, please come prepared with AWD or 4WD vehicles. We also recommend travel insurance for those staying in the Gateway Mountain development during the winter months.

In general was great stay!
We had so much fun at this place , we’ve enjoyed every single detail inside the cabin. However, the water at bathrooms wasn’t clean enough unfortunately, there was a smell like rust! But in general, it was great stay! Thanks to everyone

Incredible and Amazing Mountain View
Me and my family ( 3 adults 1 toddler 1 infant). We all love this view! You can see multiple layers Mountains at the decks. House has many cute moose decors. Log cottage has some original taste design which I like it. Bed sets are clean. Theses are 5 stars! The 3 stars given to the spider nets in many corners, windows, decks, etc, the bathrooms smells, door’s hinges need some WD40, they have noise when open and closed. Bedroom has moist smell(because of season??), checked in has a bit issue: I received all check in detail instructions but no lock code. I didn’t realize it till I drive all the way to this house, since cellphone no signals we have to drive all the way down the road looking for cell phone signals to call the management company to give me the e lock code. After that back and forth, it’s dark when we finally get into the house. Evenly them and round it up to 4 stars. Again: It realy has great views!

We loved the location and the property. It was everything we were looking for. The location was secluded, the house had great views and it was very well situated for us to live for a week.

great home in a great community.
very nice accommodations. Home interior was a fair bit musty, perhaps due to lack of recent use. But otherwise a great place.

Great views to greet you in the morning!
Went on some good hikes around the property - waterfall hike well maintained for private property. Tip - don't leave your roller suitcase sitting unattended on the driveway.

Greybeard Rentals manages vacation rentals and vacation cabins in Asheville, Black Mountain, Montreat, Old Fort and surrounding areas. Located 10-15 minutes from downtown Asheville, Black Mountain is a quaint town with many great shopping options, delicious restaurants, breweries and access to hiking trails and wilderness areas. TripAdvisor named Black Mountain one of America's Prettiest Towns in 2017. Asheville is home to award-winning restaurants, stunning mountain views with access to areas like the Blue Ridge Parkway, The Biltmore Estate, and a variety of local art and culture. Oh, and did we mention Asheville has had the record for having more breweries per capita than any other U.S. city? We held the title for Beer City USA in 2009. Hiking trails are also located throughout western North Carolina.
