Our second visit. Loved it in every way. Right across the river from Camp La Junta, we found afternoons to be especially nice as the campers were not on the water. This was a perfect way to relax and renew.
Private, spacious rock house in peaceful surroundings.
The rope swing, floating island, kayaks and fishing filled our days with enjoyment. Will return.
We live in Camp Verde and travel to and through Hunt often but have never stayed at Pigeon Roost. After months of watching everything turn brown from the drought and watching our own large pond on our property get lower and lower this was absolute paradise!! We have always loved Hunt and this is exactly what my husband needed for his birthday! It was so peaceful and so nice to unwind and recharge. The home and property are “Quintessential Hunt” which is exactly what we love! We love the antique furniture, original rock walls etc… It was so nice to have a well stocked home for cooking and entertaining. I woke up every morning and enjoyed coffee in the swing while watching the wildlife on the river and then started the day with a short yoga session down by the water in the beautiful St. Augustine grass. We have an exchange student from Italy staying with us for the school year and we were so excited to share with her this Hill Country History and fun on the river despite the drought. We enjoyed chatting with the neighbors as they swam or canoed by and we enjoyed several kayak trips ourself. The only thing I would say the home needs is a set of Dominoes. We brought one with us and really enjoyed several games of 42 in the Sun room at the card table. Thank you SO much for sharing your beautiful home!
We loved our stay here. A few minor blips were managed perfectly without any issue. Great communication. Kayaks were great. Water was perfect. Home was charming. Note all but 2 beds are twin size. Not a big deal just something to note. We especially loved the big upstairs bedroom with bathroom, 5 twin beds and 1 full size bed. The room is all wood and has amazing river views(no photos of this room in the listing). We nicknamed it the bunk house. Feels like summer camp. The apartment off the garage was used for 1 night only. It’s not the same charm as the main home. But can work in a pinch. The kitchen is well appointed we cooked every meal, even baked pies and bread during our stay. Note on the gas grill it has a regulator so trick to light, but figured it out. The hammock was a perfect place to nap and read. Inner tubes and Kayaks were excellent for daily adventures on the river. Another note it is directly across the river from Camp La Junta, opening day was a bit loud, but otherwise not major. We found between 2-4 was a pretty quiet time on the river once the campers were there and they turn in early. We hope to make this an annual tradition. Perfect river home. Six stars if we could.
