About this property

Fire Escape Cabin-Fire Department Theme! 12 miles to Yosemite gate!

Located just minutes from the Historic Sierra National Scenic Byway. Offering easy access to historic sites, hiking, mountain biking, off-road vehicle trails/roads, fishing, and swimming in Bass Lake (just 10 minutes away). Also conveniently located within minutes is the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park, the quaint town of Oakhurst, a local snow park, Badger Pass Ski Resort, the historic Sugar Pine Railroad and much more.

The 'Fire Escape' cabin earned its name because of the vacation 'escape' that it offers the fire-fighter-owner and family. The interior decor includes fun fire service accents, making the visit fun, comfortable and unique.

From the front or back decks you are surrounded with Ponderosa Pines, Cedar, Manzanita and Oak trees. Families of deer often pass through the properties, offering a true mountain feel.

This affodable mountain cabin is in a central location, making it perfect for enjoying Sierra Mountains.

Cozy Cabin
This cabin is adorable! Easy parking, several outdoor spaces to enjoy, and a washer/dryer made this spot ideal. Located close to restaurants/shopping and minutes from the south entrance to Yosemite; the host was very easy to communicate with and accommodating. The cabin did have WiFi, coffee/creamers and laundry detergent when we visited.

Wonderful Cabin!
What a great cabin. We got in late and immediately saw deer on the property. Our kids were very excited. Kelly was very responsive to inquiries. This cabin was just a short drive to the park entrance. The place itself was very comfortable and had plenty of board games for the kids. I would definitively want to bring my family back to Kelly’s property.

Everything you need
We had a great stay at the Fire Escape! From bottle opener to extra blanket, it has everything you need. Communication was good with owners. The place is well situated. It is 1h30 drive from Yosemite Valley, but the road to get there is worth it! We recommend!

Great location
we enjoyed our stay here at the fire escape cabin. The location to the south entrance of Yosemite was perfect. We were also pleasantly close to Bass Lake and downtown Oakhurst. If you plan to enjoy the lake, bring a umbrella, floaties and beach chairs. They do have 2 camping chairs available but as we live at the beach i appreciate a nice beach chair for a leisurely day on the shore. I do suggest a day on the lake or a quick trip to jump in and cool off. Like I said its very close to the cabin. We did cook just about every meal. The kitchen was adequately stocked. I do suggest if you use spices that you bring your own but plenty of salt and pepper. It was nice to have a gas grill on the patio. There were plenty of movie options and TV entertainment for the evenings after a long day of exploring. My kids are teenagers but it seemed to have plenty of toys and games to play. It had plenty of room for the 5 of us. The beds were nice but very firm. It has window ac in each bedroom which was a must this time of year. The shower was not that great. The pressure was minimal and the shower head made it hard to get the soap off. I loved that it had a washer and dryer with detergent available (although I brought my own just in case). The one bathroom is downstairs from the bedrooms and had plenty of space for more than 1 person at a time. The family room had wonderfully comfortable seating which I love. No air conditioning unit downstairs just fans. While we managed ok because we were gone during the hottest time of day we did spend an afternoon in the cabin and it was mildly uncomfortable with just the fans. I run 🔥 so take this as informational only. We are not big hikers so we planned other activities besides just exploring Yosemite. The sugar pine mt railroad in fish camp was close to the cabin and a wonderful way to learn about the history of yosemite logging. It was a nice train ride through the forest. We also went horseback riding at the Yosemite horse pack station. The trail was very rough. They are very strict about their bmi requirements due to the nature of the trails so be advised that they weight and measure each adult. They will turn you away if you don't meet the requirements. We love the water and spent an afternoon on the side of a beautiful creek just inside Wawona. The water was very clear and wonderful on a hot day. Bring a picnic and hang out. Kelly was great. She answered all my questions quickly. Ty

Family Trip
We absolutely loved the location and decor of the Fire Escape Cabin! We were able to do all our grocery shopping at the local Vons and we were close by to Yosemite’s south entrance and also Bass Lake. The only issue we encountered were the amount of spider webs and the dusty furniture but that could easily be fixed. Overall, this cabin is fully stocked and an absolute must if visiting Yosemite. The Barreto family has thought of everything! The welcome binder has helpful information and having access to WiFi is great especially when traveling with children. Thank again Barreto family for making our first Yosemite trip easier.

