The worst house rental experience of my life
Dirty, smelly, cluttered, decrepit. Loud (bad) live music basically in your backyard until after 10. Upon arriving we found the house in a dirty condition and saw a roach under the sink. We immediately called Vacasa who said a local contact would come out to the property to spray and to inspect for cleanliness. A exterminator did come, two and a half days later, without any notice. The call center people were nice but we never got a text or call or visit from anyone from the local office at Vacasa after calling almost daily. A VRBO manager was supposed to call back about the terrible communications with Vacasa and never did. Like a previous guest, we spent a lot of time and money cleaning the house and buying air fresheners to make this somewhat bearable. We left a day early. Now, even at home all our clothes smell like wet dog and musty house. This rental is wholly inappropriate for families unless its just big dogs and teenage boys who don't care about cleanliness. The owner needs to either convert this rental to low-cost staff housing (which OBX desperately needs) or put a dumpster in the driveway and throw away 80% of the house, including the dirty, stained carpet with cigarette burns. All the puzzles and games are missing pieces. A dog bone was in the crayon bucket. The furniture and fixtures are ancient. The only plus is the water was hot and that our family will be able to tell stories about this dump for years. Also - the internet was too slow to work, need a hotspot.

Horrible communication from vacasa
Upon check in on Saturday we noticed a strong offensive odor throughout the home. We contacted vacasa who manages the property through chat. They replied and we told them of the issue and said they would contact via phone. FOUR DAYS LATER I inquire and they say they sent someone to inspect without notice and did not enter because we had a dog in the home. Had they called or messaged or anything really, we would have taken our dog out with us. We were expected to stay home for four days with no notice in a smelly house and wait on someone to help apparently. I told them of the issue again and then we had no replies from Vacasa. We spent over $100 on cleaning/air freshener products to make the home tolerable during our stay and stayed out as much as possible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this property, managers are absent and will not help.

Great location house
Really loved the location. Short bike ride or 8 min walk to the beach. Right in the middle of town, walkable to the boardwalk, restaurants and shops. We parked our car and didn’t move it until we left. The house could use some TlC but everything works. The kitchen was very well equipped with most of the kitchen gadgets. We brought our Blue Apron meals and forgot to pay attention to utensils we would need but we were able to bake and cook. There is a bit of a smell but it’s a dog friendly home and we were grateful we could bring our dog and fully enjoy our time.

Great location
We loved the location and the library of fun summer reads!!! Each of us in our diverse family found a fun read. The covered upper deck was a favorite place to relax. Kitchen was well equipped but I am not sure I figured out the oven… I think it kind of ran hot. Overall a great simple beach house that our family really enjoyed. Thank you!

Perfect house for the family
We booked a few weeks out and we were very excited to stay in Duck with our puppy. The house had plenty of room for my 4 children to play, eat and sleep. The main living area is cozy and perfect for watching movies and cuddling. The kitchen has plenty of room to cook and move around. Proximity to town is unbeatable. We walked to grab ice cream, new suits, and a fabulous dinner on our last night. The perfect vacation for us.

Great location in Duck
This house is located right in the heart of town, close to many grew shops and restaurants. The neighborhood is quiet and beach access is about a 6-7 minute walk. The house does have some nice beach amenities to make your vacation more enjoyable.

Clean and comfortable
The house was very clean and comfortable for our family of three and our dog. The house is located steps away from great restaurants, bakeries, and best of all, the Duck boardwalk, which we really enjoyed. It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach, and less than 5 minutes to the sound side boardwalk. The only issues we had were that the a/c was not on when we arrived and the house was uninhabitable for several hours while we waited for it to cool. Also, we had some ants, but that's not uncommon in our experience at the beach. The other issue is with the location--it is very close to a bar, and you can hear live music at night, so it's not particularly a quiet location if that's what you are looking for.

Not a stay-cation
Oar house was not what we expected. We arrived right on time at 4pm able to enter the house which was fantastic! The Vacasa team was great getting us in. The house upon entry was very dusty and smelled like dog. We bought some Fabreze and opened the doors. It all went well from there. Felt like home. Made family dinner every night. Spent days on the beach. Rode bikes we rented everywhere including Cravings for live music. The house has more amenities then they promote and should!! Location is awesome! Great for adults and teens. Quiet, peaceful and perfect for families who want the best of everything. Would rent again. Thanks for having us!
