About this property

Idyllic Lakeside Victorian Farmhouse

The Lake House is a restored 1880's farmhouse nestled on the western slope of Seneca Lake with approximately 400 ft of lakefront and a beach with a firepit and a dock. In the past it has been a Bed and Breakfast. It is very private, surrounded by woods and garden, on 10 acres of land in the midst of The Seneca Wine Trail as well as the growing brewery, distillery, chocolate and cheese trails. The house contains many family heirlooms. it is roomy and has many areas for guests to gather.

If combined with the cottage (#231064) it makes for a nice haven that is especially amenable for reunions and family gatherings. There are many activities to keep you busy on and off the property. In addition to 2 canoes, two kayaks, and paddle boat, there is a firepit on the beach and on the backside of the house. There is swimming and fishing (w/ license) off the dock.
The large front porch is great for lounging, socializing, eating and otherwise taking in your surroundings.

Felt like Mom's House

This was a lovely country home right out of my childhood with linen table runners, bone china, and comforts of home. It's definitely dated but in a good way - it felt like going home where you expected to find fun memories in every drawer. Lake views are probably only in winter and early spring as the leaves block the view. The journey down to the lake is not for the faint of heart or those with bad knees. The location is excellent for wine tasting, hiking, and just general exploring the Fingerlakes region.

The perfect place for our family get-together!

Without a doubt, the Lake House was the perfect gathering spot for our family to celebrate multiple recent events, including birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations. Everyone, ranging in age from 70 to 3, had a fantastic time and everyone was thoroughly enchanted by the lovely Lake House!

Like staying at a friend's home while they are away.

The Lake House was the perfect setting for our family's milestone celebration. With six bedrooms, it comfortably accommodated all 11 of us. Of all the homes we've rented, this one was the best appointed, featuring a modern, fully equipped kitchen, plenty of games, and ample space for both group activities and quiet conversations. Despite its 1880s Victorian charm, the house had been thoughtfully updated with more than enough outlets to charge all of our electronic devices. The yard was wonderfully spacious allowing members of our group to practice golf swings and disc golf throws. And the porch, frequently praised in other reviews, lived up to the hype—each morning, at least one of us could be found there, coffee in hand, soaking in the serene view.

Large Victorian Home With Lakefront Access

We had a wonderful stay at this property. It was large enough to accomodate our extended family. Everyone had their own bathrooms. The house was beautifully furnished, clean, and had all the necessary ammenities. The wrap-around porch was perfect for morning coffee and while getting to the lake is a bit of a hike (you can either walk or drive), it's worth it. The lake was beautiful and clean and provided many hours of swimming and lake-related sports. Michele was a courteous and responsive host. Oh, and the kitchen was stocked with everything you'd need to cook meals for large groups.

Great family stay

The house was great for our family of 8 adults, an infant + 2 dogs. There was plenty of rooms and configurations for everyone. The location was convenient to all the local wineries, breweries, farms and restaurants. The DSL internet was very challenging to the members of our group that were working on vacation. Also, having a very large cleaning fee while also being asked to strip the beds and take out the trash (which is down the very long driveway) was disappointing.

Tremendous Trip

Our stay at the Farmhouse was delightful. The house is so nicely decorated and pleasant. It fit my family of 14 and three dogs perfectly. The front porch was truly a center point for us. We ate all of our dinner meals on the porch. Also the downstairs bedroom was used as a den for the kids and they loved being there playing or watching TV. As a host, Michele was attentive to our needs beyond expectation.

Great location

We enjoyed our stay and found the location to be beautiful. The house was listed accurately. The owner responded promptly when we reached out with questions. It would’ve been helpful if there was clearer communication regarding paper products. Dishes were put away that were not clean. Cooling on the third floor is a challenge. We loved the size of the house and yard. Our family thoroughly enjoyed it!

Perfect house for our family reunion!

Our big family got together here for my sister’s college graduation, and it was the ideal spot for us to reconnect and celebrate! The rooms were lovely, tidy, and the kitchen was well appointed. We enjoyed afternoons and evenings on the porch, grilling out, and walking down to the lake to swim and enjoy the kayaks. Our children started running in the large meadow/yard the minute we arrived, playing ball and swinging on the hammock. Thank you to Michele for clear and quick communication. We will hopefully be back!

Unique and relaxing spot to explore the finger lakes

This property was perfect for our multi-generational family vacation. Lots of unique spaces inside and out to have quiet time and come together as a big group. Lake access hike is an adventure, but the availability of the canoes and kayaks from the property was super convenient. Great location for exploring the finger lakes. Would stay again and recommend!

Truly unique property

The house is on 5 acres in a secluded area just above the lake. There is a beautiful walk down to the shore as well. The house is incredibly well kept and we spent almost all day sitting on the massive porch on the front of the house. The kitchen was large with a Wolf stove and there were plenty of rooms and bathrooms. My family was so happy and would come again! Our host made everything easy and the location of the house made it easy to get to the wineries, Watkins Glen and fantastic restaurants.

Was very good

I thought we were on the water but were a little bit away. Walk to water was pretty steep, but the house was great. Great lawn for games and big hose. I brought many more kitchen items than needed as everything was there. We were 5 couples, all had great bed rooms and baths.

