We loved our stay at Anchor Inn! The house was clean and had a lot of character! The beds were very comfortable and the views were amazing! We would definitely stay here again!
Perfect place for our family to gather for Thanksgiving. The owner was so welcoming and the home just wonderful- amazing views, so comfortable, well equipped, etc. Perfect gathering place for family! Highly recommend and hope to be back!
This place is beautiful. The view is amazing the house is so cute and cozy. The town is wonderful as well everyone is so friendly. Lots of great places to check out. We loved how all the houses had the dates in them it was really cool to see that.
This cottage was by far the best place my sisters and I have stayed. We go away every summer and winter. Our roots in New England, we seem to go back there often. We visited other family who had health issues and as a result we were unable to stay as much in the cottage as would would have liked to. Jeff was one of the kindest hosts allowing us a little later checkout.
This property does not disappoint! Beautiful sunrises, perfect location and overall a peaceful vacation spot. Would recommend to anyone! Thank you to the family for allowing us to stay.
We can’t recommend this house enough! It was very clean and well equipped. The host was welcoming and accommodating. The views are absolutely amazing. It is in a great central location. 20-30 minutes to many destinations in the area.
This property is among the very best rentals my family and I have stayed at. It is very clean (important to us), the host, Jeff, really couldn't be more helpful and the views are spectacular. We had the unexpected pleasure of being there to watch a blizzard outside our windows and that was really cool. Jeff stayed in contact with us during the blizzard to make sure we were okay (we were fine and happy the power stayed on) and as the storm wound down he came right over and cleared all the snow.
It's an easy 5 star rating here.
My husband and I came in for the weekend to meet up with our daughter and her husband. The house had everything we expected... a wonderful view, places for the family to sit and and enjoy the peace that comes from the sounds of the water rolling and out. We had everything we needed for a quiet weekend, the kitchen was nicely supplied with all sorts of gadgets, and the needed skillets, pots and such. We had board and card games which we played and books. The wifi worked without issue and of course we did use that as one of us had some business to attend to.
There are windows in every room showing the beautiful views and wonderful outdoor areas for sitting in. We watched sailboats, clam diggers, little kids and people that went out for a swim when it was in the 50s so many things to see right outside the door.
Really enjoyed our time
We came to Ipswich to attend our granddaughter’s graduation ceremony. Since we had 4 other adult relatives also wanting to attend, we decided to rent a house. We looked at several locations, but the house on the Great Neck shore really caught our eye. It minimized the driving time to the graduation festivities, looked roomy and offered many a scenic view from off the bed room porches. When we arrived, the owner personally checked us in. He mentioned that he lived right in the neighborhood, so if we ever had a problem or question, he was not far away and we had his phone number. We thought this was a splendid arrangement, however things went so well that we didn’t ever have to contact him.
The owner also had someone graduating and he sat a few rows in front of us at the graduation ceremony. He later texted us with photos of our granddaughter when she gave her speech. I thought that was a very nice thing to do.
Our party really enjoyed out stay, even though the weather eventually turned rainy and cool. We lit a fire in the fireplace and enjoyed that very much. It drafted very well and cleaning up the ashes afterwards was extremely easy. The owner had plenty of firewood for either the fireplace or the fire pit on the beach. I got a lot of comments from everyone concerning how well satisfied they were with the house. We used the kitchen a lot, and were very happy with it.
We would all be happy to rent this house again.
Our extended family lives in the Ipswich area, and the house was an ideal place for the out-of-towners to stay and the family to gather during the Thanksgiving weekend. Incredible sunrise over the water if you are up early enough, and it was wonderful to practically feel the pull of the tide and witness the wildlife in action out the big beautiful windows from every view. Our hosts were very kind and welcoming, and the house was clean and comfortable. Thank you!
The house was beautiful and was perfectly located on the beach. The fire pit was perfect to sit at and watch the ocean. We rode the train into Salem to learn about the witch trials and do some shopping. There is even a winery a little down the road. The food is amazing and the house is perfect for 5 of us to get away. Jeff, the contact for the property met us when we got there and already had a fire in the fireplace for us and was available if we needed anything. We would love to visit again and stay at this property.
All fantastic! Lovely family home to hold our reunion! Incredible views, clean home, all amenities you could want! We all would recommend this property for your get away!!!
Owner Jeff lives close and made it a point to reach out day prior to communicate and coordinate arrival, even offering an early check in if needed. He also personally greeted us to do a brief tour of the place and being a chilly, rainy day, even had a welcoming fire going in the fireplace. Jeff however was never obstrusive for the course of the stay, he respected our privacy.
