About this property

Ponderosa Cabin ~ rustic comfort + WiFi by Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

The Ponderosa Cabin offers a rustic setting with vintage charm, along with modern amenities. After spending the day at nearby Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, enjoy cocktails on the spacious deck, a hot shower in the clawfoot tub, games by the fireplace (knockoff game of Twister anyone?). Or just read and relax in the main bedroom downstairs or upstairs bedroom. The Ponderosa Cabin has gorgeous interior walls of knotty pine. And yes, there's Internet--when you need it. You’ll find a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of room in the cabin for up to 4 guests.

Our cabin, fondly named after the beautiful Ponderosa pine tree with golden bark, is nestled in a quiet setting. You may see wild turkeys up the hill in the morning or deer grazing at dusk at certain times of the year. At higher elevation in the National Parks you’ll find Ponderosa pines growing alongside giant Sequoias. It's a 20 minute drive to the entrance of Kings Canyon (Big Stump entrance) along Hwy 180. This is the best of all worlds: you have a gateway to the National Parks and a private setting in the woods. If you like the mountains, this is your retreat.

If there is snow at higher elevations in the winter or early spring, tire chains could be required in the National Parks and on Hwy 180. Kings Canyon National Park is at 6000+ ft. elevation; it may be clear at the cabin but you could encounter snow as you head up into higher elevations.

Please remember this is not a hotel. Access to parks is convenient but local roads are narrow. Note there's an unpaved road for a quarter mile leading to the cabin. There are no grocery stores or banks near the cabin, although there's a restaurant in walking distance. (Grant Grove Village in Kings Canyon NP is 30 minutes away by car, and there are gas stations, convenience stores and restaurants along Hwy 180.)

Rustic Excellence!
Just what we needed! Silent, cozy, rustic hideaway, just 20 min's from Kings Canyon/Sequoia. Took gorgeous hikes each day, warmed up by the fire at night. Kitchen had everything we needed, and Li and Tali were always available, friendly, and generous with information and helpful tips. Thank you :)

Quiet and relaxing rustic cabin in the woods
Li's cabin is just a short (and beautiful) drive away from Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP. Everything is comfortable -- nice deck for breakfasts and dinner, great fireplace, comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen. Li is a gracious host, and gave us all the directions and help we needed. A+

Lots of fun!
Very clean, nice little cabin for four. Two twin beds in a loft upstairs, and a queen bed downstairs in a separated bedroom. Good communication through host. Everything as advertised.

A traditional, western cabin in the woods. Very quiet and secluded. Takes you back in time. Many retro and unique objects to reminisce about. A truly unique experience.

Great rustic cabin in the woods
My husband, adult daughter and I stayed at the cabin for three nights. Great location about 20 minutes outside Kings Canyon and 5 minutes down the road from Pinehurst Saloon. ( Burgers were good!) The cabin is rustic but in good working order, some fun and quirky deco. We would recommend a stay here.

Great cabin near KCNP/Sequoia
Had a great time visiting the parks and using this as our home base. Grilled for dinners and enjoyed the porch. The listing is accurate - window unit AC in the main bedroom but it cooled down enough to sleep upstairs with fans. Li was really helpful and helped prepare for our stay. Enjoyed our time here

Perfect
My wife and I stayed which allowed us to beat the crowds to sequoia nat park to see morrow rock and giant trees . Then day 2 we beat the crowd to kings canyon. The home had all that we needed. The ac kept the place cool even in 90 plus weather. Yes the dirt road is bumpy…so take it slow..the place is worth it.

Exceeded all expectations
Exactly how it was described. Perfectly isolated. Water was hot, all appliances worked well, stocked with board games. Verizon phone service worked. Li and Tali both easily reachable and both very helpful whenever we needed anything, even if just advice about the park. Strongly recommend the Pinehurst Lodge after a long day at the park. Great food and a fun, chill atmosphere. We would have eaten there everyday had we stayed longer.

Ponderosa Cabin
It was wonderful! The cabin was cozy and had all the amenities needed (except a pool!!! LOL!) The host, Li, was great, the most attentive host that I have encountered and I have experience with VRBO. The property manager, Tali, was fantastic as well, always available and very helpful. I would strongly recommend this property particularly if you are visiting KC and Sequoia NPs. This was the best experience with VRBO that I have had.

A quirky, but AWESOME cabin!! WE LOVED EVERYTHING! We were worried about dust because my daughter has had a lot of asthma issues & even traveled with a nebulizer. SHE HAD NO ISSUES BECAUSE THE CABIN WAS SO CLEAN, AND SHE EVEN SLEPT IN THE ADORABLE LOFT! The cabin is very safe behind a locked gate. The owner & caretaker were absolutely THE BEST! Excellent communication before and during our trip! They even mailed our lost stuffed animal to us!! We wish we would have skipped Yosemite and just lounged at this perfect cabin! You should stay here!!

Cabin in a Forest
I stayed at the cabin with my family for 4 nights, and it was very relaxing and peaceful. It had all the listed amenities in good condition. Li (Property Owner) and Tali (Property Manager) were readily available and kept in touch before and throughout the stay. The cabin is just about 20-minute drive away from the closest Sequoia National Park entrance (Big Stump) and its nearby trails. While the location offers a quick access to the national park, the cabin itself is surrounded by a forest past its own entrance gate. We enjoyed watching all kinds of birds--a deer too--and listening to them as well as a nearby stream. Beautiful views from inside and the patio add much to the serenity there. It's a perfect place to read, reflect, appreciate nature, and be with loved ones.

Rustic Quiet close to the Park
This kitchsy cabin is a very rustic but comfortable retreat down a dirt road. It feels pretty isolated although there is a neighbor above the property. It's not a place for the high maintenance traveler. But if you enjoy being surrounded by trees and birds and quiet and are looking for a place with easy access to the Park, this does the trick. I can imagine winters would be a bit more challenging but the fireplace works really well to heat the main part of the house and there are space heaters, although running two at a time might make the circuit blow. Bring all your food with you! Li was kind and easy to communicate with.

I believe that the Ponderosa Cabin will always have a place in my mind and my heart as the best country house I have ever visited. Isolated, surrounded by nature, roustique, original and vintage, gave me the feeling of visiting my grandparents house up in the mountains. Kids loved the attic and all of us enjoyed the board games that were available. The fireplace makes the whole experience even better! Moreover, the owner has been great with communication and resolved any question I had in time. The only negative thing is the network coverage in the area, depending which provider you have. However, there is efficient wifi in the cabin to stay connected ... if you wish! One more thing to add is that the location is perfect for those that plan a visit to Kings Canyon and Sequoian NP. Only 15-20 mins from the north entrance, the one closer to Kings Canyon. Last but not least the cost. I would say that for what it offers and compared to per night stays' values in the area, the price is fair enough.

About the host

Host profile image
Twenty years ago, Li spent a summer at Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks working on a botany crew and discovered giant sequoias, the largest living things on the planet. As an outdoor enthusiast, she’s hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Virginia, did a pilgrimage (of sorts) with her husband on El Camino de Santiago, and roughed it in the deserts of California, Utah, and Arizona. But her favorite place is the mixed conifer forests of the Sierra Nevadas– the only place in the world where giant sequoias can be found on its western slopes.
