House
The house is lovely, It was warm on a regular basis. Probably due to weather, no WiFi or tv for a week. Pool is connected to an another property, no one live there, and yes I’m a chicken, the water was cold. Headed to the other side of the Island 👍

Stunning Views of the Ocean
Gorgeous views of the ocean from most rooms. Comfortable beds, clean (besides a stained couch), and refreshing pool. The kids and I swam most every day of our stay. Enjoyed sitting on the balcony, and definitely used the washer and dryer (so nice to have when staying a week or more). Property manager was very responsive and quickly took care of the few hiccups we encountered. Beautiful house!

Great view would not stay again
Rented for 21 days. I would read reviews by Sherrie, Aygul, and Juslyn before renting. Additional info Rich - property manager, voice mail always full. Richard- owner WEEK ONE - Grill pipe between burners broke. Took Rich over 30 hours to text/call us with response. New grill 4 days after request. Per Rich clean grates with aluminum foil. -propane stove ran out of propane, no grill, friends arriving for eggs and bacon in 15 minutes. -No ice maker, freezer was 3/4 full of frozen food, very little room to make ice cubes, store ice, purchase our food for 3 weeks. -food waste stored in freezer per manual at home. -light bulb at the base of steps burned out, stairway up very dark -informed property manager that screen door in master shower is torn across bottom. -Asked about pool service. No bleach in dispenser for several days. WEEK TWO -Stairway light bulbs above garage door and main door upper level now burned out, no lights on any of 29 steps. No bulbs replaced for 4 days. NOTE: husband fell up steps, told by Rich that there was plenty of other lights, to count steps, to use hand rail (no hand rail from garage steps to main entry 3 odd angled steps) -consistent questions and concerns regarding pool maintenance ADDITIONAL COMMENTS -No cooler Only 9 glasses for up to 8 people, told to wash glasses. -No Wine glasses - 7 doors and only one had a functional screen - Tin foil in the holes where the rats must have come in. Much more limited, please consider what you want if renting.

Stunning views and great place to stay
Eight of us stayed on the property for 6 days. The property has stunning views from every level. The stairs may get tiring if staying for long periods and not used to them, but weren't an issue for us. Richard was very helpful ahead of our stay and Rich, the property host, was very responsive during our stay.

Beautiful but Not Typical
We stayed at this home a few years ago and were stunned at the quiet serenity. A home on a cliff 100 feet above the ocean. Waves crashing on a tiny beach at a river mouth below. The cacophony of thousands of frogs chirping through the night. 180 degree views of the pacific. A nice lap pool out front to cool off and chill out on warmer days. On a piece of land with no other homes in sight. The feeling of being adjacent to a rainforest. This is not a mainlander’s idea of a typical Hawaii tourist destination. But if you are looking for peace and quiet in a climate the likes of which you can not experience on the mainland, this is it. All that said, on this trip we arrived to find that the new owner was building a separate unit right next to the pool. This was a let down because we had experienced the property without it and it made the location feel less serene. The property felt more crowded and completely a different style than the main house. Plus it was mid construction so there was always someone walking around working which eliminated that feeling of being there all by yourself. Had we known this was happening we would have rented elsewhere. Last but not least, the pool had an algae bloom prior to our arrival and we were only informed the day we got there. It was pea soup green and totally unusable which was a bummer. Regular pool maintenance is important. I suppose the new unit will allow for larger families and groups to stay which may be a plus for future renters.

One-of-a-kind Rental
If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind rental with a touch of adventure and you can overlook some inconveniences, Cliff House is for you! We found Cliff House to be a very private house with an awe-inspiring view. It’s set on a steep cliff overlooking the ocean, a lush tropical forest, a solitary black rock beach, and pounding waves. The house is 45 years old but built very solid. It’s uniquely designed to drop down the cliff so you enter on top and have several diagonal stairways to navigate to the bottom floor. Between the stairways, unusual angles inside, the fact that the lanais hang over a cliff, and the nearest large town is 35 minutes away, this rental may not be suitable for everyone. All this being said, we LOVED it! The house comes equipped with almost everything you’d need for your stay. However, if you're looking for a pampered, modern, luxury house, you may want to keep looking. I'd describe Cliff House as rustic, eclectic, and lovingly worn. When we stayed we felt the house could use some TLC. For example, we couldn't use the pool because of a serious algae bloom which caused it to look/smell like a swamp. Although disappointing, I wasn't completely surprised because other reviews had mentioned problems. Instead of using the pool, we took a trip to Hapuna Beach (highly recommend!). Second, there are two showers in the house and the second one smelled badly of mildew. We solved this issue by buying Clorox wipes. I felt the house needed a deep cleaning and did have some issues with dampness (it’s in a rainforest). Regarding the kitchen, you may not find everything you want or everything in perfect working order, but you can easily make dinner for four. We found the beds to be comfy and all the rooms had beautiful views. Another remarkable part of our stay was the discovery of the path to a black rock beach just to the side of the house. Although the overgrown path could be treacherous if you’re not careful, for the fit and adventurous it’s an amazing pathway through the rainforest to a beautiful black rock beach that's pounded by the Pacific. During our stay, the manager and owner were accessible, very nice, and laid back. It’s not a minute-by-minute, on-site service, but if you’re in need one of them is sure to help you out. At the end of our stay, we were all sad to go and felt lucky to have found such a special home.

