## Neighborhood
A few good spots in the area:
La Maison Harle, a delicious bakery offering a great variety of items. On Sunday mornings, be prepared to elbow your way in for fresh croissants. I’m a fan of their raspberry tarts and traditional breads, perfect for making delightful goat cheese and honey toasts.
Fromagerie MOF Didier Lassagne, one of our top 5 favorite cheesemongers in Lyon.
Traiteur/Boucher Vessière: Don’t feel like preparing lunch? Vessière’s ready-made meals are a great choice to take to the office and much better than a ready meal. Their verrines and starters are a treat, perfect for impressing guests!
Boucherie Barithel: High-quality products, excellent service, and great advice on meats and cooking methods. The paradise for meat lovers!
The area has plenty of chocolate spots, from Bouillet with its beautiful pastries, to Neuville and Voisin. Chocolate is great for the soul, so don’t skip it.
The Monplaisir Market is an institution. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are perfect for stocking up on fresh produce at Place Ambroise Courtois. On Wednesday evenings, I recommend the organic producer market, my favorite for quality products and great producers.
For a quick lunch, there are some inexpensive student spots along Avenue des Frères Lumières towards Grange Blanche (Les Burgers de Papa, Yaafa, and What’s that Food…). There's also Corep, a lifesaver for students.
While the area isn't particularly known for fine dining, I can recommend some places: L’Esprit Bistrot for great value and simple French cuisine, Kaffee Berlin for its famous currywurst and massive bagels, and for a romantic dinner, Marguerite. Not only is the building beautiful, but the setting is wonderful, and the food rivals the best, offering a taste of traditional French cuisine.
The terraces at Place Ambroise Courtois are perfect for enjoying a refreshing drink when the sun is out. I advise against eating there though, as the food is very industrial and overpriced.
The Cinématographe is located on Rue du Premier-Film, in the center of the Monplaisir neighborhood. It’s where the Lumière Brothers’ factory used to be, and you can still visit the Villa Lumière. You can enjoy the Lumière Festival every October or catch retrospectives and new films at the Institut Lumière throughout the year.
