About this property

Two Story Cabin in the City

Please feel free to contact us about future plans for spring and summer. We discount any repeat guest.

Discounts: Rent any three days from Sunday or Monday and get the Fourth day free. Also
Special weekly and monthly (any 28 day period) prices.

The space: Cozy space with 'country-elegance' in the city and near Texas Tech. You will find a book of local independent businesses, all this in a very central location that makes Lubbock's landmarks very accessible.

Featuring comfortable couches and cozy cloth recliners that are great for a relaxing nap by the fireplace with a unique stone exterior, easy for elderly parents to join in.

It is a delightful room wjth a 25 foot ceiling in the center for meeting friends and family in comfort, just as if you were vacationing in a Ruidoso Cabin.

We ask two adults present if there are children between 2-6; but we have a nice crib with full hypo-alergenic sheets and blankets with extras for changing.

ASK ABOUT HOLIDAY PRICES. ($175/d) for 4 to 7 day over Thanksgiving and Christmas-New Years.

Also for Vrbo guests only - Arrive SUNDAY and Leave FRIDAY? $85/d. have to ask though.

Make, or order in, a semi-formal meal in a decorated dining space. Perhaps light a fire for a quiet experience or a comfy breakfast warmed by our second small fireplace in the dining room. Walk up a striking spiral staircase next to a bright corner of tropical plants to small office at the landing. Stocked with, pens, small notepads, tape, stapler, scissors and ruler, this well lighted space is a perfect place to get a little privacy if one of your group has to complete some work.

The office is the annex to a private one bedroom second floor apartment with its own sitting space, bed and bathroom, and decorated with the feel of old west charm.

Meet your group outside for an afternoon siting or an evening around a fire pit under a cedar pergola, Picnic table and four person couch, with a four burner gas grill.

Or visit the Lantern four blocks away for a refreshing drink on their garden patio or, better yet, for their well-known Sunday brunch.

Built by one person over 20 years, part of the charm of the house are the little oddities from shake shingles along the dining room wall to the spectacular collection of rare and diverse stones used to frame the living room fireplace. There’s the occasional odd placement of light switches, which we have labeled for you to light your way.

On entry is the kitchen and dining room which leads to the living room and then the back porch sitting areas. To the right of the Kitchen is a hallway to the first-floor bathroom and two bedrooms - with a king and queen sized bed.

The bathroom has a very nice, lighted shower with floor to ceiling glass, and small seat for the weary. While we are not wheelchair accessible, the elderly couple who owned this home had installed several handles to assist rising in order to navigate the bathroom easy and safely

Finally, the back porch is nicely furnished, including a two person sitting table. Just the spot to enjoy breakfast or a second cup of coffee. There is very dry pinion pine, oak wood and in the back to use for the fireplace or pit.

Needless to say, this is not a party house. Rather, it is a daytime gathering place, great for families with life events such as weddings and graduations. You have found a very accommodating space to celebrate important life passages.

The Neighborhood:

The cabin sits in a 1960s and 70s neighborhood of modest sized homes just south of a larger high school and near the older commercial corner of 34th street and Slide Road. The city grew South and West from this point, which makes the neighborhood a quiet yet central location to Texas Tech (my commute is 12 minutes and that's with morning traffic). and the newer shopping centers along Slide Road.

The neighborhood is only three blocks from the crosstown highway (Marsha Sharp Freeway) and near the loop, making the location a very easy central position to get to almost any landmark quickly and without having to navigate a lot of unfamiliar surface roads.

Our Guest book includes information from some of the more notable local independent establishments: from restaurants to clothing repairs and alterations. All important when family events demand or the closest walk-in clinic is needed. We even have a place to repair your phone if the glass breaks, which has happened more often than you think to guests as they bounce about town.

A few amenities and rules:

Got to Lubbock and your Luggage Didn’t?

There is a basic hygiene kit in the downstairs bathroom in sealed plastic bag that contains a new toothbrush, paste, floss, and a razor. Please do not use or remove these for the sake of other visitors. They are for emergencies only, and if you use them please let us know.