Adorable, clean cabin. Just the right amount of space for our family of five. Able to make our own meals and prepare for our hikes in Yosemite. About as close to the south entrance to the park without being in the park.

Quiet, comfy and convenient...
Great place to stay! Enjoyed the comfy beds and furnishings, well stocked kitchen, and convenient location, in a quiet neighborhood less than a mile from Hwy 41. The guide books on local hikes and activities came in handy, too! Pricey for 2 but worth it.

Great for our family of 4
We were very happy with the "Fire Escape" cabin! The location was great for visiting Yosemite, and the cabin had everything we needed. The check-in and check-out times were earlier than stated in the listing -- it would have been nice to know we could have arrived earlier than we did. Otherwise, no complaints at all, and we will definitely stay here again if we get the opportunity!

Great place close to Yosemite entrance
We had a great two night stay at the fire escape cabin in mid-september. The place was a great location for our Yosemite trip. The kitchen has everything you need, and the downstairs is actually quite big, we saw deer in the morning and the beautiful night sky in the evening- will definitely be heading back here in the near future! Oh, and our one year old son loved the kids toys in the living room!

Spacious and comfortable home away from home
We used the Fire Escape cabin as our Yosemite base. The cabin was quiet, spacious, comfortable and super clean. The kitchen has all you need for simple meals, and having laundry facilities onsite was a huge plus. Loved having coffee on the back deck each morning, and enjoyed the wildlife...saw deer most days and several varieties of birds local to the region. Would definitely recommend this property and we wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we are in the area. Many thanks to Kelly for letting us stay in your cozy cabin!

Our family includes myself and my husband, as well as our three children. We love to camp, garden, swim, hike and vacation. We also enjoy music and photography. My husband is in the fire service and I am a flight attendant. We live on the Central Coast of California. We are involved with our children's activities and their schools making it hard to enjoy our cabin and the mountains as often as we would like. We enjoy sharing our cabin with others and knowing they will enjoy the wonderful experiences that the area offers.

Why they chose this property

After 10 years of visiting the Oakhurst/Bass Lake area we decided to purchase a second home there. We had dreamed of buying in the area for several years and often visited properties during our vacations. We purchased the cabin in 2004, but rented it to a full time tenant almost immediatly. We had several tenants over the years and didn't consider using it as a vacation home until February of 2009. We stocked the home with all of the comforts that other rentals we had stayed in offered. We also chose to decorate the cabin with items from the fire service, as we enjoyed the idea of sharing the toys/decor that we have collected over the years.

The location of the cabin is perfect for our needs. It is in a wooded residential neighborhood, offering the feeling of being in the mountains, but not feeling isolated. The drive into Yosemite is a short and scenic drive. The quaint town of Oakhurst offers all of the amenities that we need. From a movie theater to grocery stores. But our favorite is Bass Lake! We love the warm water and incredible views of the tree lined shores and scenic mountain backgrounds.

What makes this property unique

The cabin offers a wonderful central location. Some of the areas and activities that we have enjoyed while in the area include: Historic Yosemite Flats Park, trail rides on horse back, the historic Sierra Skyranch Inn (They offer some interesting ghost sighting stories and have been featured on several TV shows lately). We also have enjoyed a little gambling at Chuckcansi Casino in Coarsegold. A drive down historic Hwy 49 an hour or so are some of the historic gold country towns that we have enjoy visiting that include: Mariposa and (my kids favorite) Columbia. We have heard from several of our past renters that the central location for perfect for their visit to the area. We are thrilled they agree!
