Not enough stars
5 star rating isn't enough for this place, I need more stars!! Clean, VERY well kept, gorgeous property, and Mary is an absolute gem, polite, cordial, friendly... she brought me home made desserts and they were to die for!! The cabin was literally the cutest thing ever, the decorations were perfect, rustic and felt like home, could've melted into it really.... had a ridiculously huge "i love this so much!!!" grin on my face walking around looking at it. Mature trees surround the area, no city light pollution at night so you can see the stars, (even though it rained every day we were there it didn't put a damper on anything) the pasture with the crick running through, and the yearling cattle in the pasture made it a postcard picture. You can't get any better than this if you're looking for a place to really relax, and get away from traffic, the city, or big towns. Would definitely come here again, 110%!!!

Cyclists enjoyed the cabin
Our host showed genuine concern about our wellbeing. As we were biking to her place, she offered to pick us up if we needed to be “rescued “. The space heater was already operating when we arrived so it was comfortable within the cabin. There was homemade cookies waiting on the counter, which was a nice touch. My only suggestion to the host is to make clear that the bathroom is attached to the same cabin, but to get to it, you have to go outside and take about 6 steps to an adjacent door. The steps are covered by the roof of the deck. None of this was a problem for us. Just be aware of it.

Quiet Cabin
Quiet and quaint come to mind. Mary's 1860's cabin is exactly as the description and her photos indicate. The Milky Way was gorgeous all 3 nights of our stay. We were fortunate also to be there when the red raspberries were coming on strong and Mary invited us to take all we could eat! Tomatoes also from her veggie garden. The cows showed interest in us when we had the opportunity to sit on the front porch, but we didn't hear from them much in the nighttime hours. We'd rent again.

Charming cabin! Lovely setting!
We totally enjoyed the charm and care that Mary has brought into this old cabin. It has all the comforts one needs to relax and enjoy the bucolic setting. It wasn’t overdone but had neat decor in places you don’t expect. The bath is very short walk outside but that adds to the charm. And the shower is awesome and showing all the accouterments one needs in a bath. We were sad we had only one night available as it is worth a multi-night stay to unplug and relax on the cool back porch with a telescope!

Great little cabin
I couldn't be happier with Mary's little cabin! Highly recommended. We stayed there while biking the Elroy-Sparta trail. The cabin has all the amenities, done in very creative and appropriate ways (the bathtub is a cattle watering trough). There is even a telescope for those who want to enjoy the benefits of no light pollution! Plenty of space for two people. The bed is good quality, and is upstairs in its own little space. The place is very well-kept, very clean for a 100+ year old cabin. Will definitely stay again if we're back in the area.

Such a quaint little cabin!
My husband and I both came here for a night of rest after playing at Driftless Music Fest and the Hillsboro Tractor pull! The bed was comfy, the bathroom was amazing! It was cute, comfortable and all the open doors and windows made it a very relaxing and good sleep. Loved reading the history of the place in the morning! Thanks so much!

Fantastic quaint fronteer cabin with all the necessities. Perfect for minimalist getaway. If you are looking at this as an option, just book it. Mary is very nice and accommodating but not overbearing. Cows were friendly to say hi to and feed some grass. Will be back for a longer visit soon.

Grandpa’s Cabin
A bit smaller than Grandpa’s, but just what the pioneers built. Amazingly, the historical record is available on the old Singer treadle machine. The 3 bike trails were nearby, the stars shone brightly in the dark valley, and the weather perfect. Great visit!

Rustic relaxation in a serene setting
My stay was incredible. The cabin was rustic, unique and simple, but provided all the amenities needed. The location is perfect - just a short drive to Elroy, but you feel like you’re miles away from everything. I enjoyed coffee on the porch while watching the cattle graze and listening to the birds sing. I will be back next year and am planning to bring my bike. The only downside? I had to go home :)

Super stay
We stayed here because of the access to the 3 biking trails. Mary was a fabulous host. We greatly enjoyed our time sitting and discussing a myriad of topics. Fresh fruit and vegetables were quickly made available. Such a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. For you bikers, these are 3 great trails to enjoy.

Renovated pioneer cabin on farm
A really unique place. An original pioneer cabin, renovated, with a porch and bathroom addition in keeping with the spirit of the cabin. A great way to relax and get in touch with the past - and do some star gazing! Mary was very welcoming and left a plate of home made cookies, which the kids appreciated! Great stay.

4th generation on this farm. Good Norskie heritage, no longer milking (thank heavens). I just keep track of the heifers that stay here in the summer.

Why they chose this property

Near 3 Rails-To-Trails paths (Elroy-Sparta, 400, Omaha Trail). Quiet farm stay
