Off the beaten path is the Abernathy. The home was built in the 1900's and has recently been updated but still keeping some of the original charm. After a day of Gem mining, Geocaching, or hiking come back to relax and listen to the birds sing. The home is nestled within 25 acres with abundant wildlife. Eat out or cook in with a kitchen that's fully equipped. We'll provide some essentials such as coffee, sugar, creamer, and spices for cooking.
We live in woods so there is no public transportation. We also get snow at times. There are locations to park your vehicle if a storm is to arrive. All wheel drive and 4-wheel drive is helpful in the winter months. The house is on a private road that we maintain. We have one security camera that stays on. It is located outside the front door pointing towards the parking area.
We love animals but this property does not allow pets during your visit.

This is a very quiet, lovely and unique property. It is very comfortable. The owner let us pick berries on the property, blueberries and black raspberries, they were great. She also gave us farm fresh eggs. I will definitely consider staying here again.
The place was lovely for our first time VRBO experience. If you have trouble with curves, the drive might be a bit difficult, but the roads are great and paved until the actual driveway for the house. You can even see a potter's old kiln from the road a mile or so away from the house on the way out. It's a sweet and quiet setting nestled in the mountains. We were there for work, so we didn't get to enjoy it during the day.
I was concerned about not having internet to get in touch with the host for check-in, but it went smoothly. She was very sweet and met us at the house to show us around and give us the key.
I didn't realize we could have brought food and cooked a
few meals at the house. Next time we might do that. I'm thinking this place would be a nice writer's getaway spot.
Cute cabin/house. Off the beaten path but a lovely setting. Beds are doubles, no queen or king but there are 2 bedrooms so we were able to each have our own. A great place to use as a home base to explore the beautiful Blue Ridge!
I Visit The Mountains Evey Year And The Abernathy House Will Be On My To Do Again List.
I went on Vrbo and requested to rent the property and within 2 hours the owners approved my request. Teresa kept in touch with me by email the whole time before my stay and if I needed anything I could email her during my stay and she replied very quickly to any question that I had.I have to say her and her husband were very polite people when we arrived he met us there and told us everything that we needed to know and also took my family down to the pond that’s down the hill so they could fish and have a good time and he came back and picked them up to I just thought that was very nice that he went out of his way to make sure that they had a good time. When I come back to the mountains I will most definitely be requesting to stay at the Abernathy home

About the host
Hosted by Teresa Cox
I love living in the mountains. Sitting on the porch, listening to the birds is one of my favorite past times. I raise chickens, quail and rabbits. My faith and church are very important to me and I enjoy our programs and singing with the praise team. Some of my hobbies are gardening, crocheting, crafts, sewing, cooking, preserving and camping. I have three wonderful grandchildren that I love to visit and spend time with. My goal is to share our home in the mountains so you can experience nature and the beautiful scenery it offers. Western North Carolina is a wonderful place to visit for its natural beauty
Why they chose this property
If you want to enjoy peace and quiet, then this is the property for you. Sit and enjoy a beverage while listening to the birds sings. And at night there are plenty of stars to watch. It's a comfortable place to stay for any amount of time.
