If it’s (heated/air-conditioned) glamping you're after, you can’t find anything better than the Treetops' Dune Buggy cottage. Decked in vintage sophistication, this studio-style, open-concept living space has a screened-in porch to die for.
Plus, an outdoor shower, wood-burning fireplace, and amazing views of the Saugatuck dunes and woodland. Did we mention there’s a bar?

The Treetop’s unique, vintage cottages come with a spectacular location. Perched on top of a 50-foot dune, the complex is positioned directly across the lake from downtown Saugatuck. As the primary means of access to Lake Michigan, the harbor is perpetually full of boats, music, and other fun sights.
It’s also a short 15 minute dune hike (or 2-minute drive) to award-winning Oval Beach, named in Condé Nast Traveler’s Top 25 Beaches in the World, National Geographic Traveler’s Top Freshwater Beaches in the USA, and MTV’s Top 5 Beaches in the USA.

Dining in the Dune Buggy is as rustic as the cottage. Outside, your experience is elevated by a gas grill and plenty of outdoor seating. The inside kitchenette features a coffee pot, microwave, sink, cooktop, and mini fridge/freezer.

On the large screened-in porch, sprawl out on the L-shaped couch, grab a bevy from the bar, and enjoy nature protected from the bugs. A private powder room is located off one side of the queen-sized bed, but if it’s a shower you’re after, you’ll find it outside, tucked behind a rustic, wooden facade. Nature-living at its most luxurious.

This studio-style living space is packed with sophistication and hand-picked amenities. Entering the cottage, you’ll find a living space with dining table and wood-burning stove and a bedroom tucked neatly behind a corner.

THE DETAILS

The Dune Buggy cottage is decked in vintage sophistication, making this studio-style living space the quaintest kind of lovely escape. Enjoy the wood-burning fireplace, outdoor shower and amazing views of the Saugatuck dunes and woodlands. You’ll never go back to glamping once you revel in the Lux.

Perfect Getaway

The dune buggy cottage was absolutely perfect for a weekend getaway. The “vibe” was perfect for a relaxing weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The screened in porch was our favorite, drinking our morning coffee , listening to the bird chirping, watching deer and wild life was the perfect way to start our mornings. Our host Erica was amazing, she helped with any questions we had almost immediately. If you like the outdoorsy feel with being actual inside BOOK this place now! We will definitely be back!

Surprise trip

The Buggy is so awesome! I surprised my wife with a last minute trip to Saugatuck. We had a great time enjoying the hot tub surrounded by trees. Even used the outdoor shower, plenty of hot water for us. The refrigerator and stovetop were adequate but clothes storage is lacking. We walked to the beach, took the chain ferry when possible and walked and shopped and ate. I enjoyed sitting in the screened porch and listening to the sounds of partying. We will check availability when we decide on our next visit. Great location, better once road construction is complete. Additionally, if you want to drive to the oxbow and crow’s nest trails take Park road towards and past Mt Baldhead Steps and continue through the subdivision to get to the trailheads. Disregard the “do not turn around in driveways signs” , there are many places to turn around without offending a “homeowner “.

way below expectations

unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the accommodations. It did indicate that there was an outdoor shower. However, we did not realize it was the only shower also, the shower curtain was half ripped off the shower stall itself with only two sided, leaving one open side to the neighbors and had large cobwebs in it and indicated we would be able to share a hot tub and a fire pit with other residents which would’ve been fine except that the hot tub was on the other person‘s deck, and the fire pit was outside the other persons side door, which would’ve been very rude to participate in it indicated that the hot water heater was small. There was less than two minutes of hot water for each shower and they had to be spaced about 45 minutes apart as an insurance person I would say that the steps leading to the location along with the railing or an extreme liability hazard, the railing itself was weak at best , the fireplace had loose rocks and sand around the bottom of it, which made it a hindrance also . there were two space heaters one worked great one was pointless. The city of Saugatuck Oval Beach in the surrounding areas will bring us back.

Quiet, quaint, and surprisingly spacious.

Quaint, quiet, spacious cabin with enjoyable partial wrap around porch/living room. Outdoor shower could use a wider curtain ring to provide room to move nonetheless it was a unique experience. Access to retail/restaurants is not within walking distance unless the nearby chain ferry is operational (to which the walk is a precarious one as the road offers no shoulder). Otherwise, plan to drive to Oval Beach or downtown Saugatuck. Overall, a delightful, albeit somewhat rustic, stay.

Absolutely awesome!

Had an excellent time. The property was exactly as described and exactly what we were looking for. So peaceful and unique! Two little baby fawns walked up to the screened in porch area as we were drinking coffee the morning that we left.

Great spot close to everything

We really loved this cabin! We were refreshed by the large screened windows which opened up to enjoy plenty of fresh air throughout the day. We were charmed by the wood-burning stove which kept us nice and toasty warm through the brisk fall evening. We relaxed in the bubbling waters of the hot tub. We were invigorated by the quick one-mile hike to Oval Beach. We were stuffed after visiting the wonderful restaurants of downtown Saugatuck. We were delighted by the thoughtful attention of our host, Erica, who did everything to make our experience the best it could possibly be! Absolutely would recommend and look forward to booking this or any of Erica’s properties for future stays. Thank you!

Perfectly relaxing

Communication with host was excellent . Any issues we had were taken care of without hesitation. A great relaxing time for my wife and I. We would recommend to anyone. .a stones throw to town , the chain ferry didn’t seem to be running much( probably having trouble getting workers) so the local busses worked great 1$ each person each way)

Cottage getaway

Cottage was super cute and perfect for two! We loved our visit there. The shower needed to be cleaned up better with more hot water for two to shower. The floor was also sandy felling so a broom and dustpan would have helped greatly.

About the host

Host profile image
Our family has been visiting the Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan area most of our life. We hold a million sepia-colored memories in our heads. As Chicagolanders, we escape suburbia for the dunes, beaches, and woodlands of the Lake Michigan shoreline every chance we get.

We enjoy the area so much that I thought others should too. At a time when the town was still quiet and homey, I started on a journey of building true vacation destinations that are unique from anything you would find in suburbia, true cabins that drive relaxation and escape.

With no appetite for owning or managing rundown, churn-n-burn properties, we prefer to focus on high-end vacation homes with incredible amenities. In order to deliver value to our guests, the properties themselves became more than places to stay, they became experiences. Providing an experience is a combination of a unique property, different than anything our guests have at home, quality in-house amenities, unique exterior amenities such as location, and on-property activities such as jacuzzi, pools, and fire features. Finally, the experience is topped off with special treatment and high-attention from the management company (quite literally, us).

Someone once told me, “After kids, you don’t go on vacation. You visit places.” I didn’t want that for Lakewood Lux. I wanted to make each property family-friendly with the comforts of home. We splurge on high-end items like kitchen appliances, pots and pans, serveware, linens and towels to ensure a guest experience that is like or better than home. Then, we make sure all the amenities are maintained by professionals. Folks work hard to earn their vacations, and I wanted to ensure their visits were pleasantly clean, comfortable, and fun, because that’s what I would want.

Revel in The Lux.
