About this property

Oceanfront Cottage - spectacular Views Minutes from Acadia National Park

This comfortable, fully equipped, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, ocean front cottage has stunning views of Blue Hill bay. We are located in West Tremont, between Bass Harbor & Seal Cove, on the western side of Mt. Desert Island, minutes from Acadia National Park. Some of the best hiking is on this side of the island. Enjoy views from the large wrap around deck or sit on the rocks feet from the ocean to enjoy sunsets and listen to the loons. PETS ARE WELCOME - NON SMOKING

We are seven mi. from Southwest Harbor’s stores & restaurants, and Bar Harbor is only 20 miles away. There is a fully equipped kitchen, washer & dryer, and heaters in both bathrooms, downstairs bedrooms and the main area for cool coastal mornings. Sea breezes provide cooling on hot days, fans are provided. Upstairs bedroom with king bed, small private deck and bath with shower. Downstairs bedroom with queen bed, bedroom with two twin beds, bathroom with full shower and bathtub. Gas grill, Wifi, Cable TV, DVD, plenty of parking, and screened shed for storage of bikes.
There are houses along this shore, we do have neighbors on both sides, but the area retains a rural feel with woods and trails and much wildlife.
We are on the rocky Maine coast, you can sit and climb on the rocks at the water's edge but it is difficult to launch kayaks from the rocks. There are many launch sites (sea and lake) nearby as well as a rental directly on a nearby lake.
This is our family’s seasonal cottage which we welcome you to share. We live in the house for several months each year so it is set up as our home, not just as a rental, and is very comfortable. The view is amazing!

Note: Weekly rentals only. Saturday to Saturday.

Other Nearby Activities: Walking, hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, boat rides, bird watching, star gazing, whale watches, nature cruises

Pets Welcome: We welcome your well behaved pets

Internet / Phone: Wifi, unlimited US & Canada phone service.

First trip to Maine

Beautiful and cozy stay in west tremont Maine. Such a cute little cabin on the ocean. Everything we could’ve asked for lodging wise for our first time visiting the east coast. Beautiful sunrise and sunset on the ocean, marine wildlife to observe. Accessibility to Acadia was easy and not a far drive at all, same with bar harbor for when we wanted to venture out and do some shopping or see the downtown. The house was clean and had so many amenities which were all useful during our stay. Ann was a wonderful and communicative host to work with, she was very attentive to us and had our vacation at the top of her priority list.

Perfect Maine Cottage!

This beautiful property made this our best trip to Acadia yet. Everyday, our children eagerly rushed to the small pebble beach to search for sea glass and other treasures. My husband and I enjoyed mugs of coffee each morning on the bench overlooking the ocean. And we ate dinner each night on the porch with a perfect view of the sunset over the water. The cottage was cozy but plenty spacious for a family of five. Every detail was thought of, including coloring supplies and story books for the children. We had an absolutely magical week and would love to stay here again!

Finding peace on the Quiet Side!

Everything is as stated on the property description. I love to cook and found the kitchen functional and important staples at hand: sugar, flour, spices (all not expired). We were also invited to pick the fresh lettuce, mint and chives that were in the garden, which was very convenient (and tasty). We did all the touristy things at Bar Harbor, went on a delightful 3 1/2 hr puffin boat tour, ate at some fabulous restaurants, visited some wonderful gardens, but the view and serenity is what we came for and this property was just perfect! Every morning I took my cup of hot tea out to the lone bench sitting on the edge of the ocean and was enveloped by the salty ocean breezes and delightful sounds. Ann is a delight to work with, very responsive, the property was clean and inviting and extremely easy to find. Loved our stay!!

This is THE BEST cozy hide-a-way!!!!

This house is a hidden gem, in a quiet area, surrounded by natures beauty!! It is away from the traffic, hustle and bustle, tucked back in a long driveway, sitting right on the harbor but close to small, artisian towns, close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We saw loons, eagles, deer, fox and watched the seals, right off the back deck!!! We have rented houses, on the beach, in Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks but I would chose this home, over the beach houses, any day!!!! We are planning on returning here next year!! This place was just fantastic!!!! The owners are very friendly and keep you updated on everything!! Highly recommend!!!

Relaxing Family Vacation

We spent a wonderful, relaxing week at this lovely cottage with our two daughters and dog. It truly felt like a home away from home! There was plenty of space to spread out, and it was so well stocked with everything you could think of, including many books, games, and DVDs for rainy days. We used the extremely well stocked kitchen, and the grill, to make meals that we could eat on the porch while enjoying the view. We also spent hours exploring the rocks in front of the house, easily accessed by a short path to the ocean. It was warm enough that my husband and daughters even braved the cold ocean water to swim! The location was great- a nice blend of being in a quiet area, but also easily accessible to towns and Acadia trails when we wanted to go out and explore. We had several hiking and swimming adventures, as well as shopping and eating out. It was an ideal week, and we hope to return again!

