About this property

Cowboy Ranch House Cabin

Taste the 1800s In our western Courthouse Cabin. Cowboy bunk-house style sleeping arrangement with 3 bedrooms with 2 bunk beds in each. Inviting kitchenette and full bath and shower, solar lighting, and a propane heater. Do the planet a favor and stay at our environmentally friendly, off grid solar powered and largely self sustaining ranch.

Ranch Café on site serving hearty homestyle cowboy cooking, by reservation. We can also provide horse rides by appointment.

Cabins do not have regular electric plug ins.

Help gather the eggs or pet the baby goats and watch the herd of horses gallop in from the range. Be aware they may come and beg for watermelon on black licorice! Hang out and read a book or ask for directions to a nearby ghost town or lake. The ranch is located near dozens of neat places (including the Sand Dunes) making it a perfect home base to plan trips out of.

Fun

Had a great time very nice property. The only thing we would have changed is the size of the common area in the courthouse a little small for our group.

Beautiful Property

My family had an amazing stay at the High Drift Inn. It was remote, off the grid, and alluring. Surrounded by beauty and nature, you cannot go wrong. The owner was very helpful with great places to see and visit while we were there. My kids loved petting horses and goats while on the property. The cabin was spacious and had all the amenities that we needed. If you’re looking for a true get away with abundant beauty, then this is your place.

Disconnect to Reconnect

Our family had a wonderful stay at The High Plains Drift Inn. We were greeted immediately when we arrived and received lots of great information about the area. We took advantage of the horseback rides and home cooked dinner, both of which were wonderful. We would have loved to explore more of the property while horseback riding, but the experience was still personable and gave us a chance to meet the staff! The property was a good location for traveling to the Great Sand Dunes and Zapata Falls, which we took advantage of… our family had a blast sand sledding and hiking! The Inn was a great place to relax, unplug, and enjoy the simple things in life. We looked forward our cowboy coffee in the morning and star gazing at night. Thank you, Robertson Family!

the info on vrbo doesn't give it justice

This was a great family experience, with lots of options to rent other equipment like fishing poles for the nearby reservoir, the history drive nearby, horseback riding, dinner and breakfast provided for an extra fee (good homemade and filling food). Stories from RV are great, but so sad to not be able to do stories by the fire because of the windy night. It would have been great to have some of these stories during breakfast or such. Some flexibility was needed on our part for timing of horseback riding which wasn't ideal, but it still worked out. Kids loved help with feeding the animals too!

Awesome Time

We loved our time spent at a real ranch! The Courthouse cabin was perfect for our family of 12s' little getaway. Can't wait to try and go back during a hunting trip!

A family we didn't know we had.

RV and his family were very friendly and hospitable. If we had any questions there was always someone near by to help answer. Camp fire chats were welcoming and there was evening outside games to join in on. A hand drawn map of historical treasures in the area made for an enjoyable drive. We hope to visit again soon. Thank you family Robertson.

Great experience

We had a fantastic time on the ranch. The staff was very kind and really enhanced our experience. It is definitely rustic but still nice. We had them several us breakfast and Dinner and bother were delicious and a lot of food. Very worth it since the property is very remote. We will try to come back again in the future.

I am RV Robertson the head of this gang of Cowboys and desperadoes. I am 73 years old, but mentally I don't think I ever got past 17! I have made my living almost my entire life (except for a time in the military) enjoying people. I have been a fishing and photography guide in the great outdoors and I have raised cattle and trained horses. Throughout my life I have enjoyed being a part of people's vacations and making them feel at home even when away from home.

Over three decades ago I began building the High Plains Drift Inn. My family now share my passion for hospitality and we work together to make sure our guests have a good time and get to feel a little of what it was like in the old west.

You can simply book a cabin with us for a peaceful nights rest on your way through or you can arrange to have full service. Having lived so long I have a story or two for just about everything. If you have the time we can build a fire outside and I can tell you cowboy stories half the night while you roast some marshmallows and listen to my granddaughter play old cowboy songs on the guitar!

When you book please let us know if you are interested in any additional services. We can provide horse riding, skeet shooting, survival classes and our on site Ranch Café serves hearty homestyle cowboy cooking, by reservation.

The entire family are familiar with the area and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
