Wonderful experience

I stayed on this boat with my daughter and her boyfriend for their college spring break. We had an excellent time! The restaurants at Perry's were nice. We got cocktails in to go cups and spent the evenings in the cockpit with blankets. Absolutely serene! The shuttle from Perry's was very nice. Renting the QuickRide bikes was perfect, there were several at Perry's and around Old Town. Capt Albert is a wonderful host and was very responsive and helpful.

Time with Friends

There were 4 adults. We initially booked bc the location was in the Key West marina and was perfect- location location location. The boat moved to Perry Marina on Stock Island. It was beautiful. The boat was well maintained and clean. We enjoyed hanging out in the marina and chatting with new friends. Amber and Mike met us upon arrival and were amazing! Super nice and went above and beyond for us to make sure we had what we needed. Even though we had to drive into Key West, our stay was great and lots of memories were made! Thank you so much for the hospitality! We will be back!!!

Great adventure!

This is not for everyone but worked great for us. You need to think of it as camping on the water. You are on a vintage sailboat. Albert and Amber were excellent hosts! We went out on the water for two nights with captain Zappa and Megan, and all went well! Again, you are on a boat, and camping. You have to add ice to the coolers but it is readily available at the Perry marina. Great food and drink at the hotel. Good showers, laundry, etc. drink at the greatt!

The vacation you never knew you needed!

If you have selected this stay do not show up with expectations, instead you will want to be surprised by each step in this journey. What an epic adventure that will have every option to fill your needs and work around the weather. Captain Zappatista will assure you know the value only the locals can truly provide and the First Mate Jared will bring the laughs and be Jonny on the spot as needed.I didn't plan a thing for this trip and found everything we needed and so much more we didn't know was needed. The owner's Albert and Rhonda are the most amazing of hosts and provide such a unique experience since 1992. Keep it up and can't wait to see you all again soon!

I loved this property. We were never hassled by the manager and always felt safe. No intrusive neighbors and everyone around us was friendly. The boat was clean and a walk away from the best Fantasy Fest venues in Key West. I highly recommend it daily a place to stay while at Key West.

excellent time on Key West sailboat

We stayed on the St Vidus Dance, which is a lovely boat with all amenities. We had a wonderful overnight sail with Captain Zappa and Doug. Our host, Captain Albert, went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we had everything we needed/wanted. He even arranged/paid for water taxis to and from the boat, which unfortunately are quite costly. Thank you Captain Albert. You're the best! Overall a wonderful, tranquil, beautiful experience.

Everything was great. Host and crew were very attentive. Boat was clean and very well maintained. Cold A/C, in case you’re worried about being hot. Private marina showers were also very clean and appear recently updated. Definitely a different, and unique way for an escape to Key West. Thanks for everything!

Best time ever in Key West after 40 years of visiting Key West

I am a vistor of the Keys for more than 40 years and staying with KW Sailing Adventure is the best. You get the best of everthing Key West and it´s surrounding seas have to offer. Old Town Key West, the Hemingway house, the Mel Fisher museum, the Aquarium, the arquitecture, the ambiance, Historical bars and eateries, great shopping and Maollory Docks with it´s sunset show. And this is just the beginning. You get to enjoy the real reason we come to the Keys, the ocean. You get to enjoy the true wonder of the keys on and below the sea, sleep under the stars, eat FRESH seafood with pampering second to none. I will not stay anywhere else.

BEST of the Best

Key West at its Best!!!!!! We stayed on the Obsession! My two boys and by Fiancee! We were in the perfect spot of all of Key West. A short walk to Duvall St and Mallory Square!! The air conditionion on the boat when needed was perfect! Sleeping under the stars and rocking to sleep by the ocean waves was a dream!! The half day sail with Albert and his crew was unforgetable as he let my young boys steer the huge sailing ship as I snapped pictures was unforgettable. Go ahead and stay at a hotel and be an boring or go for an unforgettable adventure and call Albert and book and unforgettable adventure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A unique experience

