Great place to relax with friends

I booked the house for a getaway for some longtime friends. It was perfect for us to kick back and relax at the house, but really close to some great towns and activities. We spent a lot of time hiking and exploring the regions, and enjoyed the great restaurants in Woodstock. We all had a great time and highly recommend staying here!

A mostly good experience, but a mixed bag

The good: Great location, interesting architecture, lovely wood flooring, excellent and generally well-equipped kitchen, good water pressure and plenty of hot water, excellent internet connectivity, easy drive into Woodstock. The questionable: Yes, this is an OLD house, and some of the comments refer to this. Visitors need to know some doorways are slightly under 6-feet high (watch the doorway into the master bathroom). Master bedroom door does not stay closed and has no lock. The furniture needs to be updated. The seating is worn and the dining table and chairs are very minimal. While most needed objects were present, some simple things were not. For instance, no napkins or paper towels, no basic spices. The problems: We were unhappy to meet the mouse two times. There were spider webs at ceiling level in many rooms. When the power failed one night (in the neighborhood - not the owner's problem) there were not screens for some bedroom windows to allow cool air in. Window coverings were not dark and could not be used if the window air conditioners were running. Was it an overall positive experience? Yes. Was it a good value? Maybe. Would we stay in this house again? No. At the same time, others may enjoy the house and the experience more than we did.

Wonderful Getaway

This is our second stay at this property. Last year only 2 of us could come due to COVID. We loved it! This year 8 of us. We loved it! So private but so well located. Everything you could want at your finger tips.

Comfortable historic home

My family of 5 adults, a toddler, a baby, and a dog stayed here for a week in September. We especially enjoyed the spacious living rooms, big grass lawn, modern kitchen appliances, and comfortable bedrooms. The desk in the master bedroom and fast WiFi enabled those of us who had to work to do so effectively (note that Verizon does not get service but there is a landline and you can set up WiFi calling), and we were pleased to use the adjacent laundry room as a nursery for our 9 month old. The location is also excellent for local hikes, a dip in the watering hole across the street, and delicious restaurants. Check in was easy and the host was very responsive. We had the unfortunate experience of arriving to discover that the refrigerator was out of commission, and Steve quickly responded to correct the situation. Keep in mind that this is an older home in the country, so you are bound to see signs of a few creatures on the property (e.g., mouse traps had been set inside the house). Overall we had a really nice time in this beautiful home.

Perfect Stay

I can not say enough about this property. Originally we booked this for a family trip to include 2 kids, their spouses and 2 grandkids. However, due to restrictions, only my husband and I could come so the vacation was very different than I anticipated. However, from the minute we entered this house I felt like I was home. The house is just beautiful! Everything anyone could want was there. Given that we did not go to many restaurants due to Covid we used the kitchen more than we generally do when we rent a house and it was everything we could ask for and more. We had a couple questions for Steve who got back to us so quickly that I barely had time to hit the send button on the question. The location was exactly what we wanted. It is 5 minutes from Woodstock but felt so peaceful and secluded. We sat outside in the morning with our coffee to listen to the stream and enjoy the quiet and peace of the area. We had no cell telephone service while at the house but the wi fi worked great and we had a land line so no issues there either. This gave us the break we both needed. We did not use the swimming hole as such but did sit by it and will be back with the kids and grandkids for that experience. I can not recommend this house enough. Thank you Steve for a much needed break, it was the perfect getaway! Lora

Girls' Weekend

I stayed here with my sisters for our annual weekend. We like to have good sitting around space (there are 5 of us) where we can knit and perhaps watch TV and this house had good space for that. It also has a nice updated kitchen. It’s in a good location, easy to find and close to the town of Woodstock which has a lot to offer. Steve went out of his way to return my sister’s bag which he found in the parking area after we left. He offered to ship it to her, but instead they agreed to meet at the highway exit (a 25 minute drive from the house!) to return it to her. There were only a few disappointing, mostly cosmetic, things about the house that prevent a 5-star rating, such as a broken blind in a bedroom and sporadically spotty cell service on some people’s phones (but there is a land line phone for making local and long-distance calls). These would not prevent me from renting again, however.

A Very Special Place

We Stayed in the house for a week During the Woodstock Film Festival. Steve was fantastic! The house has a great vibe and is comfortable and gorgeous we all felt at home staying there. The creek across the street makes it truly one of the prettiest properties I have ever seen. Takes no time to get to town. We had a great time!

Beautiful weekend getaway

The house is amazing. We came up to celebrate a friends birthday and this was the perfect spot. We were cozy inside with a fire all weekend. The kitchen was large and perfect for making meals and dancing. We already started discussing coming back in the summer. HIGHLY recommend.

