About this property

OCEANFRONT. Newly renovated. Amazing views of dolphins and sunsets. No stairs.

RIGHT ON THE WATER in one of Kailua-Kona's most sought after complexes! This open and spacious, 2-bedroom condo has a spectacular, 180-degree, Kona coastline and ocean view. From the private lanai, watch spinner dolphins as you savor your morning Kona coffee. Later, experience a beautiful sunset after a fun day exploring the island or enjoying the beautiful oceanside pool and hot tub. The location is convenient to historic downtown restaurants and shops, and many popular island activities.

This condo is the largest of the Sea Village 2-bedroom floor plans at almost 1000 square feet. Guests enjoy the roomy and open kitchen/dining/living area with ocean views, but especially love watching dolphins, whales (Dec-Mar), and fish just off the lanai. As new owners in 2021, we are continuing to make upgrades. Extensive renovations were just completed, including new flooring, windows, cabinets, countertops, en suite bathroom, and more.

We've ensured the unit is equipped with everything you need to enjoy a wonderful vacation in paradise, including wifi, a well-stocked kitchen, extra toiletries, full-sized washer and dryer, a new 55" television, and beach gear. The no-stairs entry is helpful for transporting luggage or bikes, or for those with mobility concerns.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms:
The master bedroom has a California King mattress and an en suite bathroom that's been upgraded to a tile walk-in shower. The second bedroom has a queen bed and the guest bath with walk-in shower is just steps away. Both bedrooms have ample closets and dressers for storage and are cooled by the breezes and fans.

Grounds:
The grounds of Sea Village are lush and well-maintained. The beautiful pool and hot tub are centrally located and oceanside. Just behind the pool is a large common area with BBQ's area for grilling. There is also a popular, privately-owned coffee, sandwich and smoothie shop on the property.

Other things to note:
No A/C?!
Sea Village condos were constructed without A/C and because of our proximity to the ocean we have not installed an external air conditioning system in our unit. This condo will be warmer than other condos with A/C, and may not be for you if you like a cold environment. But, because it is located right on the ocean, the trade winds usually help to keep the unit very comfortable. We also have ceiling and portable fans in each room. After sunset, the mauka (mountainside) breeze typically develops and helps cool the bedrooms overnight if the windows are open. However, if you are concerned about the heat during warmer months of the summer and early fall, we were recently approved to have a portable A/C unit set-up in the living room (the room that gets all the afternoon sun and heat). Between May 1st and November 1st, if you would like to have the A/C unit set up there will be an additional fee of $20/night (just to cover Hawaii's exhorbitant electricity costs). Please note: the portable A/C unit is only able to cool the common living space (living area and kitchen) during the afternoon/evening and is not to be run overnight as it is not rated to cool the bedrooms. Please request the portable A/C when making your reservation, or at least four days prior to your arrival, otherwise there will be a $50 call-out fee to set it up during your stay.

Travel Insurance:
We STRONGLY recommend "cancel for any reason" travel insurance for our guests. We hope you understand, that as an individual owner, we cannot take on the role of travel insurer so will only provide refunds in line with the VRBO cancellation policy. If you would like to be eligible to receive a refund beyond the percentages specified relative to your check-in date for issues such as health or family emergencies, flight changes or cancellations, volcanic eruptions that do not threaten the condo, work schedule changes, the potential for reduced air quality, and more, please purchase coverage from your favorite travel insurer. (We've had requests for refunds for almost all these reasons from guests who didn't purchase coverage.)

Winter Waves
A couple of times a winter the waves gets big enough that they break against the sea wall and the spray can shoot rather spectacularly (and forcefully, but not dangerously) toward our lanai and front windows. If the forecast indicates that this may occur during your stay, we will message you with a request to make sure that the oceanfront windows are locked closed and to bring the lanai furniture inside for the duration of the high surf, typically not more than a day. If you don't feel comfortable bringing the furniture inside, we will coordinate with our on-island manager to come take care of it.

Don't be alarmed!
There is a monthly practice tsunami warning alarm, typically on the first business day of every month at 11:45 a.m.

What's that sound?
The Sea Village complex was built without air conditioning. As a consequence, it is an open windows community. The ocean waves are audible throughout the unit, but less so in the bedrooms. Most find the sound soothing, but if you need complete silence when sleeping, this may not be the location for you. In addition, you may hear the occasional coqui frog after dark. This is an invasive species that is actively exterminated so it is not common. Additionally, the living portion of the unit faces the ocean to maximize enjoyment of the view, which means the bedrooms are on the same side of the building as the parking. Everyone's windows are open, so we encourage guests to be quiet when coming and going and when talking or taking calls in the bedrooms. You will, inevitably, hear some guests move their luggage down the stairs or talk a bit too loudly on their way in/out during quiet hours. We hope the pleasant sounds outweigh the others. Happily, road noise is not a problem.