Please treat our home about the way you would on a visit to your mother, rather than a hotel. We will make sure it’s clean and in good order, but leave what would be needed for other guests. In this vein, we provide a few shampoo choices in each bathroom and soap dispensers plus new towels and washcloths (washed always replaced new regularly).

For your convenience, there is also a WASHER AND DRYER. Instructions are straight forward. We really wash our linens; so be careful, our machines take a little bit longer than average in order to assure both the comfort and safety of our guests.

We also stock the kitchen to be more conducive to a full kitchen, unlike the large majority of B&Bs with the full kitchen. These kitchen items, just like cleaning supplies, towels and bathroom supplies take time to replace, so avoid a fee and be considerate of our next guests and of us.

Safety:

There is a kitchen smoke alarm and an extinguisher under the sink. There is also a small first aid kit in the kitchen for simple needs. We ask people to respect these items and not remove them (taking a fire extinguisher is an especially unwelcome outcome).

We replaced a dangerous and unsightly stairway right after we bought it.. we now have an attractive spiral stairway to the upstairs apartment. Two safety rules apply here:

First, the house is designed for adults seeking restful and elegant country comfort as a get away or for family passage events.

Secondly, no one should walk up or down the stairs in socks. So, we have two sizes of slippers at the bottom of the stairs. If you forget, they are there for your safety.

Children from toddlers to six years old really should be watched on the stairs. It is still very easy to have fun at our house..

Also, we have two sets of child locks available in the cabinet next to the refrigerator. We keep most things in storage but we have some cleaning material for any visiting gourmet and in the bathroom under the sinks. Call me if you have trouble for any reason

Getting in:

There is on site covered parking for two cars and off-street parking. If you arrive at night, two motion lights will guide you.

There is a key lock – an easy four-digit code that changes with each guest. There is a picture of it labeled elock. It has to be used to enter; but also remember to enter the code when you leave as that is needed to lock the door. I will send you your code the day you are due to arrive, or occasionally, the day before if I am answering questions for you.

I’m one block away. Please call if there is trouble of any kind. We are happy to do all we can to assist you in having the best stay possible in our Casaita and in Lubbock.

Checking Out

If not too much trouble, could you please complete the following. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Lubbock and that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the near future.

Strip the beds of the top sheet and the fitted sheet and, if not too difficult, the pillow cases; and then leave in one pile by the bed in each bedroom.

Collect all the towels and leave in one pile.

Put all the trash in bags and place outside the back door. There is a 25 gallon can at the back door, and a full plasyoc garbage can just behind the patio fence near the rear building.

Please load the dishwasher with dirty dishes, mostly to store them and prevent possible pests until we wash them.

While you are responsible for real damage, we know an occasional glass or dish will break. Please let us know, though

You will enjoy our house. We worked very hard to get it right, and we enjoy this work.

Please be sure to lock the door on your way out.

AND…Only because it has happened before, and we would hate to have to charge you for anything else. Please be sure that you only leave with the items you brought and anything that was in the house when you arrived remains in the house. Thanks again for visiting. Safe travels!

What a fun place to stay in Lubbock!
We were passing through Lubbock and saw this listing. It is everything it says it is. The place is super spacious, funky (in a great way) and downright comfortable. The beds are all huge and comfortable. There is a spiral staircase and a few levels to the house so just be aware of that. We loved all the levels, nooks and crannies to explore. The owner is so thoughtful and has coffee and quick breakfasts and snacks available. I wasn't expecting that. He was also super responsive and helpful. It was hot so we didn't get a chance to check out the outdoor seating areas or the fireplace inside. I imagine in the fall and spring the outside would be a great place to hang out and in the winter, the two HUGE loungers in front of the fireplace would be the ideal place to relax. Our only regret is that we only had one day to hang out here! If you are looking for something that Isn't your standard sterile hotel/motel, this is it!

Weekend in Lubbock
The location of the home was excellent; it was near major roads, restaurants and shopping areas and only about 15 min from the airport. The house/cabin is unique and the decor is definitely eclectic! The fireplace in the den is simply awesome! The house is in an older Lubbock neighborhood. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
