## Emplacement
A corsair town facing the sea, Saint-Malo is today a renowned seaside resort. A belt of ramparts, the close town of Saint-Malo was admirably rebuilt identically after it was destroyed to 80% in August 1944. It is a superb set that forms the Maloian city, with its ramparts, its castle and its beautiful buildings. Unmissable, the promenade of the ramparts offers splendid views of the sea, the sandy beaches at the foot of the ramparts, the Fort National (work of Vauban), the harbour and the buildings of the city intra-muros. To learn about the history of Saint-Malo, head to the large dungeon of the castle that houses the museum of history of the town and of the Malouin country. Visitors can also visit the Grand Aquarium of Saint-Malo, a space entirely dedicated to the marine world. Every four years, the Maloese city hosts the start of the Route du Rhum, a famous solo transatlantic sailing race that connects Saint-Malo to Pointe-a-Pitre in Guadeloupe.
