This property was amazing! Great views! Plenty of cookware to cook for large families.Very inviting and cozy! Plenty of room for large families. We loved that it was secluded. When it snowed the views were even prettier. Host was amazing! We will definitely stay here again! 5 stars from us!

Cabin in the Woods with Family
My family chose this location because it was close to really excellent whitewater rafting and hiking. First impression was that the house was slightly misrepresented with how many bedrooms/sleeping spaces there were, as one room was completely open so there was no privacy for one of the couples. Many of the beds were uncomfortable - we had to put one of the cot mattresses under the futon mattress so the people on that bed could be protected from feeling every single slat in the futon frame. I'd like to let the light sleepers know that if you are in the main floor master bedroom or in the loft, you will hear every sound in the house. The location is deep in the middle of nowhere down a very long single-lane road with lots of pretty nature trails and hiking nearby. The kitchen worked out very well for our group, with decent fridge space, cabinet space, and oven/stove usage. It was a very nice house overall. Some things could use some tlc (like the shower in the downstairs bedroom had a broken part.) The stairs to the second level were a bit tricky and dangerous, especially in the dark. 3 different people (ages 11, 41, and 70) fell down them at different times so we added a lamp at the bottom of the stairs so we wouldn't have to turn on the lights disturb anyone sleeping in the loft just to use the stairs. The 11-year old also slipped and fell in the upstairs shower, so I would advise to be extra careful with young kids or older people here. The hot tub and fire pit were nice to have available, and there was a good sized area outdoors to play some badminton. The owner responded with our needs for more gas for the grill when it was needed. Overall it was a good place to stay with our group of 12 humans and 3 dogs.

Our experience
My wife tripped on the steps when we first arrived. we came after sunset, thus I would propose installing lights to the stairwell. Apart from that incident, we had plenty of room for our group of seven. The cabin was warm and inviting, with a spectacular view of the woods from the living room window. Overall, the house was in decent condition and was clean.

Beautiful spot in the woods
Stayed here for a weekend getaway with 6 others and we had a great time. The house was beautiful with a lot of very nice features throughout. Very nice kitchen and bathrooms with good water pressure. Everything was very clean in the house and it was stocked up very well with linens and utensils and all of that. Everyone said the beds were comfortable. Outside was very nice as well. We had a very nice walk out to an overlook and also walked around down to the river which was also really cool. I would certainly recommend to others looking for a nice group getaway in the woods. Come with all food and drinks and don't even have to leave! Even though we didn't run into any issues during our stay, it seemed like communication with the host was very easy. Would come again.

The Cinnamon experience
If your seeking solitude this is your place. We truly enjoyed our family with just us- no neighbors. We had a surprise guide- an adorable little brown dog we named cinnamon! Obviously was owners pet- he went with us on our 2 1/2 hour hike and if we went down a trail we shouldn’t be going on he wouldn’t follow us, would sit there waiting until we came back, then took us the right way! Would recommend to others definitely but would suggest a sign at the very beginning of the property with each cabin name and an arrow. In the dark it’s tough to find. Thanks for our family experience, grandchildren loved the hot tub!

50th Anniversary Family outing
The property is beautiful. The house has everything you could possibly need. Our group of 12 each had a place to sleep. Living room sofa and beds very comfortable. Huge outdoor deck. And the endless walking trails were amazing.. we are thinking of returning for 10 days next July. Absolutely no complaints

Great Family Reunion
Great location, views, and trails to hike. Really a hidden jem in the woods. Our group spent a lot of time at the home and really got to enjoy the property including the hot tub. Kitchen was well stocked for large family meals. We found everything we needed except a pizza cutter (Three cheese graters and no pizza cutter??) We were able to comfortably able to sleep two families (10 total). There are plenty of places to sleep in real beds, but any more than 10 may be pushing it with the bathrooms…but we had three teens. Look forward to another visit.

Awesome Place!
Multiple state parks nearby, as well as the New River Gorge National Park. There is so much to do and everything is beautiful! The property has multiple hikes for all ages. You can spend days doing these hikes and continue to find new and exciting areas(set way points on GPS to help). We also saw turkeys, pheasants, deer and woodpeckers; some right from the porch! The house was clean and easily slept 5 adults and 4 children. This was a great place and we hope to go again.

Great family vacation in the woods
What a great house for a family vacation with the kids, grandparents, and even our dogs. Everyone loved it! Super comfy house, amazing hiking trails all to ourselves and so much history. Grandpa could sit on the deck and take in the action and a beautiful view while the dogs ran around and the grandkids got to hike. Loved it and would love to come back someday.

