About this property

“Sea Meadow" Oceanfront Cottage: Lighthouse Views and Private Beach

Sip your morning coffee on the spacious oceanfront deck while watching the sun rise over the mountains of Acadia and Blue Hill Bay. Listen to the sound of the waves and shorebirds as you watch lobstermen check their traps in the bay in front of the cottage. Explore the secluded, rocky beach and look for sea glass and shells. Enjoy an evening cocktail and watch the moon rise over the Blue Hill Bay Lighthouse. Count the stars in the Milky Way and bask in utter peace and contentment.
‘Sea Meadow’ is a charming, shingle-sided cottage perched 75 feet from the ocean’s edge on the western shore of Blue Hill Bay. It has spectacular open views of the Blue Hill Bay Lighthouse set against the backdrop of Mount Desert Island. The cottage sits on four acres of land and is surrounded by grass and wildflower meadows. A private staircase provides access to the deepwater shorefront and beach with granite boulders. It is only a one hour and 15 minutes drive to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island.
The living room/dining area walls are covered in antique barn board panelling and stone with a beamed ceiling. The den includes an entertainment center that is stocked with board games, puzzles, Roku television, Blu-ray player and more than 80 DVDs. There is a large deck that faces the ocean with a dining table and plenty of seating. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed. Two additional bedrooms each have a single twin bed.
Brooklin is located on the southeast tip of the Blue Hill Peninsula between Blue Hill Bay and Eggemoggin Reach. It is a beautiful, quiet village that boasts it is 'the boatbuilding capital of the world.' Author E.B. White and his wife Katharine made it their home. Brooklin is the home of many fine boat builders, lobster fishermen, and the headquarters of WoodenBoat Magazine. People come from around the world to attend boat building or sailing classes at the WoodenBoat School. Brooklin is, quite simply, a very special place.

Beautiful Getaway!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sea Meadow cottage. The cottage itself was beautiful and well appointed. The furniture was comfortable and everything was very clean. The location is gorgeous being right on the bay with amazing views and within an hour of Acadia National Park. We enjoyed exploring the park, Bar Harbor, Bangor, and other smaller towns nearby. Mary Louise was responsive when we had questions. Couldn't recommend more highly and would love to come back to stay again!

Perfect setting to celebrate retirement

The photos on the VRBO website simply do not do justice to this beautifully furnished and well-equipped cottage. The views of Blue Hill Bay are spectacular!. We especially enjoyed seeing the wildlife at sunrise each morning. We were able to spend time in all three sections of Acadia National Park during our stay. The highlight was island hopping from Isle au Haut to Stonington via kayak. Sea Meadow Cottage provided the perfect setting for me to celebrate my retirement!

Peaceful perfection

We can’t recommend Sea Meadow Cottage highly enough. Its location is utterly stunning, with astonishing sea and mountain views - you could stay in all day watching the light change and the seals playing in the water and listening to the birds. It’s so incredibly peaceful and beautiful, and the cottage itself is generously and comfortably equipped and furnished. But the wider area is wonderful too, with much to explore and discover - from Acadia National Park to the little towns of Blue Hill and Brooklin, and coastal walks and sea swimming. All round, a magical place....

Perfect Cottage for a Family Vacation

My family of four stayed in the cottage this August and we were overwhelmed by the beauty of it all. Inside, the cottage was perfectly decorated and had every amenity you could wish for. The owner was very gracious and responded quickly to every one of my inquiries from the time of the booking to the minute of our arrival. Outside, the privacy and the view were unmatched by any of the other properties we drove past on our way to and from Acadia for five days of our stay. Our only regret is that we did not make this a two-week vacation! Thank you, Mary Louise!

Lovely home in a spectacular and convenient setting

Sea Meadow is a lovely and immaculately kept home, in a spectacular setting on the edge of Blue Hill Bay. The first morning of our stay, a school of Harbour porpoises swam through, close to shore, and throughout our stay, birdlife was abundant. The call of a loon at dusk is an experience not to be missed in this lifetime. Sea Meadow cottage is in a very private location, but only minutes away from the Wooden Boat School in nearby Brooklin, and puts all of the eastern arm of Penobscot Bay within easy reach. It is the nicest vacation rental we have ever stayed in, and we look forward to returning!

