About this property

La Terraza Suite on the Waterfront!! Sandy, Swimming Beach & Spectacular View

Our villa is located on the beautiful, sandy, swimming beach of Los Ayala which is approximately 1 km. long, just perfect for a jog or relaxing sunset walk.

The Terraza suite encompasses the entire top floor of the home and is appointed with beautifully furnished with hand carved furniture, original works of art, hand painted dishes and bathroom fixtures (even the toilets!).

It has a fabulous terrace over-looking the ocean, two hammock chairs, a large hand-woven hammock, lounge chairs, BBQ and two dining areas.

A massage therapist is available at our guests' request for a private in-suite massage at a very reasonable rate.

Our special little town of Los Ayala which is located in Riviera Nayarit (or also known as the Mexican Riviera) caters mainly to Mexican tourists but is rapidly being discovered by folks further afield.

There are many palapa style restaurants on the beach, nearby groceries stories and a collective taxi service which will take you to the nearby towns of Rincon de Guayabitos or La Penita. From there, it is easy to catch a bus to Guadalajara, Tepic, Puerto Vallerta or other small towns nearby such as San Francisco or Sayulita which are surfing towns.

On the beach, enjoy purchasing fresh fish, prawns, muffins or other delights including pineapples filled with fresh fruit. One can never go hungry on Los Ayala beach!

There are many things to do here such as fishing, hiking, boating, tennis, kayaking, biking, visiting interesting sights such as the petrogylphs, visits to the various hot springs, the weekly outdoor market or the boat tour through mangrove swamps to view a multitude of wildlife including crocodiles and many varieties of birds in historic San Blas.

We have many return visitors including those who wish to celebrate a special event: a wedding, an anniversary or birthday! If your have such an event, we will make it special for you!

We are proud sponsors of Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue (JBAR). Pet lovers most welcome! Small, well-socialized, quiet pets considered with prior permission. Pets must be leased while on the property and taken off the property to do their 'business'. There is a $50.00 fee.

Smoking is allowed on our outside patios.

The home also a two bedroom/2 bathroom suite, and two studio suities available, all with full kitchens, bathrooms, private entrances and terraces. More information is available upon request.

Summer rates apply from June 1st until October 31st and offer a 30% discount.

Beautiful Sea views.

We had an amazing 5 night stay at Casa Contenda. The elevated ocean front patio was stunning. Thoroughly enjoyed meeting our hosts Lin y Jim. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the property was the best in Los Ayalas.

Pure bliss at Casa Contenta!

My boyfriend and I just returned from a weeklong stay at Casa Contenta and couldn't be happier with our decision to stay here! The photos don't do justice to the beauty of the property and the Terrace Suite! Meticulously landscaped and cared for, with the beach just steps away. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation and hope to return!

Getaway from it all!

We first heard about Casa Contenta through a friend of the family and went there in 2008 to celebrate my 30th birthday. We kept in touch with Lin & Jim over the next several years, and in 2014, met family and friends to spend a week there. In a nutshell, these are the some of the great things that make Lin & Jim’s getaway in paradise worth coming back to: Surroundings • Authentic Mexican vacation experience – a refreshing departure from cookie-cutter resorts that are catered to mainstream American tastes. • Breath-taking tropical surrounds on a protected cove with one of the best swimming beaches we’ve ever been to. • A quiet, down-to-earth villa, where “party” is defined as evening drinks on the beach and night swimming with family and friends. Those who want a more social scene can easily get a cheap taxi to the adjoining towns for a little nightlife. Accommodations • If you’re into architecture, home remodeling, and the like, you’ll drool over all the artful details of Lin & Jim’s lovely Casa (including its beautiful recent addition with a slightly more modern take and a HUGE patio for BBQing and parties). They are happy to give you a tour. • Rooms are in traditional Mexican style, comfortable, and have the kitchen basics so you can stock up at the market and cook at home. The beds are traditional as well, which for me means very firm – don’t expect pillow top. • Beautiful tropical plants surround the yard, which faces directly to the beach, so you can feel like you’re hanging on the beach in the privacy of your own yard. Lin’s work doing animal rescue is another aspect of Casa Contenta that makes it feel like it’s a Home Away from Home. As dog lovers, it’s so nice to have some 4-legged friends on site to mingle with. During our recent trip, I loved getting to know sweet little Uki. We look forward to our next trip, where we hope to meet friends and family again to stay in the new suite.

It was very relaxing and comfortable!