Secluded house in a beautiful area of WV
The timber frame house is beautiful and relatively new. It is located at the end of a long, one lane, and partly paved road. You may not be able to get to the house if there is snow on the ground and you do not have an AWD SUV. Due to its secluded location, it is a 40 minute drive from the closest chain grocery store (Food Lion) and the town of Summersville. The first floor has an open layout with a cathedral ceiling and large windows that overlook the woods. Thanks to a clearing, it is possible to see the opposite side of the Meadow River gorge. The river is close, and the sound of the current is barely audible from the house. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are modern and built with high quality materials (Kohler fixtures, marble). We counted a total of 8 beds (including a queen, a king, and a full sofa bed). The kitchen is well equipped. Several trails are accessible directly from the house. Only weaknesses are the WiFi, which is slow and intermittent (however, there was Verizon data service at the house), and the dishwasher that does not clean well, so you may need to budget for some time to clean the dishes at the end of your stay. Overall, we would love to return and spend more time in this beautiful area of West Virginia.

Needs work on the little things
Beautiful but remote location. 30 min on narrow, windy, gravel roads to anything. Had to reset WiFi every hour or so. Decent kitchen but needs an upgrade. Slept 6 comfortably. Wouldn’t have wanted to have more. Nice fire pit. 2 out of 3 burners on gas grill worked. Not exactly luxury, but perfectly serviceable.

Lovely home in remote location
Lovely home. Very clean and roomy- and as presented on website. Hiking trails out your back door and lovely covered porch to soak in the serene surroundings overlooking Meadow River valley. Remote- count on 15 minutes of very narrow country road access before on the main highway. Only heads up- plan on hand washing all dish ware. Dishwasher was not working well. Overall- lovely stay and would stay again on our next rafting trip.

GORGEous!
We spent 3 nights here with another family. The home was clean and and well appointed. We spent one afternoon exploring the trails, stream and waterfall right there on the property. It was breathtaking. We took advantage of the hot tub several times and had a campfire one night (big thanks to the owner for getting some firewood to us last minute!). Fayetteville was close and provided for a day of mountain biking, a stop at the Secret Sandwich Society (highly recommend) and Pies and Pints. The whole group spent an afternoon on the Timber Trek aerial adventure course when trails were too wet to ride. The only complaint related to stay would be the dishwasher. Because it didn’t function properly, I didn’t feel comfortable or confident using the dishes and cookware without washing it by hand first. Minor thing though; we would definitely book here again!!

Outstanding stay
Excellent stay at the Vandalia house. Plenty of room for four couples to stretch out and relax. Nice view from the porch, fully equipped kitchen for cooking meals. The location is very quiet, and multiple trails are in walking distance. House has all the modern amenities you need, AC works great in the heat. This is an excellent option if you have a large group of friends going rafting nearby for the weekend. We would definitely stay again.

Vandalia Vacay
I just got back from a weekend at the Vandalia House in the Confluence Resort with some friends. What a wonderful 2 days we had. The house was immaculate and BEAUTIFUL! I felt like I was in an HGTV dream house! The beds were comfy, the kitchen well-stocked, the fireplace was gorgeous. It rained the first night, but no big deal, we sat around the large dining table playing board games, laughing hysterically and just enjoying each others' company. We got up the next morning, made a big farm-style breakfast, then headed out to fish and do some light hiking on one of the many trails. The area is so peaceful and stunningly beautiful that you can really commune with nature. We came back "home", got ready and went into the charming little town of Fayetteville where we ate dinner at The Secret Sandwich Society (YUM!). Great service, good food, good price! We went back to the house, sat around the campfire and talked about how much we were enjoying ourselves and how we'd come back to the Confluence Resort in a minute. If you go, you may make some new friends with an adorably friendly brown and white dog who loves to have his tummy rubbed before he goes back home and a beautiful, fluffy, friendly cat who hung out with us ALL NIGHT! He/she was still on the porch when we woke up the next morning! Don't worry about them, though. They both have homes nearby. The only "complaint" I have is that the directions we were given were incomplete. They end at the Patterson House, which is fine, if that's the house you rented. Since the road turns into all gravel and you see signs reading, "private property-no trespassing", you really wonder if you're in the right area, especially if you arrive near dark. A little disconcerting. Oh! And if you want to hit one of the restaurants in Fayetteville or Summersville that are in the binder the owners put together, CALL FIRST. Fortunately we did and the first 2 we called were closed--and apparently had been for quite some time. Thanks Confluence Resort! We'll be back!