Amazing Views, Stunning Home

We had a great week here with our two teenage children. What a spectacular view to see every morning! The house is well stocked with all you need to make your stay here comfortable and enjoyable. We watched movies, played games, walked the beach, and explored all the surrounding towns. My daughter and I baked cookies in the VERY well-stocked kitchen. Mary Louise is an excellent hostess with lots of information for surrounding sights and eats. THANK YOU!!!

Paradise :)

My family and I recently returned from a second stay at Sea Meadow. I cannot begin to explain how much we LOVE IT THERE!! The house is beautiful, setting stunning. Every detail has been considered when furnishing this home- it is a very comfortable, serene, accommodating space to spend some time. The yard is especially perfect for my family. We have two young children, who began every morning running around in the yard, as my husband and I relaxed on the porch, sipping coffee while staring into the beautiful Blue Hill Bay. And if you're an early riser, the sunrises are like nothing you've ever seen. We cannot wait to go back!

"Sea Meadow Cottage" is Maine-speak for Perfect!

We arrived late at night at Sea Meadow Cottage and were instantly charmed and delighted by the tasteful decor and cleanliness. But the real beauty wasn't seen until the next morning when we were able to enjoy the spectacular views across the bay of beautiful Mount Desert Island and the story-book like Blue Hill Bay lighthouse, the sounds of the lobster boats going out for their daily catch and, of course the ever changing water and sky. Views we never tired of during our entire stay. Sea Meadows had everything we needed to make this the perfect home base: a well kitted out kitchen, interesting dvd-s, games and books for "at home" entertainment and access to a washer/dryer--- all greatly appreciated. The beds were comfortable and the storage space for luggage and clothes worked perfectly. The large living room/dining area windows that looked out over the bay provided spectacular viewing in all kinds of weather, as did the deck, complete with chaise lounges, chairs and tables. Visitors really need 2 weeks at Sea Meadow cottage. One week dedicated to rest and relaxation, with strolls to the end of the point (with a stop at historic Naskeag cemetery), a walk to the campus of WoodenBoat School, a quick trip to the village for "necessities" (a gift shop in Brooklin has an excellent selection of regional books), a Thursday visit to the summer Farmer's Market. Another week to spend exploring towns like Rockland (a must for art devotees of the Wyeth Family), trips to Acadia and Bar Island, visits to Deer Isle. It's no wonder that we want to return to "our" cottage for more Maine Adventure! Everyone who has seen our vacation pictures envies our good luck in finding such a perfect home and we have been recommending Sea Meadow to family and friends.

Slice of Heaven

My husband and I chose Sea Meadow for our 25th wedding anniversary getaway. We couldn’t have been more pleased! This is the quintessential Maine cottage of your dreams. The beautiful views of Mt. Desert Island are simply breathtaking. The cottage is beautifully appointed with every comfort, including a perfectly stocked kitchen. Sea Meadow is also a good jumping-off point for visiting Acadia National Park and charming local towns. The property is very private and quiet. And having your own private beach on which to hunt for rocks and shells is a big bonus! We are already looking forward to our next visit to Maine and this lovely cottage.

What a View !!!

My husband and I stayed at Sea Meadow the second week of Sept. What a wonderful time of year to visit the the Maine coast....warm days and cooler nights. It was so peaceful and relaxing sitting on the deck enjoying the view or walking the shoreline at low tide. We explored the surrounding area and ate fantastic seafood. The cottage was perfect...very clean...and supplied with all the comforts of home. We hope to return next year.

Perfect Maine Cottage... really!

My husband and I stayed at Sea Meadow and were very happy with everything! You are right on the water and the 180 degree views of the bay, lighthouse and Cadillac Mountain are incredible. The cottage was beautiful, clean and very well cared for. We had wonderful meals at a few of the local restaurants. It is very convenient to the Wooden Boat School and a great place to stay if you are thinking of taking courses there. We will definitely be back next year!

