Bridal shower
Stunning venue for an event or a family gathering. The color scheme of the place and decorations make it clear that no detail was overlooked in crafting this piece of paradise. The lighting during the day is gorgeous for pictures. Our guests were impressed by the beauty of the house and the manicured gardens. I also want to mention that the house is well stocked. It has everything you need for parties and making cakes (measuring cups/spoons, hand mixer, etc).

Adorable old farmhouse
Great location, gorgeous countryside setting, quiet and peaceful - we had a wonderful stay. Beds were comfy and the house was much roomier than expected. There are stairs required to get to every bedroom, so plan accordingly. The kitchen was fairly well stocked with glassware and cooking essentials, although a few of the nonstick pans need to be retired. This property would be a beautiful wedding venue for a smaller wedding.

Almost Heaven… Rock Spring Retreat!
I had been looking forward to this trip for a while since it was my bachelor party. The house and property exceeded my expectations and the expectations of my party. The house managed to retain its antique charm while still providing modern amenities. The lamps and some of the outlets had usb chargers, the rooms had wall mounted ac units and fans with remote controls, the bathrooms were updated and modern just to name a few things. There were plenty of beds and bathrooms for our 7 person party! The suites were fantastic and the sleeper sofas were extremely comfortable. The property was magnificent, tucked away and very well maintained. The fire pit and bistro lights were a favorite of mine and my friends. There was no pond like in the pictures but I was thinking they either drained it or it dried up as a seasonal pond might do. Other than that I can’t say enough about how beautiful the home and property both were. Thank you Tom & Walt!

Wonderful stay at Rock Spring Retreat
I rented this property for my daughter's bridal shower and it was the perfect venue. It easily accommodated the bridal party for the weekend and our family and friends for the shower festivities on Saturday. The property is beautiful and the house is such a treasure. It has all the modern conveniences while maintaining great historical character. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Beautiful property and renovated farm house
Our stay at Rock Springs was fabulous. The farmhouse is restored with emphasis on retaining the original beauty, upon arrival we were in awe as we walked and enjoyed the interior of the home. Each room warranted a pause and a smile. The exterior did not disappoint either; the pond , gardens and fire pit area were enchanting. We hope to return for future visits as the owners truly provided every amenity and touched base to ensure our stay was perfect.

Every Detail is perfect
Two families comfortably stayed for 3 nights. The kids loved running in the large yard and making s’mores at the fire pit. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. We cooked all meals there and nothing was missing. It’s beautifully decorated. Every detail is intentional and perfect. Can’t wait to go back again.

Perfect Weekend Getaway in the Country
This property is absolutely gorgeous! Tom & Walt went the extra mile renovating this beautiful farmhouse from the 1700's. They were more than welcoming and provided superb details about the property and nearby activities. This property is the prefect spot for that weekend getaway we all need to escape the busy "everyday life".

Perfect Weekend
Some family and friends went to celebrate a birthday and we had a wonderful time. There was more than enough room for 8 of us. Rock Spring is also close to the Bavarian Inn where we went for lunch and drinks on Saturday. It rained on and off, so we decided not to build a fire in the pit, but we did sit out at night when we could and enjoyed the circle of Adirondack chairs and string lights. I honestly have nothing but good things to say about our stay. The linens and towels were fresh, clean, and comfortable. We used the google home system to have music playing throughout the house. We loved learning about the property and enjoyed the decor. We would absolutely book another weekend here!

After 225 years as a private residence and working farmstead, Rock Spring has opened her doors to guests, welcoming them to escape, celebrate, and connect in the peaceful countryside of West Virginia. We hope you, too, can experience the magic of this special place.

As avid travelers and hosts, current owners Tom Clark and Walt Cain bring more than a decade of experience in hospitality and events to this gorgeous estate’s next chapter. We are excited to curate a special experience for you and help you build lasting memories at Rock Spring.

What makes this property unique

Rich in history, Rock Spring is embarking upon an exciting new chapter, welcoming contemporary generations to experience her charm.
Historically part of the Fairfax Land Grant by King Charles II of England in 1660, the property was conveyed to James Hendricks around 1762. Hendricks subdivided the large estate into three tracts for his children upon his death in 1795, formally establishing this historic farmstead. James Hendricks, Jr. built the original Rock Spring farmhouse and lived on this portion of the estate until 1831, when he sold the farm to John Snyder.

Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Snyder family added on to Rock Spring and built the Stone House and additional outbuildings, giving them their appearance today. The estate experienced dark days during the Civil War and Reconstruction, but was passed down through the Snyder family for generations until the current 12+ acres and buildings were sold in 1993.

The Rock Spring farmhouse and associated outbuildings were entered into the National Registry of Historic Places in 2007 by then-owner Stephen Skinner, who meticulously cared for the property until 2020.

The buildings feature a number of rare architectural details, including hand-carved fireplace mantelpieces, unique staircases, and a highly unusual “squirrel-tail” bake oven. The grounds include a geometric boxwood garden, a seasonal pond, and acres of pastures.
