Friends Trip

A group of us stayed here. The property was as described. The rooms were perfect. The decks were very old and run down. The neighborhood was questionable, but fine for a group of younger people. Location was a 15-20 minute walk from the place.

UNACCEPTABLE - Upkeep and property manager unacceptable - DON'T STAY HERE.

As stated in previous reviews from 2023 the property is not well maintained and there are only excuses stated in the property manager's reply. Since I didn’t see any 2024 reviews, I was hoping things were corrected. Unfortunately, they were not! Comforters were dirty with all types of stains, the garbage disposal didn't work, downstairs shower did not drain, remotes needed batteries, floors were dirty, air conditioning unit stopped working on day 3 of my 4 day stay. The broken AC caused me to call the property manager, John Magathan. He never apologized for the inconvenience he caused me and my sister, who has a respiratory illness. Instead, he stated that we must have left the doors open, which was not the case. When speaking with him, he began to become dismissive, very rude, and disrespectful. Instead of speaking to me when I told him this property is unacceptable he wanted to leave and escalated the problem by calling the police. Instead of offering a peaceful resolution to my complaint, he called the police and evicted us from the property with a 30 minute warning. He did not offer a refund of any sort. We did not break any rules, we simply had a complaint. He exercised "his authority" as an agent of the property to have out of state renters (me and my sickly sister) gather our things vacate the non air-conditioned unit, which was about 90° inside at the time. This was an unrealistic and inhumane request especially for my sister who requires oxygen.

A let down

The property contact person John was helpful, he was quick with responding to my questions. However the property was a disappointment, much smaller than the pictures. The exterior of the building is really rundown, but the interior of the unit is updated. My guess is no one maintains the exterior, there were garbage everywhere by the exterior staircase. Did not realize 2 of the bedrooms and one bathroom were downstairs. It had the feeling of being in the basement, away from the rest of the unit. The light in the staircase was not working. The sinks in both bathrooms were very small, there were no counter space for toiletries. In addition, there were no wall hangers/hooks for towels in the second bathroom and no toilet paper. There was a hole patched up with toilet paper. The curtain in the third bedroom was stained with dirt and was touching one of the beds. This same bedroom had no dresser, only a small table for a lamp. Had to leave everything in the suitcase because there were no counter space to place anything. The beds are super uncomfortable, absolutely no support for your back. The location of the building is quite far from Coastal Highway, no walking distance to anything. To have one tv in the living room and one in only one of the bedrooms was disappointing. So bring a laptop or an iPad to entertain yourselves during downtime. To pay almost $1,400 for three nights was definitely not worth the money.

Improvements needed

Cleanliness was brought down by the ragged/unclean outside appearance. The inside was clean. The check in process needs better communication (I.e. not receiving code in advance of arriving). Clearly all outside railings need replaced. Inside more standard supplies needed (coffee filters, dish towels). Had to purchase batteries for one of the tv remotes. There was only enough laundry detergent for one load. No fabric softener that I saw and dryer, which looked new, did not dry. All bathrooms need towel hangers and all doors need door stops (there were several holes in wall due to not having these door stops.

Decent, fun stay

We liked the bayside breeze. Its nice and quiet away from the hustle and bustle. We rented our own linens, which worked out-- we tried to get them thru the owner but didn't hear anything back. When we arrived we cleaned the floor it was sticky, smelled really bad- took 4 times of mopping. We cooked our own breakfast and dinner at the house almost everynight. The one burner on the stove didn't work but we made do. Lots of cabinet space, big fridge and utensils/pots and pans for cooking. The table was big-- room enough for everyone, the chairs weren't comfortable and a couple we put aside as they were unstable to sit on. There were some weird smells in the beds and they were so-so on the comfort level. We were so tired after the beach so it didn't matter too much, there were 4 twins, 2 queens and a pull out double. The double bed was actually comfortable for a pull-out and the couches were nice. We were not thrilled that we could only adjust the thermostat until the schedule points at 6am, 10am, 6pm and 10pm. The baseline was set in the 80s which wasn't practical since its was really hot and humid. Communication with the owner was bare minimum we were messaged the info 1 hour prior to our stay and that's the most we heard from when we booked over a month ago to recently, even when we reached out to him with questions prior to our stay. There was wifi, worked good in the living room. The touch entrance lock was a convenient feature so you didn't need a key and the balconies were relaxing. We stored our beach stuff on the lowest deck and brought the car around to load in the morning. It was about 5 blocks or so from the beach, walkable if necessary. Overall, we were happy to book a vacation for 9 people, somewhat last minute and enjoyed ourselves. If you have time to plan ahead, for the money there are much nicer places.
