About this property
Large family-friendly home near EVERYTHING - privacy, space, & parking!
Perfect for groups or families, the home is located in DC's historic Cleveland Park neighborhood. With terrific charm, convenience, and access to everything DC has to offer -- great public and private schools, easy access to public transit/metro, and a national park for your backyard. If you need even more space, the separate 3-room/1-bath basement level 'in law' suite is available for additional fee. The property is available for 2-6 month stays, thereafter more 'traditional' lease terms considered.
LOCATION: Located on a quiet side street off Connecticut Avenue, the house is a 5-minute walk to the Red Line Cleveland Park metro and amenities, including groceries, restaurants, bars, cafes, a Target store, library, post office, Saturday farmer's market, etc. The home's 'backyard' is Rock Creek National park - explore via the marked walking trails that meander through mature tree canopy - the trailhead is steps from the front door. The private driveway alongside the house provides easy off-street parking for one car.
LAYOUT: The home's MAIN LEVEL features an open and flexible living/dining area with a cook's kitchen, large counter-height breakfast bar (seats 5+), and high-end stainless appliances, including 6-burner dual-fuel stove. The open floor plan provides lots of room to socialize and flows into additional living/dining and social space. Expansive sliding doors provide incredible year-round views and open onto the rear exterior deck/sitting area.
The SECOND LEVEL has 3 bedrooms: a front bedroom (Queen) with ensuite bathroom (custom marble shower); a middle bedroom (DOUBLE/FULL), and a large rear bedroom (QUEEN) with stunning views of the park. All 3 bedrooms have real closets. The hallway bath's huge custom glass shower has two rain-shower heads, a double vanity, and a bright skylight. The full-size LG washer/dryer laundry center is tucked next to a large hallway linen closet.
The THIRD LEVEL is a large bedroom (TWIN) that may also serve as playroom, office, or guest space.
OUTDOOR spaces: hospitable front porch, a rear deck on the main level. If you choose to add the basement in-law suite, the rear separate entrance to this suite has a large covered brick patio.
PARKING: The driveway is located alongside the house (no need to contend with a rear alley). There is parking for ONE car at the TOP of the driveway. Driveway and back patio are permeable brick pavers. If the in-law suite is NOT open
SCHOOLS: The home is located within walking distance of its assigned in-boundary D.C. public elementary school (Hearst Elementary) and various private schools (Washington International School, Burke, Sidwell, Whittle School). It's just a bit further to the in-boundary Deal Middle School (Alice Deal MS) and high school (Jackson Reed HS). Other private schools in close proximity including Maret, St. Albans, National Cathedral, Georgetown Day. UDC and Howard Law are within short walking distance. American University, George Washington, and Georgetown are quick rides on bike/public transit.
RECREATION: A ten-minute walk from the house, Hearst playground features play structures for a range of ages, including a fenced off area for younger children and small turf field. In addition, the Department of Recreation manages new outdoor public pool, tennis courts and huge multi-use field.
PUBLIC LIBRARY: Beautifully renovated Cleveland Park library is an extensive community resource within easy walking distance (7 minutes).
No smoking on or in property. Pets on case-by-case basis (a deposit and an additional move-out anti-allergen cleaning fee will be applied).
AVAILABILITY: The calendar reflects earliest possible availability of January 31, though this might slip to Saturday February 2, 2024.
In-LAW SUITE: The separate fully-furnished suite is accessible by a private rear exterior basement-level door and/or dual-locked interior staircase. The unit is available for additional fee (see also the listing for 6 bedroom). If guest forgoes opportunity to include in agreement, Owner shall manage/use basement unit and its adjoining patio as a separate unit, accessible via common driveway.

About the host
Hosted by Jen Poirier
Since moving to DC from New England over twenty years ago, our family has lived in a variety of DC neighborhoods. Alongside 'day jobs', we became experienced home renovators, property managers and landlords. With school-age kids, we purchased and thoughtfully renovated this house to someday be our 'forever' home. Until then, we are pleased to share the comfortable, convenient, and unique house with others.
Why they chose this property
The house is a unique blend of many contrasts: new and old, city and country, comfort and elegance.
