Carter house : 100 year old house with a remodeled castle inspired feel.
The Carter house has a lot of charm and character. Gas lanterns adorn either side of the beautiful front door, upon entering you are greeted with elegance beginning with a crystal chandelier that drops through the ceiling from the cozy library upstairs. The main floor has a TV area with a big sectional, dining table, gas fireplace, full size kitchen, bathroom, laundry and kids bunk room. Sleeps 7 comfortably. There are 3 bedrooms each room having its own private entrance. To get upstairs you ascend the beautiful spiral staircase entering a bedroom with its own private bathroom & coffee bar which leads to the private deck with a gas fireplace. This room has lots of great character, a beautiful rain shower built of brick and stone, and two double doors that lead to the library. The curved library makes for a very cozy and relaxing reading area with lots of books. A great place to enjoy your coffee and listen to old records. If you descend the spiral staircase you enter the other bedroom. Through the kitchen you can enter the shared courtyard where there is a water fountain and lilacs that bloom in the spring.

The house was very nice and clean. Check-in was smooth also. We didn't have quite enough sleeping space so 2 people slept on the couch which was less than perfect, but it worked. The museum across the street was a surprise bonus. Very enjoyable. Overall a very pleasant experience.
I had a really great time at the Carter house with my group!! The host was incredibly kind and helpful and responded very quickly to all my messages. The house was incredibly beautiful and looked even better in person than it did in the photos. So many incredible paintings, sculptures, and antiques in the home. If you ever travel to Gillette, I would highly recommend staying at the Carter House!!
the property is interesting. The home was spotless with a well-appointed kitchen. this is a block from the main street and great food options. The mattresses are very very very firm are made a full night's sleep difficult for my family.
the furnishings are very comfy, and the antiques were frun to look at. We would go back.
I recently stayed at this amazing rental and I must say it was a fun experience. The property was well-maintained and exactly as described in the listing. The hosts were extremely accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was within walking distance to Main Street and the owners provided guest passes to the Frontier Auto Museum, what an amazing surprise! I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for an enjoyable getaway.
We celebrated our daughter’s high school graduation and the venue was amazing!! We had a great space to accommodate all our guests and had very many compliments of the venue. The Carter House has 3 floors and a balcony with a gas fire pit along with a small courtyard allowing for many places for family and friends to gather. This was the perfect setup for our party and it would make a great place for a family gathering.
The home was stunning with antiques in amazing shape. Loved the chandelier when we fist came it, the master bedroom is so open and relaxing with a side library and a deck with a gas fireplace that we thoroughly enjoyed. The family dining table was perfect for us. We enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs and bbq chicken off of the gas grill cleverly hidden under the deck stairs. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The coffee samples were yummy and more coffee beans can be picked up at the antique shop, restaurant and museum just across the street. They left us a couple museum mugs, the coffee beans, snacks as a gift which was so very kind. Thank you. We appreciate all the little touches to make our stay memorable! We loved the museum and gift shop where you can purchase the mugs, the towels that are provided in the house and other keepsakes, as well as antiques.
Overall GREAT experience and we made great memories there. We will utilize this home again if we head that way again!
Brother was just transferred to Gillette for work. Wanted to visit and decided to turn it into a Family trip.We went to Devils Tower and MT Rushmore. A great time was had by all!!
What a beautiful home! Truly felt like staying in a castle. So glad we stayed at this property for my son’s wedding. The house was very charming and comfortable, with plenty of room for a family or group. Wish we could’ve enjoyed the fire pit on the rooftop patio, but December in Gillette is a little chilly for that. Maybe next time! :)
The overall look and style of the house is very nicely done, vintage decor and look and feel of an original 100 year old house, weather was perfect. It is located in an older part of town but is without walking distance to shops and restaurants in the downtown area, 2 blocks or so away, and the relic museum across the street is worth checking out
This home is full of charm and practicality. Had everything we needed and was close to restaurants and shopping. Will definitely stay here again next time.
This Castle is as beautiful on the outside as the inside. We had a large group and plenty of room. We rented both [properties, and enjoyed the firepits, fireplace, courtyard, and Domistic wild neighborhood bunnies!
We very much enjoyed our stay at The Carter House. It is very spacious and we especially enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and courtyard. Furniture was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had the necessary cookware, dishes and appliances. It’s a very nice place to stay for a few days.
Our stay was wonderful! So many lovely details, from the decor to the luxe bed linens. The host provided fliers for local attractions and thought of everything we might need. Loved that often used items were labeled by drawer to make things easy to find. Loved the charming rooftop seating area. We will definitely stay again next time we’re in town.
We enjoyed staying at this property. It worked great for us and our two boys. We enjoyed the location and the little town being from Denver. We would recommend this place.
We had a great stay at the Carter house. My husband and I and two other couples came to Gillette for a wedding and decided we didn’t want to stay in a hotel. The CarterHouse caught our eye because it was so unique. Dividing the cost with two other couples made it a very reasonable choice.
Briana was great. The air conditioning wasn’t working properly and she let us know ahead of time even offering further accommodations to make the stay easier. By the time we got there they had rounded up enough window air conditioners that the house was just fine( and it was 90 plus degrees out!). Thank you!
The house is very unique and the antiques are amazing. We also greatly enjoyed the courtyard and the gas fire pit on the balcony. Great place to unwind every night.
The carter house is also only 1 block off historic Main Street Gillette and right across the street from the amazing frontier auto museum. We enjoyed exploring Gillette very much and the the carter house was a great place to do it from.
Thanks so much for your hospitality Briana. 😁

We are Gillette natives; we own Frontier Auto Museum and love preserving history. We have started our vacation rentals based on that love for preserving the past. These properties all have a special story and place in the community, and we wanted to keep it alive. The houses are decorated period correct and all have fun and unique features. We hope you can enjoy these unique homes and also make your way to the museum for a full experience!
Why they chose this property
We are located in the original downtown Gillette filled with lots of character and only a couple blocks away from our historic downtown. You will find locally owned shops, restaurants and attractions all within walking distance.
What makes this property unique
This home was moved into its current location in 1910. It was the home of the local doctor and his family. It has changed many hands over the years and in the early 2000's Nick Carter started remodeling the house to preserve its rich history. He made it what it is today. There is a photobook in the Livingroom that captures his hard work and process of construction. Nick passed away in 2020. Our goal was to preserve what Nick had done and worked with his family to allow the home to be enjoyed by many.