50 Year College Reunion

6 College roommates plus spouses or SO gathered. We were looking for a place with 6 bedrooms, and many bathrooms. This one caught our eye. We are very glad we made the choice. Everything was perfect for our long weekend! Close to lots of fun things to do. We enjoyed late afternoon snacks on the beautiful front porch. Rooms were perfect! We plan to come back next year!

Wonderful Family Stay

The farmhouse and the separate rental cabin on the property were perfect for our large family of 17 to vacation together. We had 4 family units and had a marvelous time! The main house was delightful, with plenty of space for privacy and for gatherings. We enjoyed the massive front porch and comfy furniture the most as a family gathering spot. We all hiked the Glen, made a day trip to Niagara Falls, enjoyed the lake (yes, it’s a bit of a trek for us older folks but really not bad), sampled wine at some of the many wineries right on the road up the hill, enjoyed big family dinners in the wonderful kitchen, big card games around the dining room table, and slept like babies. We felt very at home, and everyone fully enjoyed their stay.

Friends Reunion

The property looked spectacular online and it was everything and more in person. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils and appliances. There were 11 of us and we were able to cook meals with everything provided. The house was clean and decorated beautifully. We are already talking about another getaway at the Farmhouse in the near future.

Farm House

The grounds/lawn enormous, great for dogs and games. The farm house lay out is good, spacious with very nice bedrooms. Spent a lot of time on large porch. Not too hard to walk across lawn to back corner and then down steps to gorgeous grassy area, beach, dock and water toys. Great waterfront view. However 73 steps and hill going back up can be difficult for some No water view from house. I loved this house and we had a wonderful vacation. Host was responsive and friendly.

Perfect "Girl's Trip" Rental

Plenty of space to gather or for private time alone. Great location to a lot of the wineries and activities. Beds are all wonderful. Bathrooms and hot water supply was fantastic. Well equipped. (Except note that bath towels are not provided.) Access to the house involves steps or small hill that might be difficult for some with large luggage. Trek to the lake is not easy. The yard is large and sloped and the walk to the stairs is long and sloped and then the 76 stairs are a challenge. But, it is worth it. It's a beautiful spot on the lake. (Can't see the lake from the house because of the trees.)

Great location, nice house, a bit of a walk to the lake, and owner a minus

This is a fantastic location. We had a wonderful time visiting nearby wineries and enjoying the outdoors. The house is spacious and nice with a good kitchen and a great big porch but it is an old house and has some of that dusty, old house character that isn't always pleasant. The lakefront is gorgeous but it is a solid 10 minute hike down a very steep slope to get there and that can be a real drag with kids. The owner was unbelievably slow in returning our security deposit and we actually had to reach out months later to get our money back (I think they would have kept it if we hadn't complained). We still had a positive experience overall but dealing with the owner left a bad taste in our mouth.

Perfect Place for Relaxing

Besides providing the relaxing, down-home atmosphere, this is a great home base for exploring the Finger Lakes area. Just a short car ride to Ithaca to visit Cornell University's lovely campus and to Corning to experience the Glass Museum. Our kids and grandkids spent several hours playing in Lake Seneca and on the really big lawn area near the house. The fireflies brought a pretty amazing after-dusk view from the porch. The house was as advertised - what we expected and what we hoped for. The host, Michele, answered all of our questions - even the dumb ones - with patience, honesty, and a great sense of humor. She is a gem. Balance or stamina challenges need to be considered if getting to and from the lake are critical. other than that caution, we have no hesitancy in highly recommending the Lake House.

Nice house, don't expect your full deposit back

The house itself is great. The water is not too close, but hey, that might be okay--it was for us! Besides, we could always use the exercise. We got "most" of our deposit back, but this was after an extensive (two hour) brief from what I think was the cleaning people, but might have been the owner upon check in. We were so paranoid about keeping the house PERFECTLY clean that it became a running joke during the week. Sure enough, seven weeks later, we got the security deposit back, and there we were with 90 dollars missing. The note mentioned it was for excessive trash (note, it was bagged and taken outside) and recycling (which was placed where we were told to put the recycling). In and of itself, this might have been okay. I am not sure how much trash costs to take away, but I can buy that, But the note went on to mention there was mold on the underside of the table cloth. What? Mold? We didn't even use the table outside...how could we possible have had any effect on the mold on the underneath of a tablecloth? Doesn't mold need a certain gestiaion period...maybe more than a week? What could we possibly have done to influence mold growth on an outside tablecloth? Also, there was mention that some of the outdoor furniture was broken, but it could not be proved that it was us. Fair enough--we didn't break any furniture, but the whole note was condescending. We were "granted" a leave from being charged for the furniture...based on what rules or basis I have no idea. Bottom line; we paid a lot of money--4500 dollars--for a week at the house. Part of that is a cleaning deposit. While it is perfectly clear that the owners need to protect their investment, the rule book looks like a whole volume of the U S Code and reads like the Federal Rule of Civil Procedure (lawyers joke)--it takes a lot of the "carefree" out of the vacation when you are worried about anything, even out of your control, happening which might offend the completely SUBJECTIVE views of the cleaning folks/owner. Maybe the owners just need a new cleaning crew. Who knows. Bottom line, it is a good house with plenty of space, a walk to the water...if you just go ahead and accept that you may not get a portion of the 500 dollars back based on third party claims about how you might have acted, you will enjoy it. -Gray and Jasmine P.s., I must mention that the owner was very nice--calling me and reminding me that I owed my full payment...he was very flexable
