Between the two spaces, there's seated dining space for a total of 22: a large family style dining table that seats 10 along with another dining table for 6 in the breakfast area of the kitchen and 6 stools / high top chairs at the big kitchen island.

In the lower level family/ bunk room, you'll find comfortable furniture with a Smart TV with DVD player, as well as a full bathroom and two double-bed bunks (each of the four bunks sleeps two with a weight limit of 500 pounds each)... and there's a private sunroom with a recliner, dry bar and 2nd refrigerator with adjoining laundry room between the back porch and the master bedroom.

For the more laid back or a rainy day, there's also a selection of books, games and movies, and other amenities include new HVAC, free Direct TV, unlimited ViaSat high speed Wi-fi, new washer & dryer,2 full sized refrigerators, K-cup brewer and a 12-cup coffee maker, 2 wall pantry units, iron, ironing board, hair dryers, and a first aid kit.

Outside there's so much to do and discover including a deck off the great room with seating at two umbrella-covered tables for 14 and a grilling station (hard-lined propane to the main tank servicing the property; and 2 patios, each with its own fire table. The front one is covered and has casual furniture seating and a porch swing, and the other in the rear has seating for ten plus 30' of wall seating around a 6-person hot tub with blue tooth stereo compatibility that is completely drained, sanitized and re-filled between each rental.

Maybe your group loves outdoor recreation? Check out the game room under the carport including ping pong, 2 cornhole sets, Kan Jam, frisbees, and 3 bourbon barrel tabletops to hang out as well as 2 kayaks on a trailer for your use free of charge. Bring a volleyball or badminton net and ball - great open meadow on level ground for group play. There's also a covered picnic pavilion with smoker grill and picnic table next to a huge firepit with 10 Adirondack chairs and 15' wall seating - firewood available with advance purchase arrangements (subject to availability and TVA not having posted a ban on burning), or pay once there using the QR code.

Exploring the acreage is always an option, with about 3 cleared acres and 7 more heavily wooded for fun hiking - surrounded by hundreds more adjoining acres from the neighbors for complete privacy during your stay. It's also a great walk to the trailer parking area (a mile away) or marina (2 miles away) as the road follows the shoreline of Norris Lake all the way to either one. You're securely locked in on the property with a gate to which you'll have the code.

With great parking for 12 or more vehicles and not another neighbor in sight, the owners also make available an RV hook-up with 30 and 50 amp electric, water and a waste dump station (available for a separate nightly fee and reservation agreement) ... Doc’s Lake Escape is a one-of-a-kind experience and isn't available anywhere else close to Norris Lake (although check out its new nearby sister property on 40 acres, Captain Brown's Lake Escape #3001530)

Exceptional Lakeside Retreat at Doc’s Lake Escape—A Must-Stay for Families and Friends

Our experience at Doc’s Lake Escape was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the cabin’s stunning renovation. It perfectly blends modern luxury with the charm of a secluded getaway, making it the ideal retreat for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The property itself is expansive, with plenty of land for the kids to run around and play. Whether they were exploring the outdoors or gathering around the fire pit for s’mores, they were entertained and happy the entire time. The adults, meanwhile, took full advantage of the hot tub, which offered a perfect way to unwind under the stars. Location-wise, Doc’s Lake Escape is unbeatable. We were only a few minutes from the lake, making it incredibly convenient to enjoy a day out on the water. We rented a pontoon boat, and to our delight, Tom, the wonderful owner, generously offered us his tube. The joy and excitement of tubing across the lake were unforgettable, and the marina’s proximity (just under 5 minutes away) made everything seamless. Tom’s hospitality truly set this experience apart. He was always available, super communicative, and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. His attention to detail and willingness to share his local knowledge made us feel right at home. If you’re searching for a place that offers a perfect blend of comfort, adventure, and tranquility, look no further than Doc’s Lake Escape. We're counting down the days until we can return!

Tucked Away Private Escape

We had a fantastic stay at Doc's Lake Escape. The house is very clean and spacious giving everyone in our group ample privacy. The grounds are perfect for keeping yourselves entertained from multiple fit pit areas to a comfortable hot tub and plenty of outdoor seating. We are a group of off roaders and came with 2 trucks, 2 trailers. Our single place trailer had no issues getting to the cabin. The lakeside neighborhood you pass thru is very tight and mostly single lane traffic. Our 3 place trailer had to be offloaded a mile away and parked in the trailer lot, not a problem at all but if you are coming with bigger things in tow, make sure you inquire about where to park. For offroaders- Tackett access is thru Pudgies and is not for the faint of heart. Do some reasearch to be sure it's in your level of comfort. This house is a great spot and we cant recommnend it enough!

Hidden Gem in the Cumberland Gap Region

This beautiful cabin is tucked away in the landscape that surrounds it. It is picturesque, peaceful, secluded, and quiet, except for the sounds of nature. The property is very spacious and the cabin cozy. There are many outdoor areas for socializing and enjoying the mountain views. There is an abundance of wildlife. We enjoyed playing cornhole and ping pong, sitting by the fire pit making smores, and just relaxing. There are 3 fire pits, plenty of outdoor seating, and a jacuzzi that was ready for use. There are also a gas grill and smoker on the property for use. The cabin was very nice on the inside with many amenities and stocked with all the supplies we needed. Wifi worked great. There are TVs with plenty of channels in every bedroom and in the living rooms upstairs and downstairs. The separate ice maker was very nice. My recommendation is to definitely try and get groceries (we went to LaFollette, TN for groceries which was about a 20 min. drive) before arriving at the cabin. The road leading up to the cabin is winding, narrow, and turns into a gravel/dirt road with cars having to yield to one another by pulling off to the side when able. You also have to be careful of deer and other wildlife that may be crossing the road at nighttime. The owners provided a book with a ton of recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area, which is super nice and helpful. We greatly enjoyed our stay and are so glad we chose it.