The bungalow "Casa Contenta" has the signature of the owner's good taste for the Mexican Talavera ornaments. It has a big bedroom for two people with beautiful wood furniture and windows. There is a huge terrace where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the beach. Plus, being at the end of the beach makes it more secluded. The kitchen has all the appliances needed to cook a feast. A nice garden to enjoy a sunny day under tall coconut palm trees. It rained in the afternoons which just made it cozy and different from the sunny mornings. Maricela and Samuel went far and beyond to accomodate my 82 year old mother as the third guest in our bedroom. The opportunity to have my small dog, Ashley, with us was the final wonderful touch. I honestly believe Los Ayala is the best beach in Bahia de Banderas. This property is the perfect match to have it all!

Loved our Vacation

“Loved our vacation” My husband and I loved Casa Contenta. It was a beautiful place right on the beach. As we slept we could hear the waves of the ocean. It was so relaxing and being right on the beach was wonderful. Jim and Lin were excellent hosts. They showed us what restaurants were good to eat in and often we would go as a group to eat. I think the word we used the most was "fun". We had so much fun at Casa Contenta meeting other guests, going out for lunch just down the beach at Juan's restaurant, having all the vendors coming to us on the beach selling their stuff, buying custard donuts from the man carrying the tray on his head, walking the beach and enjoying people with big smiles on their faces, sitting back and enjoying the 60's band on the beach while the rain poured down from hurricane Sandra, the mariachi band at the local restaurant. We have so many memories of the sun and surf. The decor of Casa Contenta was amazing and we loved looking at all the decor and tiles and how the suites were put together. The best part of our trip was going to the dog shelter. We brought back one dog for a person who rescued a dog off the beach, paid for all her vet bills and brought her back to health. The dog wasn't ready to come to Victoria when the owner left so we brought her back with us. It was a joyful reunion in the airport. We also fostered a little terrier rescue when we were at Casa Contenta and of course we turned out to be failed foster parents and we kept her and she is the best little puppy and we love her. We are so glad we went to Casa Contenta and have already planned our next visit.

Welcoming, luxurious hospitality, and the sound of the surf.

Casa Contenta is a funky place to stay ( lots of color and art!) that couldn't give you a better or closer Mexican beach and village experience. Lin and Jim are exceptional hosts and their place is beautiful, comfortable and spotless. I would go back in a flash.

We have just returned from on 4th visit to Casa Contenta. Once again, Jim and Lin we the most fabulous hosts. The bed in our suite was absolutely wonderful. Very traditional and exceptionally clean. I have nothing negative to say about this wonderful getaway and hosts.

Garbage everywhere !! No garage cans on beach!

Great place to visit. It is a shame to find so much garbage on the streets and beach. Especially monday morning. I do not fault the visitors so much as the local government and greedy hotels and bungalows. Where are the garbage cans for people to put there garbage? Why are the locals ok with garbage and graffiti? Culture? I will not go again and I recommend you go to Puert Vallarta, cleaner much cleaner

Casa Contenta Paradise

I just spent a dreamy few days at Casa Contenta, and I can't say enough good things about it! The setting itself is perfect, situated in the village of Los Ayala and cradled by a beautiful beach that is great for swimming or just relaxing in the sun. The Casa itself is delightfully decorated, capturing the color and flair of Mexico with a touch of whimsy thrown in for a wonderland like feeling. Jim and Linda live on site and interact with guests daily, making sure that everything is just right to ensure an enjoyable stay. The service and hospitality were above and beyond anything I've ever experienced, and I've never seen anything quite like Casa Contenta. Highly recommended for a perfect getaway.

The Best Exotic Casa Contenta

We just returned from a wonderful three week stay at Casa Contenta. This place is unlike most accomodations in that each of the four suites is very unique, the owners Lin and Jim live on sight and interact daily with their guests and the guests themselves become friends very quickly. Lin makes sure that guests know where to go to buy the best fruit and vegetables, meat and grocery items and actually drove us there initially, pointing out places of interest along the way. She will arrange transportation for large and small groups to go out for dinner, markets or any day trip you may want to try. She will set up cooking lessons, massages, Spanish lessons, yoga if those are of interest to you. There are shelves of books to borrow and read. No need to bring your own as there is something for everyone. If you just want to do your own thing that is ok too. We found ourselves enjoying the company of our fellow guests and the great recommendations for dinner out. Lin made sure we were all comfortable and felt welcome. The location is unbeatable. Step off the front lawn and you are on a wide, beautiful sandy beach. Keep going and you are swimming in clear, clean water with gentle swells to play in. There are multiple beach toys including high quality kayaks. Walk down the beach and buy a freshly made donut or delicious barbecued fish on a stick and then back to Casa Contenta to recline on one of many padded beach chairs. Paradise. It is no wonder that so many guests leave Casa Contenta with a reservation booked for the following year!