Construction:
Construction at the Sea Village complex or areas surrounding the condo is beyond our control. We do not offer refunds, relocations, or discounts for construction. If there is excessive noise beyond normal working hours (typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays), we will attempt to contact the construction site manager regarding working hours.

Bugs:
Some bugs are part of living in the tropics and can be present in even the cleanest accommodations. Therefore, routine insect spraying is part of life in the tropics. If treatment is scheduled during your stay, a notice will be posted in advance. Remove garbage regularly, store all food in containers, and keep screens closed. If you do notice insects, please let us know and we'll have extra treatment done on the next monthly treatment cycle. Infestations will be treated ASAP.

Reality check.
We work to make our unit a beautiful, comfortable, place for your vacation, but we know the most spectacular parts of your visit will be the ocean, the island, wildlife, and Hawaiian culture.

We recently purchased our unit as our dream getaway. We have updated many things as time, resources, and renovation restrictions permit. We hope you'll love all the extras we provide and accept any little quirks that come with staying in our place rather than in a cookie-cutter hotel room.

As oceanfront as it gets!

We completely enjoyed our stay. Property was as comfortable as it was beautiful. Owner responded to all requests or needs promptly and professionally. We wouldn't hesitate to book again while on the Big Island.

Vacation

We spent two lovely weeks in this beautiful condo. We walked the one mile into Kona every morning and loved that it was close enough to walk. We had a million dollar view of the ocean where we saw whales and dolphins. Condo was equipped with everything you needed and we were pleasantly surprised that you really didn’t need air conditioning, the ocean breeze kept it very comfortable! Appreciated sharp knives and good pans in the kitchen which we haven’t had in many condos we rent. We were a little worried about the rooms being off the parking lot but we had no problems with noise. It was a lovely property.

Gorgeous and spacious oceanfront condo

My husband and I stayed at this condo for four weeks and had a blissful time. Our daughter visited us from Osaka, Japan, for nine days. The apartment is very tastefully furnished, spacious, and very well organized. Many properties in Sea Village are older. This one is newly renovated and is very clean. The kitchen has everything you need, and everything is new: good quality pots, pans, plates, etc... It does make a difference. The beds are very comfortable, and the bedding is of high quality. (I'll try to find and buy the sheets we had there for myself. They are soft and stylish) The condo felt like a home away from home. We spent hours on the lanai, drinking coffee or sipping wine, watching dolphins in the morning (use the binoculars!), and sunsets in the evening. The location is also fantastic. Kona and all restaurants are within short walking distance, and perfect snorkeling places are a short drive away. Alii Dr. is ideal for morning walks. Cathy was a great host. Always there for you. There were not too many rules, and everything made perfect sense. We will be happy to stay at this gorgeous place in the future.

Excellent!

Family of two parents & one teen son. This place was perfect. We had everything we needed, including beach gear, a cooler, and snorkel masks to have fun around the island. When we didn’t want to pay to park, it was easy enough to walk down Ali’i Dr to the main shopping/dining center of town. Convenient location to the airport as well and you cannot beat the view from the lanai! The hosts have thought of everything and then some at this property.

Beautiful updated condo on ocean

We’ve been staying at the Sea village for 20 plus years and this was one of our favorite ones. The owners recently updated areas very tastefully! We felt very at home and comfortable and truly enjoyed our stay! The owner was flexible and kind with an early check in and late check out which was much appreciated! I would recommend this condo which is very well stocked with everything you need! Very peaceful and loved that there weren’t any stairs for entry .

The Best

Have stayed in a dozen different condos on the islands over the years, and this unit in Sea Village was definitely the best. Immaculately clean, lanai right above the shore, parking close to the unit, new furnishings, very well-stocked kitchen, and within walking distance of tourist shops & restaurants. (Parking fees are exorbitant, so really appreciated being able to walk.) We saw whales, dolphins, and goats from the lanai. Would definitely stay here again. Hosts were very gracious.

Really lovely Kona stay

We had such a wonderful time at this property. We love to cook when we are on vacation and their knives are even sharp. Not a big deal for some people, but it mattered to us! :') We loved the view and the waves. We got to see a whale breach just off the lanai. The place was clean and comfortable for the 4 of us. They were super accommodating to our needs. It is close enough to town that we could go out to eat or snorkeling different places with ease. We easily found parking whenever we went back. We also met other people staying there and everyone was very nice and helpful. Cathy checked in with us regularly during out stay to make sure that everything was as expected and to see if there was anything we needed. It was very sweet. Excellent place for a vacation! My only regret was that we didn't stay longer.

Beautiful property

We experienced very high surf for the duration of our stay. Unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of the ocean breezes as the surf was crashing into the building. Otherwise we had a wonderful time while here and enjoyed the property and area. I would recommend this property as a wonderful location and facility.