Beautiful house tucked away in a little valley.

Very nice house with four bedrooms on a small street about 5 minutes from the middle of Woodstock. Lovely setting, large kitchen with fireplace and barbecue outside and your own private swimming home across the street in the creek. Highly recommend this house.

Lovely girls weekend

We had a fantastic time at this house! Very comfortable beds and plenty of space to relax made it perfect for 8 people. It was an easy drive into town (but definitely not walk-able if you're looking for something close) and parking was simple next to the house. The location is beautiful, with a stream across the way and beautiful gardens. The owner was great and easy to work with before we arrived, and we didn't have any issues during our stay. We would absolutely go back and would highly recommend this rental.

Cozy, spacious, and relaxing

We had a great family Christmas at Steve's home. The home is well-appointed, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is huge and great for preparing meals, and the common spaces are really great to socialize and relax in. Unfortunately, the fireplace isn't working at the moment which was a bit of a let down as it was a key part of booking the house, but it certainly didn't affect our wonderful holiday. Definitely recommend this house. We will return in the summer to take advantage of the swimming hole!

Comfortable idyllic home

Great fully equipped kitchen, wonderful fireplace, comfortable beds. The house is a little close to the road but not a lot of traffic. If you bring little kids though you can't leave them in the yard. Otherwise we had a great time and Steve was easy and responsive. We hope to come back in the summer!

Beautiful and relaxing

The house exceeded our expectations. While we were a party of two adults with dogs, the house could easily and comfortably fit a larger group. The short drive to the town of Woodstock provided easy access to entertainment options. The scenic drive to Bethel was worth the drive to the historic site. The property itself was great for exploring, relaxing, enjoying nature, and photography. The house was fully equipped with anything a guest could need and very clean, yet comfortable. Steve was very easy to communicate with. I would definitely recommend this home to any potential renters.

Lovely Private Farm House

We recently stayed for four nights at Steve's lovely, charming farm house, conveniently located just a few minutes from town. It was the perfect place to be close to Woodstock, yet enjoy the solitude of country living. The house has an open floor plan downstairs, and a bright well stocked kitchen. It is about 30 minutes to our favorite Catskill Restaurant, Peekamoose , located in the town Big Indian. My husband and I hope to stay in this wonderful renovated farm house again! Stay at Farm House in (Shady) Bearsville, New York

House met our every need. Large, Light updated modern kitchen which was well stocked with all cooking necessities. Ample room throughout for 8 of us. Large living space on first floor. I used master bedroom and bath on first floor which was beautiful and spacious. My daughters and their families used the three bedrooms and bath on the second level Beautiful hardwood floors throughout. Washer and dryer was a real convenience Gas grill on outdoor patio with table and chairs enable us to spend enjoyable nights eating and relaxing well into the night. Of particular enjoyment was the sound of the water flowing in the creek directly across the street and the entire group enjoyed cooling off in the swimming hole during the extremely hot days last week. Grounds and gardens created a gorgeous backdrop for some wonderful vacation photos. Steve was most helpful in responding to any questions or issues we had. All and all, a great place and location to spend quality time. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful accommodation!

Beautiful, spacious and well maintained property. The location of the property is ideal- we were able to enjoy the idyllic setting of the valley and also be in proximity to Woodstock town center. We will definitely stay again!

35th Birthday getaway with the girls!

We had such a great stay. The house was perfect and very clean. The home is very old but decorated very nicely. All the furniture was comfortable and clean. It was the perfect peaceful getaway for a bunch of Mothers that just needed a pause button and some relaxation. The town of Woodstock is very quaint with great shops and restaurants. We took a drive to the Phoenicia Diner, it was amazing and totally recommend it!! We also ate at Oriole 9 in town and that too, was awesome. Everyone we meet was very pleasant an had a big smile on their face. Steve was very nice and responsive to every question or concern I had. The watering hole/stream was so beautiful and right by the house. At night you could hear the water running and it was super serene. We all really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back :)

Clean and comfy place for a ladies get away!

An outdoor fire pit would be a great addition to this already very accomdating home. No complaints except there were a couple of times the fireplace was acting up & smoke was getting into the house (even with the flu open) but it was windy so that might've been the culprit. Otherwise a fantastic house that I would definitely stay in again!

Well maintained, comfortable, peaceful

Went with a group of friends & house was very nice - the large, spacious kitchen, dining room & den were very comfortable & perfect for hanging out. House was well maintained & well decorated. Very close to Woodstock as promised. Overall great property, would definitely go back.
