Ideal for families, couples or a group of friends, this four season retreat delivers the rustic charm of Upper Michigan, along with the decadent comforts of a luxury cottage.

In the evening, indulge in the beauty of “UP” sunsets from the cottage's wraparound 1000 sq ft deck or from the upper floor loft with floor-to-ceiling windows and forest views.

Walk across the road in the morning to catch a truly stunning sunrise over Lake Superior, while watching fishing boats head out for the day. There is no better place to enjoy your coffee!

Chefs will be pleased with the well-equipped, spacious kitchen, boasting a large island, induction stovetop, complimentary kitchen staples, coffee and tea, dining seating for up to 12, as well as a Weber gas grill, charcoal grill and Traeger smoker.

Enjoy the convenience of a private dock for fishing, kayaking or canoeing, with a public marina nearby for larger boats. The cottage includes access to a canoe and four kayaks.

The traditional sauna offers space for guests to relax, while enjoying the restorative benefits of sauna.

Living areas include a family room with cast iron gas fireplace and television, connected to a sunroom with forest views and comfortable seating for end of day conversations and cocktails.

The cottage offers a main floor master suite, with a full bath and walk-in shower. There is also a half bath conveniently located in the large entryway, adjacent to a mud room with shelving for equipment and gear. There are two bedrooms on the upper floor, with one offering a single queen bed and the other offering two full beds. The upper floor loft area also provides the option of a twin size sleeper chair. The upper floor bedrooms share a full bath with shower/tub combination. The lower floor provides another bedroom with a queen bed, full size sleeper sofa, as well as another half bath with a shower in the sauna. New mattresses, quality linens, towels, bedding and toiletries are the finishing touches to the exceptional bed and bath accommodations.

The lower floor also provides access to a well-appointed fitness area and laundry machines, with an exterior door leading to the outdoor amenities.

Beautiful Retreat

The place is nicer than the listing, and was phenomenally well-stocked with kitchen, bathroom, and even sauna stuff. The host was easy to reach and helpful, and I’d happily stay again.

Mount Bohemia Ski Trip

The property is amazing and the house is beautiful! We were about 5 miles from Mount Bohemia which worked out perfect! Kelly was very responsive with any questions we had and again, the place was beautiful - very cozy and welcoming. You can tell she really took the time to plan out the necessities and provide extras that can be difficult to pack (waters on the nightstands were so thoughtful). We loved the fireplace and thoroughly enjoyed the sauna. We would recommend this place without a doubt!

Summer Fun

First off, thanks to a host that has definitely gone the extra mile to ensure that every detail of making your trip memorable is covered. If your a family looking to hang at the beach and swim in arguably the best sand beach on Lake Superior than retreat back to this well appointed home this is the place. From the kitchen, deck, outdoor fire area, sauna and an endless supply of space to accommodate our entire family without feeling cramped this home has it all. Stunning location and cabin!

This is truly a special place. We celebrated our parents 50th wedding anniversary with kids and grandkids and couldn’t have picked a better place. The cabin itself was beautiful - clean, well-appointed and welcoming. But the location takes the cake with so many options for enjoying nature and days on the water just outside your door. Thanks to Kelly for being a great host and creating this slice of paradise. Amazing!

Last entire family trip

We had an amazing time at this property! I have been coming up to the Keweenaw for over 30 years now, either hunting ,fishing, snowmobiling or camping. I introduced my wife to the area when we first met and have been coming back ever since. We continued to make the trek right after our two sons where born and our appreciation for the area was passed down to them. This became even more apparent last week when my oldest son proposed to his girlfriend on Bete Grise beach. " she said yes " We have stayed at many other rental properties across the country and this by far was the best!! If you have read any of the many 5 star reviews I can not add anything to what has already been said. This is the cleanest, best stocked, with every attention to detail place ever. I may retire up here someday, if I had to build a place it would be just like this. Kelly did an exceptional job during the entire process including getting me some good tips on local fishing spots. We will with out a doubt be back!

Great family vacation at this beautiful property!

We loved our stay in this beautiful home! There were so many thoughtful touches in this rental. It was well stocked with spices and condiments, as well as coffee and tea. The coffee station in the loft was so nice to have as well. The beds were super comfortable too. Kelly did not overlook any amenity. Kayaking on the lagoon at sunset was absolutely beautiful.

Perfect place for us

This place was a gem. We were on a trip with family friends to mountain bike the area. The added bonus of the kayaks and canoes was awesome. The house was perfect when we arrived. Kelly also had all of the little touches and supplies that made the trip perfect. I would highly recommend and I know we will consider staying there again when we go to the area.

Three couples found this to be one of the nicest vrbo's we have stayed in. Short walk to the beach. Canoe, kayaks, and paddle boards with paddles and life jackets for paddling into the channel going either to lake Superior or lac LaBelle. Kelly was a wonderful and attentive host. Her place was supplied with everything one would need. Impeccably clean.

Bete Grise Couples Trip

We had an amazing time at this property. It was a unanimous comment amongst our group that this home was the cleanest and most well-stocked place we have ever stayed at. We enjoyed grilling together, playing games in the four seasons room and telling stories by the fire. 10/10 would recommend any friend or family group book their vacation to the upper peninsula here.

