When you’re on vacation, sometimes it’s the little moments that make the sweetest memories: Grilling trout you reeled in yourself earlier that day, then eat it on the deck with your family as you watch the sunset over the Great Smoky Mountains. Savoring a midnight soak in the outdoor hot tub as the stars twinkle down and whip-poor-wills serenade. When you stay at Makin Memories, you can cherish just these sorts of moments—and much, much more.
Take a walk through the forest and on the 25 step entry walkway, constructed with intermittent landing spaces that will enable you to stop and enjoy the nature outdoors around you.
A 2-bedroom, 2-bath, 2-story log cabin perched on a hillside, Makin Memories offers something for everyone in your group to love. The upstairs game room, for instance, has both a pool table and a video console loaded with 60 classic games (Frogger, anyone?). The room also has a 39” flat-panel TV with satellite channels—one of 4 TV throughout the cabin. You won’t have to worry about your kids begging you to take them to an arcade; Makin Memories has everything they’d want, available 24/7.
The grownups are more likely to appreciate the hot tub on the rear deck. It will have been emptied, sanitized, and refilled prior to your arrival, so you can climb right in as soon as you arrive—and after your travels, you’ll really appreciate how its steamy, bubbling water eases your aching muscles and tired mind. If you’d prefer to soak indoors, the main floor’s bedroom includes a jetted tub—and of course, there are standard tubs in the 2 bathrooms, one on each floor.
With its cathedral ceilings, expansive windows, rustic decor, and well-cushioned seating, the living room is a delightful space to spend time. Curl up on the chaise with your tablet and take advantage of the free WiFi to email friends back home; stretch out on a couch with a stack of magazines; or make some popcorn, whip up some milkshakes (or margaritas), and gather everyone together for movie night. The living room is especially cozy in winter when the gas fireplace below the flat-panel TV warms up the entire space. Each TV in Makin Memories comes with a fire Stick for your streaming convivence.
Family meals might well be another highlight of your vacation. At home it’s often tough to corral everyone together, but now that you’re on vacation, here’s your chance! And while dining out is fun—and there are plenty of restaurants nearby in downtown Gatlinburg—sometimes nothing beats a home-cooked meal. Makin Memories’ open, fully equipped kitchen has all the appliances, cookware, and tableware you need, whether your idea of a home-cooked meal is a multicourse feast or soup and sandwiches. The dining table can accommodate 6 people and is large enough to pull double-duty as a game table once the plates have been loaded into the dishwasher. As an alternative, you can barbecue your dinner outside on gas grill, then partake at the deck’s picnic table.
The primary bedroom is on the main floor with the living/dining/kitchen area, and it’s truly sumptuous. Here’s where you’ll find the indoor jetted tub, along with a lofty king-size log-frame bed, a flat-panel TV, and a gas fireplace. The upstairs bedroom is nearly as luxe, with its own TV as well as a queen-size bed and even a reading nook. Also, you will have access to a full-size washer and dryer, you will be able to pack light.
The views of the mountains vary depending on the time of year. During the summer, the cabin offers greater privacy but the views are not as impressive. Conversely, in the winter months, the cabin provides stunning views, although there may be slightly less privacy since the trees are bare.
Makin Memories is a fantastic retreat that offers a multitude of fun activities right on its doorstep! Everything from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Dollywood, go-karts, bowling, skiing, zip-lining, whitewater rafting and golf courses can all be found in the area. Whether you're a thrill-seeker or looking for a relaxing getaway, Makin Memories has something for everyone. Plus, you can bring your furry friend along since the cabin is pet-friendly!
