Thanks for reading and for considering our cabin for your trip. We've put a lot into this home and it's a very special place. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about the cabin, Indian River, N. MI, etc. I grew up not far from where I built our home and I know a ton about the region. I'm happy to help you plan your trip the best I can!

Sidell Cabin 2024
We had a wonderful time at Indian River. The Cabin was clean and spacious for our group. Full bathrooms on every floor was a bonus. The back yard was a great place to hangout at the end of a long day. Very peaceful but close to many parks, day trip activities and beaches. Would recommend to friends and family! Vrbo host was amazing to work with.

Bi-annual family week
The cabin was very comfortable and great for our family six adults and 3 children. The location was also very convenient for everything we were doing. We met Ben when we checked in, the property caretaker, and he an Inez were very helpful with all our questions. The first night we could not get the outdoor grill working so we called Ben and he immediately brought his personal grill over for us to use, when the owner was notified he replaced the grill with a new one.

Loved our stay
Our family stayed here and everyone loved it. A little bit of everything for everyone. Doug helped us with anything needed and property managers helped us get back a couple of items the grandkids left behind. All very very nice and helpful. Lots to do in the area. Worst part was we had to leave at some point.

A Lovely Cabin
The cabin was so clean and stocked with all the kitchen and bathroom supplies we needed. The sauna was also amazing and a welcome warm up after a day on the slopes at Nub's Nob. The kids/teens had fun in the game room/basement. There were plenty of comfortable beds and pillows too. We couldn't find trails from the property along the river but it was so calming to sit and watch the water in the morning. It was so quiet and peaceful!

Up North Stay
Great location! Right on the Sturgeon River and minutes away from the White Pine Trail. Loved the beach in Indian River. The house accommodated all 9 of us easily. Great deck for outside eating. We cooked most of our meals in the kitchen which had what we needed. A great place to enjoy all northern Michigan has to offer.

What a comfortable enjoyable place to stay. Our family loved the rustic feel of the place. The balcony was our hub for dinner parties and cool morning coffees. The fire pit and large lawn were perfect for our active family and our evening sing a longs/ story telling. We will return again!

Stunning Northern Michigan Cabin at its absolute finest.
This is one of those situations where you feel like you’re waking up from a dream. Everything was as we had hoped and more. We searched many properties before choosing this one and to say it was perfect would be an understatement. True up north charm, gorgeous property, a beautiful river, and centrally located to so many fun things to do you will never want to leave. The owner is responsive, kind, and has paid every attention to detail for a true up north Michigan experience. I have nothing to say but great things about the entire week. We can’t wait to plan when we can return. Doug is a fantastic host, with a truly fantastic property. We ate like kings, laughed like fools, and loved like a big happy family. Some of our best memories were made here

Winter wonderland!
Family vacation over the holidays made this home a perfect spot to gather. The home had all we needed for fun and offers a gentle slope for sledding that the kids enjoyed while the fire pit was going to keep us warm. Great location allowed us to choose which slopes we wanted for downhill skiing during the day. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped for our family dinners. Thank you to the hosts. You helped us make wonderful memories!

Fun time in Indian River
There’s lots to do in the area (if you are looking at this area you probably already know that). If you plan on fishing the Sturgeon (where the cabin is located), you should not plan on fishing right off the property as the bank is steep and water is quiet deep. But, it is beautiful. This place made a nice base camp for the week. We enjoyed Burt Lake, Mackinac Island, Petoskey, and even had a rainy day at Avalanche Bay at Boyne Mountain. If you want to take kids fishing, the pier at Devoe Beach on Burt Lake is nice. The State park is great for the beach. As for the cabin, everything was nice. A previous review mentioned the towels were old, but they are now nice and new and fluffy. There’s lots of room out back to play or put up a tent and plenty of trees for a hammock too. Overall this was a very nice place.