Stunning location

We brought our 2 young children and 2 dogs to this lovely cottage overlooking the ocean. We saw amazing wildlife, porpoises, deer, loons and more. The cottage was so well stocked - there was nothing they didn’t have! Great sheets and towels, and access to everything MDI has to offer. There are so many gorgeous trails and things to do right outside the door! Games and a huge dvd collection for rainy days. Will definitely be back to stay here.

Amazing View!!!

We were extremely happy with every aspect of our stay at Stuarts Cottage. The location is close (within 20-30 min.) to anything you’ll need, but is surrounded by thick woods and borders the ocean. There’s a wonderful deck with very nice & comfy chairs, benches, lounge chairs. Also a gas grill & large table for dining outdoors. The home itself is ultra-comfortable with nice furniture & space for everyone . We were a party of 5 adults & 2 medium sized dogs, and I never felt like we needed more space. The kitchen is great - everything you can possibly need is there including an adjoining pantry/laundry room. The second floor was my favorite! All of it is master suite, bathroom. There’s a comfy king sized bed & tons of space for unpacking. Master suite includes a 2nd room if you want to spread out & a very nice bathroom. I want to express how nice all the furnishings were. I’m talking about the chairs & couch where we relaxed each night, & especially the beds we all used. If you’ve ever rented a place with broken down beds and/or uncomfortable chairs, you understand how important that is. All of the “creature comforts” were very, very good. This is truly home away from home. Downstairs bedrooms & bathroom also were comfy & nice. The whole cottage is very clean & really well-stocked - including all the things you need for preparing lobster at the Cottage! There are plenty of wonderful places to eat , all within about 20 min. drive. A trip to Bar Harbor is a fun day, Acadia Nat’l. Park’s Cadillac Mountain is very nearby & provides breathtaking scenery while driving all the way to the top. There’s a lot to see & do - especially in Acadia. My favorite little town was Southwest Harbor. Just a few really nice restaurants, beautiful homes & shops, and the Harbor itself makes this a charming place. Everywhere we went, we met really nice people & I never felt like a tourist! Visiting Mount Desert Island is a great vacation destination. For me, finding a place to stay that’s by the water-especially the Ocean- is necessary. I found Stuarts Cottage to be the perfect spot because it’s rural & still accessible, has the most stunning view from several good vantage points, has very nice walking trails & a rocky beach close by, is pet friendly (much appreciated), and is a really very nice & comfortable home to stay in. Cute little yard w/path down to Rocky beach.

OUTSTANDING location in the Acadia National Park

Super property - with more amenities than home in some ways. Super clean. Very easy communication with owners and agents. So worth the dollars - even without a discount due to construction next door. We really only "heard" the workers twice in a week. Perfectly situated on the quiet side of the island. Park, Bar harbor only 25+ mins away. Great views [we even saw a Harbor Porpoise on evening. Great breezes in the evening! Awesome LL Bean towels and huge W/D to keep them fresh. Well stocked pantry with simple rule of replace what you use! Would recommend to ANYONE - We were 4 adults! Plenty of room for 2 - 8 easily. Great guides and suggestion binder waiting on the table - Well used!! Well appreciated! Thank you Stuarts!!

Awesome views - Ideal location

Trust the description - it is spot on. We couldn't have been more pleased with our 1st VRBO experience. The location was perfect - less than 30 minute drive gets you anywhere on MDI - Bar Harbor, Acadia Loop access - 10 minute drive gets you to Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Southwest Harbor, Seawall picnic area. If you don't want to drive there are several walking trails right from the cottage. Every morning we would sit outside on either the deck or ocean side bench and watch the lobstermen tend to their traps. At night we would have cocktails while watching some incredible sunsets (cove location faces west). As for the cottage it was obvious that the owners and renters treated the cottage with respect. It was clean, well organized, and roomier than we thought it would be. From linens to dishes to games we wanted for nothing. Couple that with great weather, wildlife (harbor porpoise, seals and mackerel come in on the high tide) and family time we couldn't have asked for more.

Another beautiful week in Acacdia

Coming back to the house last summer was as wonderful as before, but this time around we were able to explore even more of the "quiet side" of the island where the house is located. There are some great hikes and gorgeous views to be found in these lesser-traveled parts of the Island, and these are especially welcome during the busy months! The wildlife was in full view, with Ospreys, Eagles, and all kinds of migratory birds in evidence right off the front deck. The home is as comfortable as we remember, with plenty of room for everyone and literally all the comforts of home. The new TV and upgraded wifi/internet access were highly appreciated additions! It's hard to beat the glorious view from this property, and coupled with the incredibly diverse range of outdoor adventures available on the Island, we start thinking about when to return before we even get home.

A true home away from home, an unbeatable view!

We had an incredible stay at this wonderful family home! The home is equipped with all the essentials and then some, and is thoughtfully designed and laid out to maximize both the interior and exterior space. The bedrooms and sleeping arrangements are very comfortable and allow for excellent privacy and separation for kids and other guests. Full baths upstairs and on the main floor are a welcome touch for a big group, too! The wraparound deck has unobstructed water views that are nothing short of stunning. (And the cozy deck off the master suite lets you wake up to the same beautiful views!) A short a walk down to the shoreline affords picture perfect sunsets that will surely become a "not-to-be-missed" part of your day! There is ample parking, and the outside of the property is beautifully maintained. There are seemingly endless outdoor activities all around Mount Desert Island, with the home being very convenient to several parts of Acadia National Park. The hiking, kayaking, and biking are simply some of the best we have experienced anywhere. We loved the location of this property on the "quiet side" of the island, and the drive to Bar Harbor for shopping, dining, and other activities is an easy one. We will certainly be back!

