Beautiful views

This is a beautiful home with fabulous views. The sea life (turtles, whales, seals and dolphins) provided natural entertainment. Our family had a wonderful time and would like to return.

It’s good when you know.

Isn’t it the best feeling when you open the door to your rental and you know you picked the right place? I promise it was like a song. Warm breeze (but not too warm) blowing through the house, and the pacific lapping on the sea wall just outside sent the right vibe for a first impression. Then the views. And the turtles, seals and whales just added to the experience. The beach and neighborhood were great for a walk, and the island itself offered endless experiences, made better by suggestions from Tiva and David our local hosts. Don’t agonize over this being the right choice of homes- it is. 6 people would work comfortably. The bedrooms are nice, the indoor and outdooor showers are just more icing on the cake. And if you cook, I mean really cook, the kitchen and grill are all you need. I would come back here over and over. It was spectacular.

Sea Life Paradise

I can’t recommend this home enough. The photos are lovely and it’s even better in person! My family and I went to the Big Island to make memories and “Ke Ola Kai” delivered! The location is an easy drive from the airport. Stepping inside it’s hard to choose where to explore first. The house is beautiful and exactly as described- RIGHT on the beach. It was a personal dream come true to see Honu every day, but swimming with sea turtles was next level amazing (of course you don’t touch them, just admire)! The kitchen is well appointed. Even foodies would be impressed with the six burner stove and three dishwashers. Puako Beach is a small tight knit community and I always felt welcome. My husband doesn’t enjoy crowds. Staying here afforded us the option to choose when we wanted to be among groups. That’s something even the nicest resorts can’t promise. The owner, Susan, was quick to answer any questions and provided great tips to enjoy the island. It was easy to get to famous Hapuna beach, shopping centers, and restaurants. We struck out and visited Hilo along with the Volcano National Park...but none of it compared to the paradise and seclusion that Ke Ola Kai offered. Thank you to Susan for opening your home to us and we sincerely hope to visit again...soon!! Aloha and Mahalo!!

Gorgeous house in amazing spot

My family and I had an incredible stay at this property! The owner truly went above and beyond, ensuring our comfort and satisfaction throughout our stay. Their friendly and communicative approach made the experience even more enjoyable. The recently modernized house was tastefully done, and the sunset view from the property was simply spectacular, creating unforgettable moments. The well-equipped kitchen was a chef's dream, making meal preparation a breeze. I highly recommend this property for a memorable and relaxing getaway!

Amazing property with world class views!

Absolutely stunning property! The owners obviously put a lot of time and thought renovating this beach front home with beautiful, high-end finishes. The views from the lanai are phenomenal. Spent many evenings gazing out at the bay watching the turtles sun on the rocks and the whales in the bay. Snorkeling conditions are as good as anywhere on the island. The sunset views are beautiful, of course. Location is convenient to resorts in either direction with world-class restaurants, grocery stores and shops. Make sure to book dinner reservations as the good restaurants fill up ahead of time! Susan was great and made us feel welcome, and our stay comfortable. Made some great memories, just wish we could have stayed longer! The kids are already asking when we can go back. Mahalo for allowing use to use your beautiful home!

Amazing Property

This property is amazing and we will DEFINITELY be back! Ke Ola Kai offers as much relaxation or activity you desire. The ocean views from this house are breathtaking. We planned our evening dinners around the best sunset view on the island from the lanai. The house is equipped with everything you need in the kitchen and it is a short drive to a market with great local produce and fish. Every day, we enjoyed diving, kayaking, snorkeling and swimming with direct ocean access from the lanai. Our teens had so much fun identifying the vibrant sea life we were able to experience after every swim. The variety of colorful fish was amazing and the sea turtles in the ocean and sunning themselves on the rocks were pretty awesome too! The interior of the house has full ocean views from the wall of windows that open to enjoy indoor/ outdoor living. I loved the sliders in each of the bedroom, falling asleep to the sound of the waves is the best. The huge soaking tub and outdoor showers were also a nice way to relax after a long day at the beach.

Location can’t be beat!

Beautiful oceanfront home with an absolutely stunning view. This location cannot be beat! Sunset views from the deck and a small sand beach. The home is so beautiful and extremely well stocked, a chef’s dream. The owner was very responsive and we were even contacted by her local property manager upon our arrival. We could not have asked for a more perfect visit to Hawaii.

Fabulous

Amazing views! This place is breathtaking. It took us a good 15 minutes to stop staring at the ocean views before we realized how amazing the actual house was. It was a short drive to the most beautiful beaches, but most of the time we just went in the water right in front of the house. Snorkeling was great and sooo many sea turtles! The owner, Susan suggested we bring water shoes and we were glad we did. It made it much easier to go in and out of the ocean on the lava rock. Can’t say enough good things about this property. We will definitely be back.

About the host

As a family, we have lived all over the United States and when traveling we enjoy renting a home or condo with a kitchen. We own a few properties in places we love and I manage the rentals. I love to cook and enjoy the local surroundings so I have tried to create that comfortable, convenient, special place in each of my homes for rent. We have visited the Big Island with our 2 boys since 2007 and about a year later, purchased a condo in the Waikoloa Beach Resort, while dreaming of purchasing a home in Puako.

Why they chose this property

Eventually this will be a retirement home, but for now I am happy to share this amazing location with travelers. We have been dreaming of a home in Puako since our first visit to the Big Island and now this special beachfront property is ours. The beautiful Japanese tiled roof was brought over on a ship in the 1970s. When remodeling, I wanted to keep that gorgeous roof and tie in some Japanese and Polynesian styles to the home. We opened up the Oceanside wall to accommodate as much glass as possible to enjoy the incredible views.

What makes this property unique

Private yard with a sea wall between you and the beach. Puako is a special community. When you are out talking to locals and you tell them where you are staying, they will say, “Ahhh, Puako, how lovely”.