Amazing views and amenities

We spent the week with my elderly mother. The condo has all amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. My mom sat out on the patio every morning and evening to listen to the waves and watch the sunset. The condo is very close to all the restaurants (walking 20 mins and 5 mins drive). Cathy was very responsive through out the process and our stay. We didn’t need the AC and enjoyed listening to the sound of the waves at night. Highly recommend this place.

Beautiful condo in a great location!

This condo is RIGHT on the water and we could not have been more pleased with the location and amenities! It was very well stocked with everything we needed and then some. We kept the windows open the entire time and it helped to cool the place as there is no AC. We spent a lot of time on the lanai and just loved watching the water and sunsets - and rain moving in too! The condo is in a prime location as well, close to many of the activities we had planned, as well as just far enough outside of downtown to lend some nice privacy. We truly enjoyed our stay here and recommend this place and the owners!

Oceanside Paradise

This is an amazing property, so close to the ocean and with all the amenities you need for a fantastic vacation. The condo itself is lovely with comfortable beds and furnishings. A fully equipped kitchen with more than just the basics so you don't need to buy salt and pepper or those other throwaway items so often needed in short term rentals. There is even a Keurig coffee maker with refillable pods so you can make your morning coffee with local Kona coffee. Beach toys, snorkel gear, chairs and a sun umbrella have been thoughtfully provided. There are lots of towels and even a supply of reef safe sunscreen. Bedding is comfy and the louvered windows allow for a nice air flow. We left the patio door open as much as we could but you are so close to the ocean that sometimes a big swell would splash the deck and we would have to close it for awhile. The lanai provides a beautiful view of Kona Town, the cruise ships when visiting and Kailua Bay. We saw pods of spinner dolphins, lots of kayakers, swimmers and even a couple of whales off shore. A really special place to spend the mornings enjoying coffee and all the sights. (Yes, there is even a pair of binoculars!) The Sea Village itself is a fantastic building with a great little pool overlooking Kailua Bay that has showers and lots of chairs. There is a grilling area with newer, well maintained Weber Grills. The grill area is well lit with picnic tables for people to set up for dinner or to just join the BBQ'er as dinner is prepared. The other guests and residents are very friendly and the "Grilling hour" was always a good time to get tips of where to go and visit. All in all this is a super spot. The condo is well maintained, the facilities are great, the views can't be beat and all the thoughtful extras are appreciated. Catherine is the host and was easy to get in touch with and did her best to answer our questions and accommodate our needs. This is a wonderful place to spend your vacation and we are already dreaming about our return!

May in Kona

The condo was exactly as depicted. It was very functional for our group. The location was ideal, being less than a mile from the restaurants and shops of Kona. The patio was great for meals and drinks while watching the sunset. The lack of a/c wasn't an issue with a steady ocean breeze coming through the condo. There was plenty of spare beach equipment to help save on rentals.

Best VRBO ever

Great location with amazing views. Close proximity to shopping and dining in Kona and also this cute little market with local artists. What put this VRBO in a different league from others we’ve stayed at is the abundance of amenities. Toiletries, sunscreen, coolers, beach chairs, pool noodles, basic cooking items; this place has everything. Usually you are stuck buying some basic item like sugar or spices when staying in a VRBO, despite you only being able to use a fraction of it. Having those items already in the kitchen eliminates a lot of waste and saves money. It was fantastic. We had an amazing time. Definitely will look to this place again when we are back on the island.

Aloha! My husband, Mike's, and my love of Hawai'i began when we got married on the island of Kaua'i just "a few" years ago. We have since returned to Hawai'i many times and spent time on almost all the islands. We especially enjoy the Big Island for it's unique landscapes and Kailua-Kona's vibe. To start our day, we love walking to the pier and swimming on part of the Ironman course (with the spinner dolphins if we are lucky) or paddling with a local outrigger canoe club. Afterwards we (too often) like treating ourselves to a famous Island Lava Java cinnamon pull-apart while enjoying some live local music. Then it is time for further exploring. Now, we are excited to share our new condo and love of the island with our guests.

Why they chose this property

We love that Kailua-Kona has a little something for everyone. Within a short distance there are a wide variety of activities, fantastic restaurants, and a quaint historic downtown, not to mention that it's a great home base for touring many of the island's sights.

What makes this property unique

As home to the Ironman World Triathlon Championship, Kailua-Kona attracts people from around the world who want to swim, bike, and run on all or part of the Ironman course. Of course Kailua-Kona also attracts those who want to participate in ocean activities such as learning to surf, trying outrigger canoeing, scuba diving, snorkeling, paddle boarding, or viewing marine life on dolphin, whale, or manta ray tours. There are also lots of land-based activities - golfing, hiking, touring parks, natural wonders, and sacred sights, visiting coffee and chocolate plantations, or feasting at a luau. We're happy to share recommendations for these or any other activities that you are interested in.