Comfort and styl

We just concluded our second stay at Casa Contenta and enjoyed it as much as our first visit a year ago. Los Ayala is a small town at the Southern end of Jaltemba Bay, about 1.5 hours drive North of Puerto Vallarta (PV). While the towns North of PV up through Sayulita appear to mostly cater to North American visitors, the towns North from there seem to be destinations more for Mexicans, with Rincon de Guayabitos as the center. The drive from Sayulita onwards feels like going back in time figuratively and literally - somewhere near Lo de Marcos, the time zone changes from Central to Mountain. We rented a car in PV for both our visits and welcomed the convenience of having our own transport. Los Ayala is smaller and quieter than Guayabitos, although on weekends and holidays the beach will get busy with mostly locals. Casa Contenta is on the quiet Southern end of the beach and stands out with its unique architecture and colorful design. Owners Lin and Jim have invested a lot of energy and creativity into building a truly unique and romantic environment, combining colonial designs and furniture with lots of artful details. We stayed in the upstairs Vista suite, which has two bed and bathrooms, a large living area and kitchen with a covered outdoor dining area, a big patio on the side, as well as a huge rooftop patio, which offers great views of the surroundings and the ocean. Lin and Jim made us feel very welcome and helped with everything from arranging massages, suggesting places for shopping and sightseeing, as well as local restaurants and options for live music. Staying in Los Ayala may require a few adjustments and then it will be a great experience: there are few paved roads (work in progress), few restaurants (the ones on the beach close at dusk), and few places to get necessities. On the other hand one can buy freshly caught fish (lobster on weekends) on the beach in the morning along with fresh bread and vegetables for delicious meals at home, if one is so inclined. Otherwise, Guayabitos and La Penita offer quantity and variety for shopping and dining, and even Sayulita is close enough for a dinner outing. We have on both our visits thoroughly enjoyed Lin's and Jim's hospitality, the comfort of Casa Contenta, a glimpse of Mexico away from the main destinations, and we have always felt safe, whether in town, on the beach, or in the car.

Just Relax

Absolutely top notch hideaway. The rooms are finished Mexican style but with all the conveniences you need for a get-a-way or a longer sojourn. There is no TV but there is WiFi. The appliances are modern. The rooms are lovely and a lot of thought has gone into decorating them. Of course it is right on the best swimming beach in Mexico. Los Ayala is a small town, about 400 permanent inhabitants I have heard. However on weekends and Mexican holidays there are many Mexicans that come to the breach. It is a joy to see the families and kiddies enjoying their beach. But it is Lin and Jim that make Casa Contenta truly shine. They are wonderful hosts with a great pride in their home. You will love this place. PS Must love dogs.

Another Day in Paradise

This was the exact getaway we were looking for. We had been to Jim and Lin's before and while we were sitting in Snowy Edmonton, this lovely place immediately came to mind. We only had 8 days what better place for a quick retreat! We did absolutely nothing, it was peaceful, quiet and most importantly relaxing. The market on Thursday was yet again fabulous, the food at the local restaurants was amazing! I cannot say enough about the property or the hosts they we attentive yet gave you your privacy. i would recommend this to anyone who love off the beaten track but not at all isolating.

Relaxing and beautiful!

My husband and I recently visited for four relaxing days and now can't wait to go back again for a longer stay! Our room was clean, comfortable, roomy, and full of art and color. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep at night and beckoned us for cooling swims during the day. No shortage of good food within easy walking distance. Our hosts Lin and Jim were wonderful, and full of information about the area. We're so grateful to our friends who have also stayed here and told us we had to visit too!!!

A treasure by the sea

Stunning artwork everywhere, flower-filled gardens and rich Mexican colors. Everything about our stay at Casa Contenta was perfect. The suites are immaculate. Each one is uniquely and beautifully decorated, has a fully equipped kitchen and private outdoor space. There is a lovely, communal grassy space at the edge of the charming beach for reading in a lounge chair or swaying in the hammock. Jim kindly oriented us on our second day by driving us around Los Ayala, Guyabitos and La Pineta. We became friends with the other guests, had lovely cocktail parties and explored other villages and sights together. We also had plenty of quiet time. Lin invited us to attend yoga classes with her. She and Jim warmly included us on trips to the markets, visits to Sayulita and San Pancho and lunches and dinners in surrounding restaurants. One evening I was tired and decided to stay in, and Lin thoughtfully brought me a container of tortilla soup. Clearly Lin and Jim are respected and appreciated throughout the region for their commitment to the health and rescue of hurt and stray animals. Casa Contenta is a treasure in every way: visually stunning, clean and safe with a warm and friendly spirit.