My wife and I have stayed in different B&B's in Key West for many years. This time we decided to try something different and stayed on the Wild Thing, a 44ft sailboat docked right near the Waterfront Brewery. We're not sailors so we weren't quite sure what to expect. The boat is very nice inside but being a sailboat, it's tight in some spots. It has two bedrooms, two small bathrooms and a nice center cabin with a kitchenette and seating area. You also get a key card to access private showers and laundry right next to the brew pub. Getting on and off the boat, climbing up and down the ladder and maneuvering around inside takes a certain degree of agility, so keep that in mind. The location can't be beat - its very close to all the action but at night was very quiet. There's a very laid back vibe on the dock and we met several other people staying on nearby boats. Due to the weather we weren't able to go on a sail, but Capt Albert offered a voucher for a future sail. All in all, it was a fun and different way to experience Key West! We'll definitely give it another try in the future.

Hot nights ! No refund

We spend 2 nights the the 08/29 and the 08/30 on the boat called "the wild thing". When we arrived, we found a boat which was quite grimy : smelly, and the dish was not that shiny.. In the middle of the first night, the air condionning fell down and did not work at all the second night. As Captain assistants were unable to fix it, they proposed us to sleep on the other boat "Obession" ; this boat was very dirty and stinked because the loo has not been cleant ! So we refused. The assistants gently drove and bought electric vans that we had to set up at 22 pm. After these hot nights, as we met Captain Albert the last day, he told us he would give us back a refund. 2 and a half months later I did have my money back though Captain promised to give me.

Couldn’t be better!

While we loved being right in the heart and vibe of Key West, the added cool thing was the kindness and camaraderie of our marina neighbors. Won’t get that at a house or hotel! Our day sail/ sunset cruise on “Wildthing” with Capt. Chase and mate Cassie was like sailing with friends! We laughed and told stories all day! They were very competent and easygoing, and our relationship with owner Albert and an employee, Troy, made us feel welcome and taken care of. To fill out our land experience we booked Hidden Key West Walking Tours with Richard. His family has owned a home in KW since 1928, and if anybody has the inside scoop it’s Richard!! I can’t imagine there being a better in-depth tour! Eaton Bike Rental was the way to go to spend a morning looking around and then an afternoon at the beach. The bikes are well maintained and reliable. They even dropped the bikes off and picked them up, and made it so easy! At the beach you can rent an umbrella and chairs, and the snack bar has everything you could want for lunch, so don’t bother with bringing anything but a towel! Enjoy your sunrise and coffee on the bow of the boat, and your Bloody Mary at Breakfast Club, Too. Best ever Srimp BM! In our opinion, best breakfast menu, too. Everywhere we went we encountered just nice, happy people. If you’re looking for a unique and memorable experience, book with Capt. Albert Tropea on “Wildthing”, or one of his other two sailboats!

Great Location

Overall, staying on the Wild Thing was a great experience. We had good communication before our trip with the owners. They answered all of our many questions quickly. Our check in was ok, although online it says 2pm and the boat wasn't ready until 4pm. They told us beforehand it would take longer, but had we known that I wouldn't have booked an early flight. The first mate, Asa (sp?) was awesome - she toured us around the boat and showed up how to use the toilet. One thing to note: since it's obviously a boat, the toilet is a bit of a pain and you don't have hot water to shower unless the engine has been on. The marina has clean and very close showers and bathrooms though, but we didn't know this until we were there. Our stay was 5 nights, 6 days. the boat isn't super comfortable for lounging around, but who does that in Key West? Getting on and off is a little tricky, but we felt comfortable by day 3 with doing this. There are ropes and cords along the deck, so you always have to watch your step and I guarantee you will hit your head at some point. The overnight stay at Boca Grande key was the highlight and absolutely wonderful. Our captain, Joey and first mate Darrin were great - they made us comfortable and we had fun staying up late solving the worlds problems with them. Once we sailed back to port though it was discovered we no longer had air conditioning. This is a BIG deal to me and we tried to get it going, but had to call the owner. No answer, so we left a message. We waited for a call back, but finally left a note for Darrin to see if he could help us when he returned. End of story is, we never got a call back from the owner, Darrin tried but couldn't get the A/C working and we slept in very hot and humid conditions and left with numerous bites from bugs because all the windows were open. Not a great way to end the trip. But overall, it was a lovely and adventurous stay and I would recommend it.

