Lovely lakeside location
Wonderful lakeside location and a very cute cabin. Very nice host. We knew ahead of time that the well water was not potable, what we didn’t know was that it had a silver smell and was brown. Unfortunately the bed is very old and creaky and not suitable for two people so we used the pullout sofa bed as backup. It was also very uncomfortable and dirty and had no mattress pad. Sheets and blankets were available. Both items need replacing. The cabin also has a terrible moldy smell. We left early because of this.

Great little place
My wife and I had a great time. Fran was a gracious host. The use of her boat and kayaks really made it fun. The private beach was also a bonus. Fran recommended some very nice restaurants in the area. We’re looking forward to return in the future.

Northwood Stay
Fran and her family were lovely hosts. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Before my son and I went fishing, Fran even helped us search for live worms in her yard. Her son also helped by providing advice on gear and technique from his many years of trout fishing.

Great place!
Stayed at the cottage from July 4 - 9. We were blessed with the a great weather. Little too hot but the proximity to the lake makes it so much better. The cottage is small but very cozy and has everything you might need. Perfect for 2 people. The hostess iis wonderful, she lives next door and very nice and and gracioius. You will have access to a private beach right in front of the house, and will meet many friendly people who live near the beach. Only 1.5 hr drive from our home in Boston, but seems so far away - totally different world! We loved it.

Great Spot for a Weekend Getaway
My wife and I enjoyed a lovely weekend at the cottage. Fran met us for a quick and easy check-in. The location is quiet and relaxing, and we enjoyed visiting the pond (and the ducks!). Although the weather was mostly rainy, we squeezed in a visit to nearby Bedrock Gardens and visited nearby Dover and Durham (about 25-30 minutes away but easy to get to). It was a great getaway!

No clean water, obstructed views
This was a planned romantic getaway that was otherwise good except for one glaring issue: the water. Upon check-in, we were provided with two gallons of drinking water and some bottles in the fridge, but did not expect that the tap water was not to be used for washing dishes, brushing teeth, or showering (I accidentally brushed my teeth out of habit and fell ill). Further, we noticed an odd smell coming from the bathroom—even the standing toilet water reeked and wafted throughout the entire cottage. We mitigated this by keeping the bathroom door closed. No way would we shower in water that smells. Wish we had known there was effectively no potable running water prior to booking. The area was beautiful, but the listing did not mention the view of the lake from the cottage would be obstructed by a large religious icon. It pains me to write this…charming cottage, kind host, beautiful lake…but the water situation and omission of the view detail are disappointments.

Lovely cottage and host
Fran is a most gracious host and the cottage is lovely. It was very clean and we were even treated to her delicious homemade zucchini bread, hot from the oven! The private beach was just that...PRIVATE! Just the relaxing getaway we were looking for. My husband enjoyed fishing in the pond very much. There is a DVD player, as stated in the description, which is good since there are very few channel options for the TV. We did bring a movie to enjoy one night, and we relaxed by the fire pit on the next night. Fran recommended some local area restaurants which we visited and were pleased with. The Northwood's Brewing Company was definitely worth a visit. The only issue we had at the cottage was with the water. We couldn't use it for drinking or bathing due to an issue with the well. Fran did provide gallons of spring water as well as stock the fridge with bottled waters for drinking and cream for coffee. We would love to return to this cozy cottage and are hopeful that the water issue will be resolved. Thank you, Fran for sharing your home with us!

Enjoyed our stay in Northwoods NH
Dear Fran, Thanks for a great week at your cabin. We especially enjoyed early morning kayaking, morning swims and being close to several state parks. It was a good jump off point for visiting sites in Portsmouth and Concord. We enjoyed local sites such as Calef’s General Store and the Lazy Lion Restaurant. Hiked at Pawtuckaway State Park, challenging but good. Morning coffee and dinners on the porch were great we were visited by Hummingbirds, a wild turkey, and woodpeckers and saw a heron and loons on lake. We enjoyed hopping in the kayaks to go fishing every day.

Beautiful, relaxing getaway
Fran is a warm and gracious hostess. The cottage is comfortable and quaint, perfect for a couple, and it was spotless when we arrived. The location is fantastic. We had a great time rowing around the lake, and a lovely evening by the fire pit. It's far enough from the beaten path that we didn't have to deal with any noise or traffic, but there are several nice local restaurants in the area, as well as a neat little local cinema (Barn Z's). Would definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

Beautiful & Relaxing
Fran was very sweet, informative and kind. She made the whole process extremely easy, comfortable and enjoyable. My girlfriend and I loved her place. The cottage is cute and cozy. And with just a 20 foot walk you’ll be on the beach, relaxing by the beautiful pond. She has row boats and kayaks for use, which was great. She also has wood to start a bonfire. I’m happy she provided bug spray cause we forgot and it did get buggy..but once sprayed it was fine. Definitely worth it.

It was exactly as listed. Charming little house with spectacular views. Private beach, great fishing, and very quiet. One of the most relaxing vacations I've had. Listening to all the birds in the morning was soothing. Will definitely stay again. Thank you very much Fran. It was an amazing stay.

Short Quiet Getaway to wrap up Week long Vacation
Searched last minute for places in NH/ME for quiet weekend and came upon this tiny cottage, rates comparable to most hotels and then some. Booked Wed for Fri-Sat stay. Contacted our host, Fran, early Friday for late check in, and she was most accommodating. After meeting w Fran she gave us the crash course on the unit, the pond, use of kayaks, canoes, and rowboats, and reviewed many of the town restaurants and supermarket, all very close driving. There remained in the unit a folder with all this info plus various menus and brochures, very handy. Plus we were told there may be a bagpiper at dusk. We unpacked and quickly checked out things on our own, I was very impressed with the grill. Our plan for the night was supermarket to include some nice rib eyes, and then to local sports/pizza bar, food very comforty. Made pot coffee Sat morning then went to the Northwood Diner, anything you want for breakfast anytime. Tried various kayaks, I went with rowboat in the end, but Patty loved one of the sit ins and she went with that. Nice pond, no motorboats, cottages all nicely tucked in to surrounding landscape, clean water, warm for swimming. Not so huge that you get lost. Grill and cook dinner Sat night. Cold front came through with downpour kind of dashing hopes for bonfire but stayed in and did some reading. I read a book on the pedestal, a work of fiction. it turns out the author is Fran's husband John, and he is also the anonymous piper. Alas we did not get a chance to meet him or see him play, perhaps we may get the opportunity next time we book. Regards, Mike and Patty

Peace, tranquility, and quiet - a great restorative stay.
The cottage was lovely with all the comforts of a stay with a friend - ncluding half & half for my coffee! Fran is a gracious host whom I felt very comfortable with from the moment we met. The quiet of the pond was so restful - I needed a break from work and stress - and the pond gave it to me. I hope to return again. Sherri H.

Perfect!
We were looking for a quiet place to spend some quality time, just the two of us; Fran's place was perfect for us, and Fran is an AWESOME host. Her place is next door, and she was there to greet us about two minutes after we pulled up. The cottage is spotless, and it is small., but it's plenty roomy enough for a couple. The bed was the most comfortable we've had in any rental, and the kitchen was well equipped. The wifi is strong, so we were able to stream anything without any issues. The location was good, too. We didn't get to spend as much time on the lake as we would have liked, but that was because of the weather. Northwood is an easy drive to Manchester, which we enjoyed exploring - especially the Currier Museum. Fran was warm, helpful, and generous.- she left us some delicious tomatoes fresh from her garden, and helped us bail out the rowboat. If you want a nice quiet place that's a good base for exploring the area, you can't do better than Fran's place.