Paraiso!

Casa Contenta is an oasis at a quiet end of a perfect beach. We could hear the waves from our charming Casita Suite, a spacious, cozy and breezy retreat after a day on a lounge chair on the sand. You can't beat early morning walks to the fresh fish vendors on the beach, bobbing in the waves, kayaking and reading, reading reading. We were reluctant to leave and to say good bye to Lin and Jim our anfitriones extraordinario. Besides being good company, Lin and Jim went beyond our expectations to ensure our comfort and full enjoyment of Casa Contenta and the surrounding area. D & J Kelowna

Perfect Combination

After several trips to Mexico, we have finally found the perfect combination of weather, beach, traditional Mexican décor and hosts at Casa Contenta. Whether your stay is short or long term, hosts Lin and Jim offer you the perfect combination of fun in the sun, night life and quiet times. As well, there is always a “man’s best friend” available to walk with you on the beach if you are missing your dog back at home. We are definitely going back to Casa Contenta. M & R March 2013.

Wonderful

Casa Contenta is even more lovely than its photos show. The beach is good for swiming most days. Los Ayala is small but you can find most supplies that you need except for fresh meat. That can be found a walk or bus away in Guayabitos. There are not many restaurants in Los Ayala but lots in Guayabitos and La Penita. Lin and Jim are wonderful hosts. They will show you a lot of what there is to be seen in the area. They do have dogs but you would hardly know they are there unless you want to. We agree with all the rave reviews already posted and we have booked for two months next year. This is the best place we have ever stayed and we have done a fair amount of traveling over the years.

They are easy going, happy to help in any way, and are incredibly attentive to every need. Casa Contenta, in Los Ayala is located on a perfect, gentle, swimming beach. Paradise!

This is our fifth trip to Los Ayala, and as always, it is paradise! We love staying at Casa Contenta and have had the opportunity to stay in all the suites - each one is beautiful and fully equipped for a comfortable stay. On this trip, we were fortunate to be able to stay in the Vista, a lovely suite tastefully decorated with beautiful art, flowing linen curtains blowing from the ocean breeze through large shuttered windows, traditional Mexican furniture, tiled counters in the kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and ample sitting spots on lovely terraces with panaromic views of the ocean and surrounding area. Lin and Jim are fantastic hosts and will go above and beyond to provide guests with a first-rate holiday. There are many things to do in Jaltemba Bay, including Thursday Market in La Penita, strolls along the beach, kayaking, swimming, shopping in Rincon de Guayabitos, sunbathing ... the list goes on! You will be able to experience an authentic Mexico in Los Ayala, as it is a quiet little fishing village untouched by tourism and hotel chains! Un maravilloso vacaciones!

Jim, a retired safety officer and Lin, a retired college professor ready to welcome you to Casa Contenta!

Why they chose this property

Searching all over Mexico for the 'perfect' location to own a home on a beautiful sandy, swimming beach, with a lush tropical garden, we discovered our dream. Los Ayala is a small fishing/vacation paradise nestled admist lush hills with one kilometer of sandy beach that caters mainly to Mexican tourists. We fell in love! With Puerto Vallarta only an hour away, it is easy for family, friends and guests to reach us, yet well out of the hussle and hype of the larger tourist centres. A perfect place to immerse oneself into Mexican culture and language.

What makes this property unique

Jim is an active birder, loving to hike and collect new sightings of the many variety of birds in the area.

Both of us love the ocean and the waters here are described by my Mexican friends as 'delicious'! Kayaking, snorkelling, fishing, swimming, whale watching are some of the activities we enjoy. A variety of excellent restaurants are nearby and in the tourist season offer a variety of musical venues. We love to dance to live music!

There are many opportunities to be involved in a meaningful way through volunteer work with the community. For example, we started Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue and have so far sterilized over 3500 animals in less than 6 years in a number of free spay and neuter clinics. Free food, medicine, medical support, adoptions and education is offered through donations from the community and friends afar. Volunteering in the schools, community or with my clinics while on vacation can be a very insightful way learn about a new culture!

Also, I am an artist. The rich colours, and interesting sights offer many inspirations!

Jim and I also love to travel. Los Ayala is within easy distance of a number of small villages such as Sayulita, San Francisco, and El Monteon as well as some of the larger centres such as San Blas, Tepic, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. There are petroglyphs, natural hot springs, trips to view flora and fauna, and historic sites all within a days' travel.