The place was exceptional, from the amazing views of the bay, wildlife and boats, to the location (steps from the beach), to amenities, cleanliness, parking, etc. The stay could not have been better.
We've been in a lot of VRBOs, this one was a definite standout - highly recommended.
This was our favorite vacation! This home is perfect for families. We enjoyed time on the beach and by the fire pit. The location is perfect! Jeff makes sure you have a wonderful stay.
Myself, my wife and two other couples stayed for a long weekend to attend a nearby wedding and hit the beach. I can confidently say this is one of the best vacation homes I've stayed at. The home is nice and had everything we needed but more importantly the views and the beach access were perfect. There's a big yard for gatherings, a beautiful firepit and stairs right down to Pavilion Beach.
As for the hosts, Jeff was extremely helpful. He met us on the way in and the way out and even helped smooth things over when one of our guests accidentally entered a neighbor's home and used their facilities. It was great to hear about his family's connection to the location and to know he was nearby if we needed help.
All in all any time we're heading to Ipswich or nearby we'll consider returning. An excellent stay.
If you’re a fan of the beach, you truly can’t beat the location of this rental!!
My friends and I had the best weekend celebrating my wedding on the north shore! We used the rental property as home base for the groomsmen, and Jeff was the kindest host welcoming us with open arms. The house has so much great family history, picture perfect views from every room, large decks over looking the water, a grassy yard ideal for hanging in the sun, and steps from the beach. Can’t forget the fire pit! My wife and I hope to stay here again! Thank you Jeff, and the French family, for having us!
Perfection from beginning to end. That’s describes our idyllic vacation at Great Neck. Having grown up in Ipswich and now living in Newport we wanted this vacation to be a coming home and family celebration that would be memorable. Thanks to the gracious host Jeff and his sister Shirley it was all of that and more. They made us feel that their family home was our family home during our stay. The setting, views and private beach unmatched and the home with every attention to detail for our enjoyment.
Our Great Neck experience exceeded our expectations and we we will return next year and every year after.
Thank you Jeff, Shirley and family for allowing us the pleasure of your home.

This home perfectly situated on the beach in Ipswich was a little piece of heaven on earth! Wrap around windows provided for an amazing view. Falling asleep to hearing the waves made for the most restful nights sleep. Kitchen was stocked w all the essentials. Immaculately clean and very spacious. The owner was always available and helpful. This was our first VRBO and we will be back!
I stayed at this lovely home for a few days with a friend and it was just perfect in every way. The home was spotless top to bottom and it had everything you could possibly need. I cooked several meals and the kitchen was well stocked. There was plenty of wood and we had fires inside and out - the patio and fire pit is simply beautiful. I woke up to a gorgeous sunrise every morning and had my coffee outside to take in the beautiful views. The beach is literally steps away, the area is quiet, and our host, Jeff, was super friendly and always available. This home is so obviously loved and cared for - what a treasure!
Wonderful weekend getaway with my two young adult kids
The place is 100% as shown and explained. You can’t get closer to the water and the sunrises are incredible.
The home is very sweet, feels like visiting Nana’s house by the sea, and the family who owns it cares for the guests, the host was kind enough to light the fire in the living room to greet us when we arrived.
Cozy, comfortable and welcoming.
Beautiful setting. Great amenities. Well equipped kitchen. Wonderful indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Obviously a home well loved by it’s owners. Jeff was a super host!
To say that our time at Anchor Inn was lovely would be an understatement. We loved it and wish we were still there! My husband and I stayed there along with my older sister. She and I grew up outside of Boston in a large family and most of our siblings and their families still live in the area. We came out from the Midwest to attend a family wedding and to spend some quality time with everyone.
Jeff is truly a premier host, he met us at our arrival and was always ready to answer any questions we had along the way. We felt like family! The photos that are shown on the website are the real deal - gorgeous ocean views and more!!
The home was super clean, we had everything we could need and more. Several of my siblings stopped by during out stay and were amazed that we had found such a lovely place to stay.
If you are pondering whether or not to book this VRBO, we give a whole hearted "Do it!!" And we cannot wait to once again have the opportunity to come back!!
When we find such a delightful rental, we are reluctant to review, because we selfishly want to keep the rare find to ourselves. But this property owner deserves accolades for providing a vacation rental above and beyond the norm. Jeff met us at the house for check in, and gave us a tour in order to point out all the amenities. The place was well equipped with everything we needed, and Jeff told us more than once that if there was anything else we needed to be sure to let him know. He was immediately available the next day when we had a question about the fireplace and also to provide a replacement light bulb. The location is superb, with views of sunrise, tides, sea birds, swans, and clam diggers launching their boats. We very much enjoyed our winter getaway and hope to return to this beautiful spot.