Once-in-a-lifetime-view, otherwise very disappointing
We arrived Thursday evening, and the pool was dirty. The guest book says the pool is cleaned every Thursday. When we asked the host’s representative if the pool could be cleaned, he said they recently had a storm and didn’t know why the pool guy didn’t clean it. Then he said we could clean it ourselves. Um, News Flash: We’re on vacation and paying a lot to rent this home. Needless to say, the pool remained unusable during our stay. There was little to no silverware. When we made the representative aware of this, he said, “Yes, the last family must have gone on a picnic and not brought it back.” He indicated he was resistant to making a long drive just to get us some silverware. A total of only one dish towel, one hand towel and one washcloth was provided for a house with three bathrooms and in our case, four occupants. The representative said there are paper towels; however, only one roll was provided, that being in the one-dish-towel kitchen. There were only a few plastic trash bags available, which we ran out of and had to use paper bags that easily soaked through from trash. I don’t handwash dishes at home. Why in the world would I want to do that on vacation? Nonetheless, there was no dishwasher soap here. Representative’s response: “Yes, it seems I’m always having to restock that.” He then suggested we use the Dawn dish soap. a sponge and some elbow grease. I had to send my husband 45 minutes each way to get what is always provided in even the cheapest of home rentals – which this is not. Bottom line: This place had a great view, but in our opinion, it DEFINITELY was not ready to rent and the host responsiveness via a representative was unsatisfactory. It’s not what we expected when you finally were able to come to Hawaii for rest, relaxation and family fun.

Beautiful cliff house
Easy check-in. Richard, the owner, gave us some great tips on things to see and do in the area. Rich, the property caretaker, was very friendly and helpful also. There are three bedrooms - the master bedroom is amazing - view of the ocean is spectacular and the property is very quiet (no close neighbors). There is a pool with a small house (the ‘pool house’) next to the property that also comes with the rental. The pool house is undergoing renovation so you cannot stay in there but the pool is beautiful and overlooks the ocean. Property is very clean, I saw no bugs, and is very relaxing. Highly recommend!

Our new go-to rental
I cannot say enough good things about this property and the management. The process to check in and out was extremely easy, the house was spotless and breathtakingly beautiful. You really can't beat the view or location! Rich (the property manager) gave us tons of suggestions on things to do and made sure we were accommodated with everything we would need for our stay. Hands down smoothest rental I've ever booked, and we are already planning to come back memorial weekend next year!

Gorgeous scenery
Fabulous house on cliffs overlooking the sea! Loved this place. Some complained the living area gets hot but we visited in Oct and it was doable with fans. Appreciate the intent of feeling one with nature, it works! Enjoyed listening to the night music ( waves, frogs and maybe birds?) on decks. House could use a little updating- better lighting in master bathroom sink area and some fixtures showing their wear. But the beauty of the house far supercedes these issues. The tub in master and view were spectacular! Hilo about 35 min drive for most restaurants. Some small convenience stores 5-10 min drive. Mauna Kea stargazing special! Best on darker nights- not full moon. Would definitely stay at this house again!