Property lovely, well maintained and secluded.

I keep returning to this rental as it feels like a home away from home. The location is outstanding, with access to views of the water and sunsets. The listing description is accurate and the amenities are more than advertised. The house is exceptionally well organized and maintained. Walk in and you are home. The house is outfitted with all your needs from bedding to binoculars. The kitchen has everything you have at home including all dishes, wraps, seasonings, pots and pans. Even a lobster pot. Bring nothing, just replace what you use. Everything is well taken care of, clean and comfortable. Close to all activities in the area. Local hikes/walks, rocky beaches etc. Allows you to enjoy the Acadia experience but you set your own pace. Enjoy!!

Repeat Renters

2011 was our second visit to the Stuart Cottage and we have already signed up to return in 2012. My wife and I have stayed at several other properties on Mount Desert Island and this is by far the best. First and foremost, the location is absolutely spectacular. The scenery is just what you would expect along the Maine coastline. The ocean view is incredible particularly in the late afternoon and as the sun sets. Wildlife is plentiful (loons, dolphin, osprey, bald eagles). We have two small dogs and there are plenty of quiet roads and paths to walk them right next to the property. The house itself is fully stocked and well maintained. For cool nights, the wood burning stove has been replaced with a modern and reliable oil burning space heater. The property is on the quiet side of the island and away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park is nearby as well as ferry service to Swan's Island and Isleford. 2 grocery stores are located in Southwest Harbor (10 minutes) that took care of most of our needs. Our favorite local restaurants are Thurston's (lobster) and Top of the Hill (prime rib Tuesday/Thursday. We highly recommend this property!

Stunning, tranquil view

We love the Tremont/W.Tremont area--the "quietside," where we'd stayed for several years. After welcoming a dog into our home we were looking for a new place on the water that allowed pets. The Stuart's cottage was more than big enough for our family of 4 plus dog. (A family of six would easily fit.) The best part was enjoying daily breakfasts and dinners on the porch with fabulous, tranquil views--what we come to Maine for! (I'd been a little worried about the lack of screen on the porch but we were never bothered by bugs (until after sunset).) Our family would walk down to the rocks after dinner, picking blueberries on the way, and enjoy the sunset and beauty of nature all around--including porpoises dancing! Kids appreciated the well-stocked games and adults the well-equipped kitchen. We will definitely come back!

No better way to for newcomer to enjoy Maine

What a wonderful house and location! The layout of the house was perfect for my friends (and their dogs) to share the week. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortably furnished. The house was supplied with just about everything you can ask for: a well stocked pantry, cooking utensils, pots & pans, linens and towels, handy tools, grill, and excellent collection of books. The washer and dryer was very convenient. With the personal decoration and artwork, it seemed as if I was visiting the country home of a good friend or family. Since it was my first visit to Maine, I cannot think of a better introduction to all of its attractions: rocky but gorgeous shoreline, variety of trails for hiking, bicycling, or exploring with dogs, convenient to all attractions, or just enjoying the quiet and magic of nature. The weather was excellent with only a few brief, morning or mid-day showers. The information on local attractions provided in the house binder as well as other literature was very helpful. Everyplace that we explored was exciting: from the shops in Bar Harbor and other towns, view from Cadillac Mountain, the trails in Acadia National Park, especially the trail around Jordan Pond and popovers at the Jordan pond restaurant, hiking the trails along Fernald Cove, playing fetch the stick with dogs (on Bar Island and Seal Cove, and Pretty Marsh) and taking the mail boat to Little Cranberry (Isleford) Island. We also enjoyed the excellent local seafood at Down East Lobster pound, Beales/Captain's Galley, and more upscale dining at Red Sky restaurant. The week was over too soon but I am looking forward to returning next year. Thank you for the chance to enjoy the beauty of the place!

We inherited our family cottage in 2006. The family has spent many wonderful vacations here since 1969. Since retiring we live in the house for several months each year in the spring and fall and live nearby during the rental season.

Why they chose this property

The Maine oceanfront with it's stunning views. Great bird and wildlife watching. Acadia National Park has miles of trails and carriage paths for walking and hiking, miles for bicycling, paths by the ocean and through the woods, ocean and many lakes, great kayaking, swimming and canoeing. Any outdoor activity is available. We love the ocean and we love the outdoors. Mount Desert Island combines both and offers endless outdoor opportunities at any level and everywhere you look is beauty.

What makes this property unique

We think our view is one of the nicest on the island. We never tire of sitting on the deck watching the ocean, sitting on the benches by the water viewing the sunsets and wildlife and being on the rocks right by the ocean. Because we live in the house for several months each year is it set up as our home and is very comfortable. Pets are most welcome.
