Phase 2 construction is underway, and the first closure begins this spring. Closure C (Sheridan Lake Road to Be Still Road) takes effect on Monday, April 28, 2025, and ends Friday, June 13, 2025. During this time period, the closed roadway will not be open to through traffic. Outside of the closure, but within the construction area, travelers can expect pilot cars and wait times, the use of large construction equipment, narrowed driving lanes, and loose gravel surfacing.
The road closure will begin again with the same closures August 13-October 25, 2025. Please refer to us-385 . com for more details.
How does this affect guest at the Pinetop Hideaway? You will still be able to visit Hill City, Mount Rushmore, Keystone, Custer and Custer State Park but it will take you a little longer to get there. Instead of traveling south on Hwy 385 to your destination you will travel south on Hwy 385 and turn at Sheridan Lake Road and head back into Rapid City to get on Hwy 16. You may already be familiar with this route as it is one of the routes I will suggest getting to our cabin. There are plenty of tourist attractions along this road to take in. This DOES NOT affect Hwy 385 going north to Pactola Reservoir, Deadwood, Lead, Sturgis or Spearfish Canyon.
So, what does this mean for your plans? I suggest that you take a look at the maps and plan your days accordingly. Part of the beauty of the Black Hills are the scenic drives you take!
