We would like for you to know that when we arrived on January 6, 2019, we found the unit in a state which was not acceptable for living.
When we opened the screen door the pneumatic door closer broke off. We had a difficult time with the lock mechanism because the inside cover plate was loose and the lock mechanism didn't work properly, in addition, the lock needed to be lubricated. We were concerned about the lock falling off and being unable to get back into the unit.
Not one lamp was plugged in. We had to plug them all in to have light in the rooms before we could unload our vehicle. The bulb in the master closet was burnt out and in need of replacement.
The master bathroom door was jammed into the wall and was off its track making it inoperable. Sentry's maintenance person put the door back on track, but the door was still difficult to operate. We lubricated the track, which once worked in, allowed the door to slide more freely.
The throw rugs were so dirty that they were just disgusting. The floors were dirty and the buildup of dust and dirt under the beds made us think the unit hadn't been cleaned in years. Sentry sent a cleaning person over after we complained, and she did an okay job, but we still had to clean the floors again.
There was a ten-inch diameter bubble in the ceiling above the toilet in the master bathroom and evidence of a leak from above on the toilet seat and floor. We insisted on the issue being resolved before renters moved in above us which would have resulted in a full-blown leak of the toilet upstairs into our bathroom. We were not able to use the master shower, toilet and sink area until the third week of our stay due to drywall work and painting.
The smoke detector above the guest bedroom was on the floor with the wires left protruding from the wall, and further examination revealed that none of the smoke detectors were working.
Access to the screened in porch was difficult before we purchased a can of silicone spray to lubricate the tracks as well as all the hinges and locks in the unit. There was a table in the screened in porch that was covered with dirt. After cleaning it, we moved it into the master bedroom to keep it from being destroyed in the porch. We used it as a desk for our laptop computers and appreciate having it available.
The DVD player did not operate and the cable box was an older unit with only basic channels, and the free complex-wide upgrade had not been completed. When the cable guy came to upgrade the cable box, he discovered the HDMI inputs on the TV were so corroded that they would not work with the new equipment. The TV was replaced. We moved the old TV into the master bedroom and were able to get it to work using analog composite hookups.
The dresser drawers, kitchen drawers and cabinet shelves had to be cleaned before we were comfortable using them. One of the drawer fronts in the guest bedroom was loose making the drawer inoperable. A screw was missing from one of the pulls on the wood secretary in the master making it quite difficult to open that drawer.
There were no cleaning sponges, rags or cleaner in either of the bathrooms for cleaning. We purchased bleach bathroom cleaner and regular bathroom cleaner, and the cleaning person sent by Sentry the first week of our stay left several rags for cleaning. We left the cleaning rags and bleach cleaner in the bathrooms for others to use.
All in all, it took three weeks for all the cleaning and maintenance repairs to be completed by Mike, Sentry and Sea Woods before we were comfortable unpacking our suitcases.
The furniture is extremely uncomfortable we had to stuff pillows under the cushions in the living room chair and couch and use the dining room chair as a footrest, and even after that, trying to get comfortable to watch a TV show was impossible. The cushions on the dining room chairs are also worn out and sitting on them for an evening of card playing resulted in the use of pillows to make them more comfortable. The bed in the master bedroom is completely worn out and too small. Sleeping together only resulted in the two of us being sucked into the middle of the bed as if there were a hole there. After a few nights, we separated and used one of the beds in the guest room.
The kitchen cookware was minimal, and we had to have Sentry get us a large fry pan and stock pot for making casseroles and soup. The stock pot that was there was rusted and pitted so we were not comfortable using it. The kitchen countertops are also worn out and very porous. Anything spilled on them left a stain that required a bleach spray to remove. The microwave works fine but is beginning to rust out around the door opening. The toaster has burned out coils so we had to flip our toast to cook both sides. We purchased a cutting board because the one provided was just gross. Sentry purchased a blender for us because the unit was not furnished with one, and we were reimbursed for the purchase of a can opener to replace the broken one. There is also no electric mixer in the unit.
Overall our stay in this unit was very uncomfortable and frustrating. In our opinion, this unit should never have been rented in the condition it was in.
Sincerely,
Michael and Cindy Miller