Great place to stay
This was our second visit, and everything was still perfect for the family. Although the weather didn't cooperate, we still enjoyed our stay. Because of all the rain, the basement was a little musty and cold but we didn't have to use it this time. The Kitchen was perfectly set up for a large group (there were 7 of us). The large backyard was perfect for outdoor games, and the firepit area was great for sitting & enjoying the peace & quiet. We will definitely choose this again if we are in the area.

Awesome getaway on the river
Had a great time at this cabin! The backyard is much bigger than the pictures show. Cabin was great and had lots of room for 8 people with an extra bedroom to spare. River was definitely cold water but kids still played around looking for petosky stones. Cell service is weak for internet but calls and texts go through no problem- a blessing to keep kids off electronics : ) would definitely stay again!

Three week stay great.
The host responded immediately. The caretakers were very helpful and friendly. We tubed the River a number of times. Children need supervision for tubing. Water is fast but no rapids. Golfed at numerous courses close by. Petrosky is a very cute town with many things to do, 25 min. away. Mackinac Island a great day trip. Quiet. Big yard. Nice fire pit by river. We brought a boat and put in at four different lakes in area. Used the sandy beach at state park two miles away. Bike path very close. We rode into Indian River for ice cream.

Fun time with family
We enjoyed many meals with our large group and had room enough for everyone to stay. The lawn was larger than expected and allowed us the ability to play lawn games. We would’ve spent more time at the fire pit if the weather would’ve allowed it. The bottom level is cold and has a large bedroom and bathroom that was very private. It was a nice proximity to Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Mackinac Island, and Traverse City. Overall, a great experience for getting away from it all if that is your wish.

Host profile image
My name is Doug Sidell and I have a passion for life and for what I do! I'm a real estate broker and investor. I represent buyers and sellers of virtually all types of real estate in the Charlotte/Lake Norman area in North Carolina. My primary residence is in Denver, NC and my business is simply named after me: C. Douglas Sidell & Co. I graduated with undergraduate and MBA degrees from Michigan State University and absolutely love following the Spartans in basketball and football. Most of my free time is spent with my wife, Krista, who is a nurse practitioner and an alumnus of The Ohio State University, our son, Noah, and daughters Anna Faith and Lexi Ann. Some of my other free time is spent fly fishing, upland bird hunting, golfing, cooking, reading, traveling, kayaking, and working on just about anything around our home and Christmas Tree Farm! That's right...we also own a Christmas Tree Farm! Grace Tree Farm is where our home is in Denver, NC just 26 miles from Uptown Charlotte. I started the farm by planting the first trees just before our son was born in 2011. The farm has about 4000 Christmas trees for people to come out to and choose-and-cut the perfect tree. Thanks be to God for all our blessings.

Why they chose this property

We didn't buy our vacation cabin, we built it! It is a home I (Doug) designed and built in 2006 on the most perfect piece of Sturgeon River property. I (Doug) chose to buy the land because it is so close to everything that is fun to do in Northern Michigan and because it would enable me to build the type of home I was looking to construct. The finished product is a three-story cabin with a finished, walk-out lower level, a main floor that's set up perfectly for entertaining inside and out, an upstairs that is well-suited for kids and adults, and views of the Sturgeon River just 50' in back of the house. There is a never ending supply of fun things to do; especially for families with children. A few that are really high on our list include: kayaking, fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing, boating, snowmobiling, biking, hiking, ATV & motorcycle riding, X-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, etc. and it's all just outside the front door of my cabin. I love it! I hope you will to.

What makes this property unique

Some unique benefits I enjoy while staying at our cabin on the river include, but are not limited to: peace and quiet; late-night bonfires at the river; lots of room for all my guests/family members; space for the dogs to run around; relaxing in the cedar sauna; playing some of my favorite golf courses all within a 30 minute drive; cooking/BBQing big meals; watching movies on the big screen TV; listening to the birds early in the morning while drinking coffee on the deck; catching trout right in back of the house; riding our 4 Wheeler through all the back-country trails just outside the cabin; taking advantage of all the freedom!
