My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Black Bear Cabin. The cabin and Michigan did not disappoint. The cabin was beautifully located in a scenic area yet close to many sightseeing activities. I highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a cabin getaway!
Nice private setting cabin but still close enough to the city for shopping and activities. The path that goes around portage lake is nice for walking and biking and leads right down to the community park and beach. Overall nice place to get away from it all.
We are so lucky to have found Black Bear Cabin for our stay in the Keweenaw! It is perfect the perfect spot for relaxing, secluded but close to everything the area has to offer. The cabin is old and rustic, but clean and cozy. It brought back happy memories of the log cabin my family stayed in during childhood vacations. Thank you, Kriss and Ray!

We really enjoyed out stay at the cabin! Its location is close to Houghton and the rest of the Keweenaw! It's surrounded by woods that makes it feel so private, yet it's close to neighbors and to Chassell. The kitchen is small, but suited our needs! The cabin was cozy and comfortable! Kriss, the hostess, was fantastic! She was extremely accommodating! We loved our stay!
This is such a nice little out of the way location, that is close to shopping as well. Kris was amazing with communication, even though I threw my phones in a waterfall. Highly recommend, we will stay again given the opportunity.
It was a beautiful cabin and so comfy. There was so much to do around us, and any questions we had they answered. I definitely recommend staying here. Beautiful scenery.
We had a great experience at Black Bear Cabin - came up for Michigan Tech hockey camp and the drive was a short from the cabin ti the college. Only enhancement I can think of it to add a washer and dryer but other than that worked perfectly for our stay.
The cabin was exactly what we expected. Great location to explore the area with beautiful scenery. Our stay was super convenient and the cabin was comfortable with sufficient WiFi to work from "home."
The fall colors were spectacular! The cabin is cozy, and Kriss went far above and beyond in communicating and helping when we had car problems. I would highly recommend this property!
The cabin was very cute and cozy. We enjoyed using the fireplace and sleeping in the loft. While we had to be careful to catch the right driveway - their instructions for finding it were perfect. Everything we wanted to do was easily accessible and we still got to feel away from it all. Excellent stay and hope to return.

Beautiful setting, close to everything.
Black Bear Cabin was very clean, comfortable and close to all of the wonderful sights the Kewenaw has to offer. The beautiful setting was enhanced by the wildlife just outside the windows, there were fawns eating just off the deck. I would recommend this cozy cabin if you are planning a trip to copper country.
We loved our stay here! It was a warm cozy cabin perfect for a fall getaway! The only thing that I was confused is seeing the listing and on Google Maps it looks like it is right on the lake, it is across the road. Otherwise the cabin was set up well, we had plenty of room, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Twas like a visit into our past, with the comforts of the present. We had a relaxing and pleasant two weeks to enjoy the wonders of nature and the character of this property. The owners were very accommodating taking care of our every need. The convenience of being 5 minutes from the boat launch topped it all off. Great place!
We loved staying at the Black Bear's cabin. The place has a wonderful feel, feels secluded and is in a great location. As avid bikers we loved having a trail next to us and amazing mountain bike trails only a few minutes away. Kriss is a wonderful host and the communication and checking was as simple and smooth as it gets. We would love to stay again.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful week at Black Bear Cabin, which is close to the great natural sights of the Keweenaw and near the city of Houghton. Kriss and Ray were great hosts, very helpful and quick with communication. And the cabin itself was quaint, clean and well-appointed. There is some road noise from U.S. 41, but cabin itself is tucked in the woods and feels very private. A great home base for anything the Keweenaw has to offer.

Relaxing Fall Weekend on the Keweenaw
This cabin is a cozy little rustic retreat that is nestled in a mature forest overlooking a little creek and the Portage. We enjoyed a long weekend on the Keweenaw and would love to stay again in the future. Beautiful fall colors this weekend! We wish it was available for MTU graduation in the spring. We will keep it in mind for a summer trip.

Cute cabin, noisy street
We stayed for a quick visit with a college family member. Cabin is very clean, and worked for me and my husband for the few days. Communication with host was great, we even adjusted our travel plans due to timing and we’re offered a night to make up for not making it there on original check in. Traffic outside the cabin was unexpected , and noisy. Bathroom was hard to navigate in/out with the ladder to the bunk above. Not much space to put your luggage. Again, it worked for the two nights we stayed and was close to the campus/main attractions.
For our 42nd anniversary, we decided to explore the Keweenaw Peninsula (instead of just saying, "Yes, Michigan Tech is in Houghton.") We drove the west coast ribbon road to Copper Harbor, toured Quincy Mine and Foundry, spent more time than expected at the Seaman Museum of Minerals and Gems at Michigan Tech, and hiked Estevan Pines. Each night, we came home to a cozy cabin for dinner and Scrabble. An excellent week, all told.

Ray is an IT Systems Engineer at Calumet Electronics and a part-time photographer. Ray Bosley has a degree in Computer Science from Michigan Technological University. We are both Copper Country natives, love the area and its beauty. Our daughter Gabby is 15 years old.
Why they chose this property
We purchased the log cabin from a friend who now resides outside of the U.S. We always loved the cabin and its cozy feel. When our friend decided it was time to sell, we jumped at the chance to own such a beautiful property and have never looked back. Our guests have often commented how the cabin feels like it's in the country, but is only a mile to Chassell or ten minutes to Houghton.
What makes this property unique
Cozy, quiet, peaceful. The location and decor of this cabin instantly relaxes us. We also love fires in the beautiful stone fireplace and relaxing around the outdoor fire pit.