Wonderful Christmas Reunion!!

This house is great! They had it decorated for Christmas and I just cried when I walked in! We stayed with our family and had a Christmas party with relatives in the area. It easily accommodated everybody. Plenty of seating, beds, bathrooms, 2 refrigerators and large ice maker. Furnished beautifully!! It’s a wonderful place to stay and everybody enjoyed it! We had awful weather but there was enough room inside to keep busy.

Private, peaceful and convenient

The trees and hills that surround the house and outdoor spaces make the property feel as much like a mountain chalet as it does a lake house. Our group of 14 ranged from 1yr to 40+. We made good use of the firepit and fire tables on the property, played cornhole and ping-pong, used both the grill and smoker for our dinners, and explored the wilderness all around us. And by the way, there's a lake nearby! We rented a boat from Flat Hollow Marina, which is just a short drive from the house. The areas of the lake surrounding FHM are less busy than those near Deerfield and Shanghai, so the peaceful retreat continued on the water. There's pretty much something for everyone at Doc's Lake Escape. I can't wait to come back.

About the host

Hosted by Tom Sturm, owner and rental agent

Host profile image
Andy and Emmy Weiss have RV'd through nearly all 50 states with their kids Sarah and Jack, but when they stayed at a park next to Norris Lake in the fall of 2020, they were hooked. Enter real estate broker and long time Norris lover Tom Sturm, his wife Judy and daughter Shannon ... partner us up on a pretty slice of heaven in their sweet spot near Flat Hollow Marina ... and you've got two families making their dreams come true.

Andy's a veteran real estate manager and highly regarded coach with Coldwell Banker Realty, serial investor and entreprenuer; Emmy's a long time nutritionist for sports teams and corporate businesses; Sarah's off to OSU to study sports med and physical therapy enjoying long time passion as a medaled gymnast; and Jack's into everything fun, but especially band, baseball with a traveling league, and anything to do with the great outdoors. This active family is on the road every chance they get, and equally loves running at full speed as well as relaxing around a campfire together with friends and family.

Tom and Judy have been in real estate for nearly 50 years between them - investing, rehabbing, renting and selling - but their favorite outlet is at Norris Lake where they have a vacation home / 2nd home real estate business catering to retirees, investors and lake lovers of all flavors.

Judy's a gifted designer and executes the planning phases and finds the perfect furnishings and decor, while Tom loves to direct the contractors and dream up the fun stuff outside the houses and on the water. Shannon's finishing her senior year at Wheaton College as a marketing and communications major with a minor in psych, combining a good head for business with a big heart for people, especially boyfriend Austin who deserves a mention as they've been together for nearly 6 years now, and he's invested a lot of love and work into all the projects here at Norris as well.

Why they chose this property

Doc's Lake Escape took our breath away the first time we pulled around the bend, and still makes our hearts skip a beat every time we open the gate and look around.

We own a couple other lakefront houses, and Tom manages a bunch more ... but this place creates a one-of-a-kind experience that allows any group or family to spread out and enjoy the best of Norris Lake along with all the best of hanging out on a private retreat with your favorite people in a paradise packed with fun and natural beauty.

Can't see a neighbor anywhere, gate can lock behind you, and the place is yours to enjoy and explore, discovering creeks and woods as well as relaxing by the custom built firepit, soaking in the 6-person hot tub, hanging out under the covered pavilion, on the decks and patios or out by Doc's Hideaway, the converted double carport that will boast an outdoor bar, games, and more.

With kayaks to take down to the marina and a covered slip (D32) for your watercraft or any you want to rent ... all the best Norris Lake has to offer is just minutes away. Parks, museums, trails, shopping, golfing, horseback riding, ATV trailheads and so much more to do all around the four counties surrounding the lake ... or make the drive to Knoxville (1.25 hours), Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg (2.25 hours) and many more attractions in the surrounding towns and cities.

What makes this property unique

Over the years, our family has rented many homes in many areas of Norris Lake, but we intentionally return time and again to the Flat Hollow area. We found that the friendliness of the property owners, renters and the Marina owners, Chris and Jamie Rademacher, make us feel right at home. We prefer the sounds of nature and laughter day and night instead of roaring speed boats and loud stereos.

We also enjoy being close to Flat Hollow Marina (and other marinas) for the convenience of a full service restaurant, gas station, bait shop and marine store - relaxing to drive down to pick up call-ahead carry out or eat out when the ladies need a break and the guys aren't grilling, or just walking down for ice cream or seasonal entertainment and karaoke on the weekends.

But our absolute favorite things are... sitting on the deck every morning with a cup of coffee, listening to loons and crows call as the sun rises over the hilltop... hanging out with friends on the deck, patios or hot tub after a great day on the lake and a delicious dinner from the grill. Later you'll find yourself hanging out by the fire, or stargazing from the upper deck and being awestruck as shooting stars streak against the velvet black, Tennessee sky.

Let us know how we can make your special event, big celebration, or family or group vacation extra special - we and our staff are happy to accommodate any way we can. Come on down and stay a while - and tell us your favorite thing to experience at Doc's Lake Escape!