A unique & wonderfull experience!

We are a group of senior citizens and have stayed at many VRBO's and this one has been the best so far. The location is great especially if you like being near water related activities. The house had every amenity you could think of and more. For example after staying in homes where the cookware was just cheap and worn out we were very happy to be able to use top label non-stick pans that really worked. The owner was very responsive to all our needs and questions.

Perfect Up North Beauty

We wanted a home we could really relax and unplug and this was perfect and serene. The kitchen was well equipped to make all our meals. The view on the water was so peaceful. It was the perfect home base for our Up North adventure. We will be back!

Absolutely the best!

Kelly's house at Bete Gris has absolutely the best accommodations out of all places we have stayed at across the country. It is in a beautiful secluded location that allows for true rest and relaxation. At the same time there are many things to do at the lake and surrounding historical areas. We had fun fishing off the dock and at Lake Superior with Hooked Up Charters. Visited lighthouses, shoreline, and copper mines. Didn't do as much swimming because of overcast conditions as originally planned, but still had fun at Bete Gris beach. There are many more things that can be said about the fantastic area, however, I would like to highlight the property in this review. While we were very happy with nearly all properties we've rented on VRBO in the past, the level of thought put into organizing this house is next to none. The house is beautiful and spotless clean, the internal design and decorations are outstanding and capture the Keweenaw essence, it has everything stocked, the quality and quantity of appliances and utensils is outstanding, and everything is placed exactly where it should go for convenient use. The sauna is fantastic, and outdoor areas are spacious and well arranged. Finally, Kelly is an amazing host - she was very responsive to all my questions and had great local suggestions. This is really a gem!

Fantastic property and location

The location and attention to detail within the property was spectacular. The backyard with its water access and fire pit was amazing while Bete Frise is only a short walk away. Property is beautiful inside, super clean and the owner has thought of everything to make it a truly wonderful stay!

Summer Vacation on the Keweenaw Peninsula

AWESOME! The house worked out great for our family of 9. The host did an amazing job of furnishing the house with all of the necessities (and more). We were able to keep our boat right at the house on the majestic lagoon of Lac La Bell. The house is located in a beautiful spot where we could mountain bike, boat, fish, swim and explore the whole Keweenaw Peninsula. From watching the sunrise on the beach, to seeing the sun set from the lake Superior, we packed each day into an adventure of fun memories. We can't wait to return to this wonderful house. (PS. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent.)

UP adventure

Our first trip to the UP was a blast. Kelly was an awesome host. The home is well stocked for things we didn’t bring but needed like Benadryl cream for bug bites. Great location, clean and comfortable and if you know me - I’m picky about where I stay. We hit the atv trails, fished and enjoyed the beach. We are already planning a trip back.

Simply the best.

Amazing location, beautiful, well cared for, spotless, cozy more than comfortable home. Kitchen is extraordinarily well stocked, with all the extras you might need. Kayaking was pure bliss, beds, extremely comfortable. Wildlife galore. Hands down, Best VRBO we’ve stayed in. Kelly easy to communicate with, very thoughtful welcome touches and unexpected delicious treats. If you come in bug season, bug head nets make any outside activity much more enjoyable. Great Ski Getaway

Great property close to Mount Bohemia. Very well-appointed. Communication with the Host Kelly was a breeze and she was very accommodating (especially with updates on snow conditions). Sauna was a great touch. Overall, a great stay with a great kitchen and living room layout for the four of us to relax in after skiing. Highly recommend!

A former Calumet native with a lifelong love of the area, I returned to the Keweenaw regularly to visit family. I worked here remotely throughout 2020 and have now decided to live here full-time. I am grateful broadband access enables me to live and work from the shores of Lake Superior. I know the area well and am happy to share this special area of the country with others.

The cottage is centrally located on the incredible Keweenaw Peninsula, where you’ll enjoy wondrous beauty and countless activities.

Summer activities include world class mountain biking, swimming, agate picking, kayaking and hiking.

Explore local history, including Fort Wilkins in nearby Copper Harbor, mine history and tours, lighthouse tours and beautiful architecture in Calumet.

A driving tour of the peninsula takes you around the coastline with many interesting stops to enjoy local people, art, food and nature.

Or stay in Bete Grise to enjoy all that it offers: a pristine sandy beach, excellent hiking, berry picking, nature, clear starry nights (and northern lights, if you're lucky) and family beach days with gear provided, including wagon, beach chairs, towels, umbrella and coolers.

Ranked in the top ten for Fall Foliage in the US by Fodor's - the colors are exceptional and peak in late September through mid-October. The cottage is five minutes from Mount Bohemia, which offers extreme skiing and adventure for backcountry skiers and boarders.

What makes this property unique

The cottage is located on a private road with lagoon access for quiet fishing, kayak launching and beautiful sunsets. And the short walk across the road to Bete Grise Beach on Lake Superior, made this the perfect location.

I purchased the cottage in early 2020 and completed renovations in spring 2022. Over the two years I spent renovating the cottage, I thought about what would make me feel comfortable while vacationing. I ensured my guests would have everything they might need - from laundry detergent to kitchen utensils, and so much more! No detail escaped my consideration. And, as a native who lives and works in the area, I’m available to lend recommendations and support, as needed during your retreat.