Unique Experience

If you're the adventurous type and believe that life is all about unique experiences, then add this place to your list. This location is in the heart of the action of a lively marina during the day, but also quiet and peaceful each night. Tons of walkable attractions, restaurants, and bars, so no need to rent a car. We had a 4 hour sail that was also one of the highlights of our trip. Albert is an awesome host, and a pleasure to communicate with and talk to in person if you have the chance. That said, staying on a boat is cozy, so if you are not the type of person who would camp out, then you might not like boat life either. But, if you love marinas, boats, and unique experiences, you'll have a great time here!

We did not want to leave….simply loved it

Our family of 4 (2 kids 11 and 16) stayed on Albert’s boat for 3 nights and went out for 2 sailing trips. We really loved it, location could not be better and it was nice to get away from the crowds in the streets. The boat is not the newest, but spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Communications with Albert was superb - he was an excellent host. If you are looking for something different to stay in Key West - this is the place for you!

Key West Marina stay

We had a great experience, despite the unusually chilly weather, staying on Captain Albert’s boat. Conveniently located, we walked everywhere. Bathroom/ shower situation is fine, as the locked restrooms for the marina are very close and clean. It was an interesting experience staying on the boat and enjoyed being rocked to sleep at night! Captain Albert and Amber were very accommodating (got us a heater and extra blanket!) and helpful with restaurant suggestions. Overall a great time!

A Great Way to Stay in Key West

My wife, teenage daughters, and I had a wonderful few days on Wild Thing. Highlights include motoring out to the reef to snorkel (many thanks to Chase and Andrea), being right in the middle of the action in the harbor, and a short walk to Duval, Mallory Square, etc. Staying on a boat is a fun way to shake it up a little (especially when the wind picks up); if you’re considering it, do it. We loved it.

About the host

Hosted by Albert Tropea Jr.

Host profile image
Captain Albert Tropea, Jr
Once worked with Proctor and Gamble families and the Helene Curtis Company as personal sailing captain. While working in Key Largo with a maintenance company taking care of all hospitality related needs from the homes, to designing landscapes, maintaining yachts, Captain Albert realized that the missing component in vacations in the Florida Keys was the sailing style of adventure vacations. Captain Albert decided to bring the experiences he had with the very wealthy to the hard working families who longed for the sailing experience with their spouses, friends or families. Captain Albert has sailed all over the world from being a Everglades then Bahamas Guide, to sailing the Greek Islands and a number of foreign countries. Let Captain Albert or his hand picked captains and trained mates show you the wonders of what makes the area around the Florida Keys so unique. Our captains know many places that the big 40 plus person boats cannot get to and may not know about. Sail with a crew attending your needs, feel free to be involved with sailing or lifting the sails. It is the goal of the Company to have you experience direct contact with the wind, the sails and the sea with confidence if you one day want to buy your own boat. Feel like you own the boat by telling our crew what you wish to have for an experience whether it is more swim/snorkeling, fishing, sailing. You are the one in charge as if you own the sailboat.

Bring a pair of good walking shoes, no need to bring heels as you will want to explore and walk as much as you feel comfortable to see the nuances of Key West.

While at dockside, meals on your own; with half day sailing we provide your snorkel gear and fishing gear. When you take the helm once the captain gets you safely out of the harbor and sets a course, the feeling of adventure will sweep you away. Low tech environment, great for families to take a break from electronics even if for one day, there is so much to see at sea! Earn a 2 hour sunset sail for 2 nights stay at the docks for example. When you watch the sails unfurl, the feeling of exhilaration is exciting and deeply satisfying while living a lifestyle vacation for your special Key West vacation. The weather is usually ideal most of the year. Call and customize your special destination vacation.
