About this property
Thoreau Suite - A Large Studio With Mountain Views
All three accommodations have been designed with eco-conscious materials and pure design simplicity in mind. The wood for the timber-clad walls has been sourced from local sawmills. Handmade furnishings were crafted by local artisans and combined with 20th-century design classics. The artwork throughout the compound has been carefully curated from the owner's private collection.
The property features in the tastefully converted barn two spacious junior suites and an apartment, all with generous private terraces, for a total of 6 guests, so there is plenty of room to bring the family or a group of like-minded travel friends.
Simplicity and comfort are the driving forces for all three accommodations. Wake up with spectacular sunrises, expansive opening floor-to-ceiling windows reveal vistas of rural Bearnaise life and mountain ranges which you can admire from your private terrace or bed.
Each space is cozy and with everything you might need for an unforgettable stay.
Thoreau Suite: size studio 33 m2 / private terrace 44 m2 / private yard 21 m2. The suite is equipped with a small kitchenette for breakfast preparations. There is also a communal kitchen for serious cooking.

About the host
Hosted by Jens Eric Büttner

When we first discovered the property it was mixed feelings. It was love at first sight with the stunning views over the smooth rolling hills towards the majestic mountains and the position of the site. The complex itself with its many buildings was far from perfect, but we immediately recognized the potential and had a vision of how what that place will look like in the future and took to work. Now, two years later after we have been working hard, we have built a jewel exactly the way we imagined.
The question we are asked most frequently is why we settle in this region, in this place, and not elsewhere. After spending most of our lives living in metropolitan areas from Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Paris to New York, and traveling the world for our work, we wanted a place that is calm and peaceful and far away from all that hustle and bustle of our professions. We are both still active in our respective creative métiers, Angelika as a fashion/beauty photographer and book author and I, Jens Eric, as an antique/art dealer and interior consultant.
We are not your typical hosts. Due to our creative activities, we give this outstanding place its individual identity and apply our lifestyle alchemy of worldly style, to infuse this new project with our passions of life to create a unique place to bring together people, culture, creativity, and fun.
We are committed to capturing the essence of boutique farm living with a peaceful ambiance, nestled in preserved nature, where our guests can experience modern comforts and the beauty of nature in a rural setting.

Why they chose this property
The perfect fusion of minimalism and authenticity, Domaine Aari Ona breathes fresh life into Béarnaise heritage traditions in this old Béarnaise style farm compound originally built in 1763, located right in the lush green rolling hills of the Vallée de Barétous. Situated at 380m above sea level, the domain overlooks the village of Aramits with stunning, scenic 360-degree views of the Pyrénées Béarnaise. Domaine Aari Ona is right in the heart of 7.5 ha, in a breathtakingly beautiful setting of private lands composed of pastures for organic farming, woodlands, and cultivated gardens with vast lawn areas planted with mature trees which allow for calm, serenity, and rest in a peaceful place close to the vastness of nature.
What makes this property unique
The property mainly comprises 5 buildings with 540 sqm of living accommodation, well-being facilities with a swimming pool (May to October), sauna (October to April) and a fully equipped gym, and 3 seminar/reception rooms (120 sqm, 75 sqm, and 60 sqm).
