About this property

The Sugar Pine Chalet

Welcome to the Sugar Pine Chalet, a cozy, recently renovated A-frame cabin nestled in the alpine forest just outside the quaint mountain town of Arnold. Come and enjoy the fresh mountain air, the smell of pine trees, and stunning scenery just a few hours from the busy Bay Area.

The space
The first level boasts an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings. The living room features a comfy seating area, a wood-burning stove, and a TV with streaming access. Two bedrooms and one full bathroom are located on the main level, and the other bedroom and full bathroom is in the loft. The loft also offers a cozy seating area and workstation facing the pine trees seen through the large chalet windows.

The kitchen comes stocked with cooking essentials for your group. Outside, we have a propane grill and additional seating under an umbrella for shade.

Here a just a few of the amenities we offer during your stay to make traveling convenient and fun:

* Very speedy wifi
* A charming wood fireplace
* Modern air conditioning and heating
* Cabin games
* Cozy blankets and throws
* S’more roasting sticks
* Snowshoes
* Beach Towels
* 6 portable outdoor chairs for the lake
* Pack n Play (upon request)

A weekend in the woods is the place to be, regardless of the season.

* Come in the winter for skiing/snowboarding at Bear Valley Ski Resort or sledding and cross-country skiing straight from the cabin. There is nothing cozier than sipping hot chocolate and watching the snow fall through the large chalet windows.
* Summer fun include miles of hiking trails just steps from the cabin, golfing, wine-tasting in Murphys, kayaking and swimming in the nearby alpine lakes.
* Shoulder seasons are highly underrated, in our opinion. The weather is perfectly temperate, making it ideal for hiking, seeing the dogwood trees in bloom as well as experiencing the vibrant fall colors of the Sierra.

Guest access
You'll have access to everything, including .7 acres on our property to explore. You will be:

* 2 mins to the iconic Lube Room Saloon
* 5 mins to Calaveras Big Trees State Park to see larger-than-life Sequoias
* 5 mins to Camp Connell General Store for basic commodities and quirky oddities
* 15 mins to Big Trees market for all your grocery needs
* 15 mins to White Pines Lake to picnic and hike
* 15 mins to the Stanislaus River for fishing and beautiful picnic areas
* 25 Mins to Murphy's, the gold rush era town known for cute restaurants, boutiques, and wine tasting
* 30 Mins to Bear Valley Ski Resort for affordable skiing
* 30 mins to Lake Alpine for kayaking, swimming, and living that lake life

Other things to note
* We offer a garbage service, meaning you can leave your trash in our bear box instead of hauling it out with you.
* Power outages can occur without notice, most commonly in the Summer and Winter months, due to extreme weather. Luckily, we have a backup generator that turns on automatically if the power goes out.

Great Cabin

We had a great time at the cabin with family. It was comfy and tucked away into the trees. Close to Calaveras Big Trees park which was magnificent to see.

Cozy cabin for a great time!

Daniel was responsive and check in and out were easy. We appreciated the driveway plowed as we arrived right after a storm. The cabin is cozy and beautiful views from the living room. We loved being near Arnold and Bear Valley for skiing.

Perfect peaceful Getaway!

This place was ideal for me, my wife, and our dog! We came here for our five-year anniversary and had such a great time. There is great hiking, food, and fun in the area but my favorite thing was to read my book on the deck and bask in the sounds of the trees and birds. We are 100% coming back.

A relaxing week in the woods

We were 2 couples and stayed for a week. The cabin had everything we needed. No AC but we could cool it down at night with all the windows open and the 3 fans that were provided. Its a few degrees cooler than Arnold as it's about 1000 feet higher. Very quiet on the weekdays with few neighbors at home.

PERFECT SNOWY GETAWAY!

Daniel's place was perfect for our family of four (spouse, young adult daughter and teen son) plus our maltipoo pooch. It's located on a cul de sac street so there was no traffic at all driving by. We immediately felt right at home! The house was well decorated, clean, great natural lighting from all the windows, and comfortable. Every room has wall heaters so in the winter it's able to get nice and toasty warm. The driveway is not steep, so easy to drive up. Having a LARGE fenced in area for our dog is a big plus, though for this trip with all the snow, we played well beyond the boundaries of the fence. The house is perfectly located in the middle of everywhere you'd want to go, whether it's further up the mountain to to Lake Alpine/Bear Valley Ski Resort and sledding parks, or down to Big Trees park or Arnold for groceries. We had a few questions here and there, and Daniel responded promptly to all of them. We'll definitely be returning!

Needs Maintenance

Light bulbs were burnt out at the kitchen and dining room table. We ended up replacing 3 bulbs. The dining room fixture is in need of repair. One of the lamps did not work in the lower bedroom. The barbeque did not get hot enough, and we could not cook on it. 3 cooking utensils were dirty in the drawer. The cooktop was greasy and needed to be cleaned. The cover for the garbage disposal was missing. Lighting throughout the cabin was poor and made reading difficult. Light switches in the bedrooms did not turn on lights. There was only one pillowcase when we arrived.

Weekend bliss

This comfy & tastefully decorated property made us feel right at home! Restoration and relaxation were the themes for the weekend — so close to Big Trees State Park, the best Big Apple pie ever, and Murphys downtown. We thoroughly enjoyed time at the cottage — reading, making s’mores & dining on the patio amid gorgeous pines & redwoods. Will look forward to returning again!

We loved our stay!

We loved our stay here. We visited in mid September and the weather was perfect! We spent most of our time on the large deck. The house does have neighbors but the houses are spaced out so nicely, you feel very secluded. It was very quiet and relaxing. The interior of the home was clean and the kitchen was nicely stocked with all we needed to cook meals. There were games and puzzles to play with. The beds were comfortable. The wifi was strong! We are very happy with our visit and can’t wait to come back.

Wonderful Home in the perfect location

My family of 4 adults were lucky enough to book this place in Aug and loved it. The home is filled with perfect cabin touches from the dinnerware to the towels. Very comfortable beds, spotlessly clean and spacious. We really appreciated that the houses in the neighborhood are spaced out really well and it was so quiet and peaceful. We loved everything about it and hope to come back in the winter.

Top-Tier

My family and I spent a week at The Sugar Pine Chalet and could not have asked for more. It was the perfect jumping off point for our daily adventures. After spending the afternoons in the surrounding forests, it was great knowing we would be coming home to the space, and quiet of the property, the deck, and the comforts within. The cabin perfectly complemented my family’s adventure; whether that meant sharing time together, lounging on the deck, exploring the property, building fires in the wood burning stove, or nights spent playing board games. Within a short drive of the cabin we caught beautiful trout, nearly hit a few bears crossing the road, explored the Stanislaus River, enjoyed a few short snowstorms, explored Murphys, saw some of the biggest trees in the world at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, the list goes on. My family’s trip to the Sugar Pine Chalet exceeded all our expectations. It was hard to leave after such an amazing experience.