Perfect Maine Cottage

I stayed at Sea Meadow with my husband and daughters (6 & 8), and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The cottage is perfect with great attention to detail, and the views of the water are stunning. We loved exploring the beach just steps from the porch and the girls loved collecting treasures (shells and rocks). The decor is lovely and the cottage is very comfortable. We explored Brooklin and the neighboring towns and cannot wait to return. Mary Louise was a pleasure to deal with, provided helpful information about the area, and even called to check on us. We would definitely recommend Sea Meadow to anyone looking in this area for the perfect cottage.

Spectacular

We've been vacationing on Penobscot Bay for many years and doubted anything could surpass its beauty until we pulled down the driveway to “Sea Meadow.” Truly, a breath-taking moment! The cottage, inside and out, was also spectacular. The attention to detail and the design of the cottage could not be more perfect. All of the previous reviews are completely accurate without any exaggeration. If you are looking for a great place to relax and enjoy Down East Maine, this is the place.

Impeccable Cottage

My husband and our two daughters (ages 3 and 5) stayed here for a week in the end of June. We wanted a quiet comfortable spot to relax and explore the Maine Coast and found exactly that. The owners' decor and attention to details for its guests - of all ages - is impeccable. Our daughters spent every morning looking for sea glass on the beach, just steps away from the cottage. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises on the deck and relaxing and reading on the cozy furniture in the evening. Brooklin, Maine is a great location for exploring the many Down East towns, it was easy to get to Bar Harbor/Acadia, Deer Isle and Blue Hill from our central location. We felt incredibly at home and comfortable in the house and look forward to returning in future years.

Highly Recommend!

My husband and I stayed at Sea Meadow for a week this summer when he took a course at the Wooden Boat School. While he was pretty much gone from sun up to sun down, Sea Meadow was the perfect spot for me. Private, yet not isolated, I felt very comfortable there on my own and hope to return one day. Besides Blue Hill there are other lovely towns nearby to explore while you're in the area. Everything the other renters have said about the property is true without exaggeration. The view is gorgeous! Attention to detail is tastefully given to the decor and amenities. Yes ,even the bunk beds are comfortable. I never had any problems with internet service, and there is a land line available so you're well connected in addition to your cell phones. Mary Louise is a wonderful hostess and sincerely wants you to enjoy your stay. Like the other viewer said, it definitely is easy to recommend Sea Meadow.

A most beautiful cottage!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Sea Meadow this August. The cottage is immaculate, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. Mary Louise has anticipated every imaginable need, from comfortable beds and furniture, to a wonderfully equipped kitchen, to entertainment possibilities, to ways of enjoying the stunning vistas, to thoughtful suggestions of activities in the area. The setting on Blue Hill Bay is very peaceful and extraordinarily beautiful. We especially loved eating/sitting on the deck and observing the play of light on the water, walking the beach, looking at the night sky, and, perhaps most amazing of all, experiencing the sunrises. The Blue Hill Peninsula area is a special place to visit, and to be able to stay in such a lovely home is a gift. We hope very much to return.

Our family first vacationed in "Down East" Maine when our children were very young. Each of us fell in love with the area and we feel fortunate to spend time in this magical place. Whether sailing on Eggemoggin Reach, hiking in Acadia National Park, or sitting on the deck and watching the ever-changing play of light and wind on the water, we each agree that our time in Maine is "the way life should be."

Why they chose this property

When this property came on the market, we were captivated by the spectacular open views of the Blue Hill Bay Lighthouse set against the backdrop of the mountains on Mount Desert Island.

What makes this property unique

The proximity of the cottage to the water is wonderful. My favorite thing is to get up in the morning before the rest of the family. The house is quiet and I take a good book and my morning coffee out on the deck. I love looking out at the constantly changing color and pattern of the water and listening to the waves lapping against the shore.
