About this property

Walk to the beach! Luxuriate in an outdoor sauna

Welcome to Maddox Pond, where you and yours will unplug and unwind in all the sunny summertime splendor that coastal Maine has to offer. Our 3-bedroom 2-bath cabin/beach cabin home sits on a lush, private acre overlooking the tidal estuaries of the legendary Biddeford Pool. A 5-minute walk down the picturesque gravel road brings you to Fortune Rocks Beach, one of our state’s most gorgeous and expansive strips of sand, sunshine, and waves.

The house itself is a raised ranch with the feel of a beach cabin set among the trees. Our home features hardwood floors, spacious bedrooms, and a bright dining room with vaulted ceilings. Grill to your heart’s content on our raised deck, or enjoy our newly renovated kitchen with appliances ready for your best summertime meal concoctions.

Families love Maddox Pond for the dozens of adventures and outings that abound: from relaxing and playing on the beach, to exploring the tidal pools, to enjoying walks and birding in the nearby Maine Audubon East Point Sanctuary. Bring your bicycles and cruise down to Pool Lobster Co. for a lobster roll, or head over to explore Timber Island Nature Preserve or any of the stunning vistas of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. Rent a kayak, surfboard, or windsurfer from one of the local outfitters, or sign up for a sunset guided tour.

For those itching to explore Southern Maine, a 10-minute drive will deliver you into downtown Biddeford, a former milltown that is now home to one of Maine’s most burgeoning arts, craft beer, and food scenes. Grab a cone at Sweet Cream Dairy, pick up a six pack at Banded Horn Brewery, check out an exhibit at Engine Arts, sip a signature cocktail at Magnus on the Water, or enjoy a meal at Elda, rated One of America’s Best New Restaurants. In the other direction, 15 minutes south of Maddox Pond, is world-famous Kennebunkport, and 30 minutes to the north will bring you to Portland with its countless eateries and island adventures.

Maddox Pond is a truly unique experience that combines a classic Maine beach getaway with privacy and instant access to the best nature and water recreation that coastal Maine has to offer.

excellent stay!

Lovely, comfortable house for six of us (two couples, two kids 12 and 14) and an easy, shady walk of less than 10 minutes to one of the nicest beaches in Maine. And Wolff Lobster is a quick 4 minute drive away and have great lobsters. Easy check-in, good communication, no troubles at all. We had a great time!

We truly enjoyed our stay and the house met all of our needs and then some. The walk to the beach is not hard and the property is peaceful and well kept. The hosts were quick to respond to our questions and emails. Just wish the rain would have stayed away

What a great week!

Loved our stay in the comfort and tranquility of 34 Maddox Pond Rd! The house definitely had a peaceful treehouse vibe and only a short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in Maine. House was clean, comfy living space, beds very great and updated bathrooms and kitchen served us well. Plus easy access to other areas of interest in Biddeford Poole, Cape Porpoise and Kennebunkport.

Peaceful

This property is amazing . The home fit our family perfectly .The decor and vibe are very naturalistic but clean and classy as well . A lot of thought has been put into the functionality of this home . It's a quick bike ride or walk to the beach down a quiet dirt road .

This beach is perfect

There are so many things right with this house! The expansive, beautiful beach at the end of the street rivals the best. Long, flat, sandy, and clean. The price of the rental is very reasonable. Biddeford/Kennebunkport/Portland all have terrific restaurants and there is so much to do. The house was super clean and very well stocked. The outside space is left “au natural” leaving our first impression as somewhat disappointed. There’s no place but the deck to enjoy outside space and the main living area’s furniture were barely comfortable. A screen door on the front door would be a welcome addition. Family members live in Biddeford so this really was a perfect setting for a ME, CT, MA, CO family reunion.

Enjoyable house within walking distance of the beach.

This was our first VRBO experience. The hosts of this property communicated well, and answered all of my newbie VRBO questions. They sent a text message to check on us at the time of our arrival, to make sure we arrived safely and to confirm that we were satisfied with the condition of the property. We found the home to be clean, comfortable and well maintained. Kitchen had all the necessary kitchen items for our stay. Bedrooms were clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Sheets and towels were nice. Washer and dryer work well. We used the outdoor gas grill one night, and it worked perfectly. It’s about a 7 to 8 minute walk to the beach on a very quiet road. We experienced no negative issues during our stay. We will definitely try to stay at this property again when our travels bring us back to the Biddeford Pool area.

Wonderful house and beach!

We had a wonderful family vacation at Liz and Nick’s home. They were wonderful, responsive hosts. The house was secluded and peaceful, yet very close to a gorgeous beach. They included a beach wagon which was so helpful, and also a wonderful guide with things to do!The house is situated between Biddeford and Kennebunkport which is a great location. We can not wait to go back to this special spot!

Relaxing, comfortable stay, a short walk from the beach

Liz and Nick are great hosts, with a cozy cottage just a few minutes walk from the beach. The property is relatively secluded, the house had all the amenities, and plenty of space for six. It was especially welcome that the house included beach chairs and a beach wagon. We had a blast, and hope to return in the coming years!

Nice stay by the beach, house comfort could be improved

Our family of four had a nice time overall. The house has some pros and some cons. We’ve been to dozens of home rentals by now, and we’ll try to provide thorough feedback. Pros of this house: the location is amazing - a short walk to one of our favorite beaches in Maine. It's also an easy drive into Kennebunkport. The plot of land the house is located on is lovely, and there are nice views from the dining area and deck. The home is fairly well equipped with most things you need in the kitchen and laundry. We especially appreciated that the owners provided a beach wagon and beach chairs, making our trips to the beach much easier. (No beach umbrella). Here are some of the cons: The furniture in the family room was not very comfortable for our family of 4 to hang out - it includes an old couch and two chairs that are not comfortable for lounging around in. We were supposed to have my parents in law with us, and the family is definitely too small for six people to hang out on a rainy day. The TV does not have cable, and you have to connect to stream from your mobile device. The bathrooms are quite old and outdated. The master bedroom bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The owners offer a pillow-top for an additional price, which personally didn’t make us feel like our comfort was their priority. (If you can make our stay more comfortable why not offer to make it so). Also, we weren't aware that we had to bring our own bedsheets until about a week before arriving (a first for us with any vacation rental) - we don't have a king size bed, and had to purchase sheets before coming (we opted not to rent them which was suggested as an option by our hosts). This seems like a small detail, but it would be nice not to have to bring our own sheets from 400 miles away. Overall the house is nice and perfectly located. With some minor upgrades to make it more comfortable, it can become a great rental.

Great experience in Biddeford

This was my family’s first time renting a home for our annual vacation in Maine. Our hosts made everything simple from providing a nice guide to the town and making sure the house was cleaned prior to our arrival. Location is great and house has plenty of space for families…Fortunes rock beach is just a 5 minute walk down the road (it’s a great beach) and the main road leading to downtown biddeford and kennebunk/kennebunkport is right there for easy access. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing location.
