Lovely outside space

The wow factor of this place in the outside space, the pool and the garden are lovely and it also had a table tennis table. The location is lovely - really rural, surrounded by a few houses but mainly fields and woods. We were a little disappointed with the house - it’s dark, has a small kitchen and a strange upstairs landing and stairs, that would not be good for small children.

Beautiful area but disappointing house

The good bits - the agent (Barbara) was lovely & was at the property to greet us and explain everything. The pool was lovely, nice and big and well equipped for a family to lounge around and the area itself was beautiful. The bad bits - the house. It was very dark (dark woods, dark floor tiles and limited natural light) and the lights that were there were the bright and very white (strip lighting), the kitchen was very small and somewhat impractical for cooking a bigger meal, the furniture was quite old and uncomfortable. The upstairs bedrooms were ok, the bathroom was very small but at least there was a shower and loo upstairs which is different to the listing. The downstairs bedroom constantly felt damp, this made the sheets clammy and unpleasant. The floor in the bedroom was also damp on the one side. The downstairs bathroom was nicely done and quite modern. There was obviously a problem with the sewage / drains system somewhere because there would be frequent very unpleasant sewage smells that lingered in the garden / pool area. This led to lots of mosquitos and other bugs in all parts of the garden / pool area as well as the house (we'd anticipated some mosquitos given the area and he time of year but this was something else) There were strips of fly paper hung up in the house which didn't look very appealing. We were all bitten, even when just lying by the pool. A shame as we were all looking looking forward to our first holiday in the Dordogne. I would not recommend.
