Can’t even begin to comprehend how this host has good ratings. This is NOT an ideal place for travellers as there are MANY stairs to climb to get to the VRBO. However, my main issue was how Marisa demanded extra cash from us upon arrival and called it “tourist tax”. I contacted VRBO and they said we were NOT to give cash to any hosts. I said I was happy to pay, however I’d like to pay through the app so it was documented on VRBO. She then threatened to kick us out and leave us stranded in a foreign country. We were NEVER told we owed extra cash upon arrival, and that it costs Canadians a lot of money to take euros out of an ATM. She did not care in the slightest and said we better have the money in 1 hour.
I said I needed to take a shower and couldn’t get it done in an hour… she said she’d be coming back in an hour and if we didn’t have the cash she was going to kick us out. Very inappropriate and invasive to say she was going to barge in while I was showering. She also said we could leave the money on the table and she’d pick it up at some point? Why are you suggesting you enter our VRBO while we’re away, with all of our passport documents inside? I don’t think that’s allowed!? She was extremely rude to us and I highly recommend you book somewhere else in Porto. Funny enough, she tries to make peace and send me a “nice” msg at the end of our stay to leave a good review. HA ya right.