Not what we expected
There is no private pool on the property as it was listed when we booked the house. As it appeared the owner has one but it’s up the hill to other house. And the other house his property and that was his major argument.. on the third day of our stay we were discovering rats dropping all over the kitchen. No AC on the first floor in the common area. The house located not in the touristy area, you will have to drive mostly 1,5-2 hours one way to get to major places

FALSE ADVERTISING, DATED PICS
We rented the home based off the picture and amenities listed; and they are over stated and extremely dated. We were only able to get a check in of 4pm, no sooner; but we had to sit there and wait for over 35 min to be able to check in. Once we got into the house, it was extremely unbearably hot. The ceiling fans barely worked and only worked on low function, the only room that had AC was the master. The house is extremely dated and superficially cleaned; the floors and countertops were still surface dirty. So it’s like the cleaners that were there from supposedly 10am-4pm only swept or vacuumed the floors, it was all still super dirty. The sheets were clean but there were barely any air in the rooms; stagnant hot. There were also two large holes downstairs in the kitchen and living room that allowed rats to enter the home and eat our breads the first night. There were also bugs and centipedes throughout our stay. The owners literally do BARE MINIMAL, to make it “rentable” and it is totally false advertising because the view is mostly nice only from the master since the trees and plants are overgrown and covers most of the view of the beach from the bottom level of the house. The water pressure was horrible throughout the house; extremely good in the shower and extremely poor in the kitchen where it matters. Because the house was soooooo unbearably hot, we would cook our meals in the morning and eat all our meals in the master since the master was the only cool room in the entire home. But don’t worry, the AC in the master is also extremely dated; made horrible loud noises every single time it turn on and off. In the other rooms throughout the night it was extremely hot and cold, the beds are old and uncomfortable. It was a horrible sleep for all 3 nights. The only saving grace was the pool for my 7 year old grandchild but we couldn’t locate a chlorine floater so we are not even sure if there will be side effects from the pool after our stay. The refrigerator also doesn’t really work and froze most of our items in the fridge. The stairs are narrow and winded so it was horrible to walk up and down, etc. they also had some sort of waterfall thing under the stairs on the lowest level that leaked out all of the little nook and it had numerous dead bugs and stuff in there. It was EXTREMELY bad stay, we WARN you, do not WASTE your money. Needless to say, we were READY to go home and left early on our final day. DATED, DIRTY, HOT and FALSE ADVERT. BAD

A MUST STAY AT!!
A gorgeous home with the most breathtaking views!!!! Brian was so helpful and knowledgeable on the property and Hawaii history. The beds were very comfortable and the pool was awesome! The house does not have central air which is fine - but it gets HOT with the sun beating in through all the beautiful windows. I’d suggest some sort of roll down window coverings for the main level - the house gets pretty hot and having the option of blocking some of the big windows would be nice. The master bedroom stays cool (has air conditioning)! The other room with portable a/c stays pretty warm. The 3rd bedroom has no ac. Over all - we will definitely be coming back!! The views, smells, and sounds on this property are PRICELESS!!

Views to die for!
This house is incredible! Very unusual but beautiful decor, and an incredible view from every room. We had never stayed on this side of the Island before, and loved all the lush vegetation and different kinds of birds. The house is quiet, with few other homes nearby, but close to a store/cafe that had good food. It's also close to a golf course and small town. Every room in the house was nice, and the Master bedroom is fantastic, with a comfortable bed, huge shower, walk-in closet, and an amazing view of the ocean. The only thing I would warn people about that I don't remember being mentioned on the website, is that the house has multiple levels, with stairs to each level. We liked it, as we felt we were getting exercise going from room to room, but anyone physically handicapped might have a problem. The pool is a nice size, and the water a perfect temperature. We used it every day as the weather was perfect, even in mid-May. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we pretty much stayed there the whole time, except for getting food for dinner. Will definitely be back!

Finding your spirit at Ocean Soul
This was our 16th trip to the Big Island, and we have stayed in some remarkable homes during that time. Nothing is like Ocean Soul. The location is stunning, nestled on a cliff a couple of hundred feet above the water overlooking not only expansive ocean views but the mouth of one of the classic Big Island north shore gulches. It is exceptionally private. The grounds are lush (but not buggy) with birds and geckos, and sometimes you hear the local wild pig. The house architecture is unique, and on its own worth experiencing. The drives to the property either from Hilo or Waimea are breathtaking, showcasing the varied climatic zones the Big Island is known for. Even though we will soon be residents of the Big Island, we will definitely be coming back again to have our spirits refreshed at Ocean Soul.

Great size, plenty of room to spread out. The master bedroom is a masterpiece, curved windows around the entire room that offers the best view! A wonderful cove right underneath the property offers crashing waves all day and night...so soothing! Good location, with small local market close by. Almost midway between Hilo and Waimea. Look forward to a return visit.
