Great family friendly location

This was our first stay here and we enjoyed it very much. Our boys (5 & 7) took to the playground and sandy beach right away. We could watch them easily from the big picture window or on the front porch. The water is shallow near the beach so we felt safe with the kids swimming and using the boats, which they loved. We couldn’t find the life vests at first. The boat storage shed is a little hidden near the dock where the row boat is. We all took kayaks out on the lake together to explore the lake which was very quiet when we were there. No motor boats. The cabin has beautiful vaulted ceilings in the living/dining area and we loved the view of the lake. It was a bit dark and could use some updating. The big eat in kitchen was great. We cooked while there and found almost everything we needed except for a good chef knife. It’s a great location for exploring more of Door County and we hope to return to do more of that. We never saw the manager but we really didn’t have any needs. Our cabin was open when we got there with a welcome note. We forgot charcoal and my husband had to go driving a ways to find an open store on a late Sunday afternoon. I suggest bringing your own sheets for the room with the bunk beds as the ones that are provided seem institutional like from a hospital. Otherwise there was plenty of cozy extra blankets as the nights got cool. Overall, it was a great experience. Our only complaint is that we didn’t enjoy spending our last morning doing more housekeeping than we expected. There was a long list of requests and we ran out of time before we could finish them all. We were only there for 3 nights and we definitely left the cabin in better shape than we found it. Even so, it’s a great little cabin perfect for a family of 4 or 5 who wants to unplug (no internet) and spend lots of time outdoors. We’d probably rent it again because the boys loved the bunk beds and being close to the playground and beach. Thank you!

Had a great time

The cabin was nothing fancy, but had everything we needed and was clean. The grounds were nicely kept. Also, we liked that there were kayaks, canoe, paddle boat, row boat with life preservers etc. all provided. It was quiet and we enjoyed our view of the sunsets.

We enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Grounds were great and lake was fantastic for swimming and relaxing. My husband enjoyed all of the kayaks, SUP, and water bikes available for use.

Not quite what we expected.

There are no false claims in the property description. They did however leave a few things out. The cottage is in a nice family friendly park like setting. Many nice shade trees and plenty of distance between cabins. When I emailed the manager she promptly responded. The first surprise was that they normally do not supply sheets and towels. When I expressed our disappointment she made a exception. She supplied them but we had to make our own beds when we got there. Towels were supplied but not fresh ones for each day. We do not mind reusing our own towels but there were not enough towel bars to let them dry. A robe hook on the bathroom door would be a simple handy perk. The top bunk had a better mattress than the bottom bunk but the other beds were quit comfy. The kitchen was well furnished but we did no cooking. The microwave took a long time to warm a cup of coffee(at least 2 min). The stove and refrigerator appeared to be clean. Be prepared for no air conditioning, no wi-fi and no TV. There is a DVD player. Maybe we just did not know how to work it but there were no instructions either. The rules pertaining to leaving. You are asked to strip all the beds and return the bedding to the office. Put the bedspreads back on. Clean the bathroom. Sweep and mop the floor. I don't think that people did that seeing our socks will never be white again. The good part was that the price was good and we still had a great girls get away.

Quaint, clean cottage. Sandy beach. Playground for the kids.

Nice clean cottage just a few yards from a sandy beach. Grandkids (10 & 8) had a blast on the playground equipment, the ample lake swimming area, and the rowboats & canoes. First time at Juniper which is part of a cluster of a few small cottages. Would definitely book at this location again.

Our week at East Shorewood Cottages

To the Owners of Juniper Cottage; We did have a good week in DC with beautiful weather!! Our extended family has been coming to Kangaroo Lake for the past 30 years!! We have stayed at Redwood, Evergreen, Cedar, Hickory & Juniper cottages, on & off, for many years. We so love the grounds, play equipment, fire pit and the sandy beach, which is the best beach on Kangaroo Lake!!! We know that Juniper has gone through some great improvements, as the open ceiling, nice kitchen sink & counter top, new floor & the added deck out front. We felt that the cottage was adequate, but do feel improvements are needed in the cottage, as well as in the resort. The TV needs to be upgraded as could not receive any local channels, only QVC & one CNN channel. So, could never get the weather or news on it. The bathroom needs brighter lighting, as is very dark & cave like inside. The living room window needs to be upgraded due to the cloudy haze between the two pains of glass. The pots & pans, especially the frying pans, need to be replaced. The old charcoal grill is in disrepair and should also be upgraded. To us, the major problem at East Shorewood is the lack of Wi-Fi and cell phone service. In this day & age, it is important to have this service available to your guests. Could not use I-pads or I-phones, except (at end of pier), so very difficult to communicate with others while in Door County, etc. Overall, we still love East Shorewood Cottages, but feel these issues need to be addressed. Sincerely, Concerned Guests P.S. Want to thank Trudy & Glen for all the work they do, especially keeping the grounds & beach area in great shape, for all of us to enjoy!!
