Enjoy the tranquility of the Wisconsin River at rustic Jacks Cabin. Just 100 feet from the back deck flows the river, where you can fish, swim, canoe or kayak, run in the sand or watch large numbers of wildlife. There are deer, turkey, fox, eagles (and many more bird species) to be seen. Smallmouth bass, walleye and pike can be caught in the river by you and your family. The cabin is just 20 minutes from famous Wisconsin Dells or Baraboo. The Aldo Leopold Historical Site is just down the road, and Madison is a short 40 minutes away. Sit on the deck and watch the river flow by.

Unfortunately our days were in the 90s with dew points in the 70s! BUT, the river was what we came for and it was great. We found so many animal and clam tracks. Caught lots of fish too small to keep. Found some tree frogs and cicadas. The dogs ran and played and swam!
We have been coming to Jacks cabin for many years, and no we are visiting with a grandson. Although our last visit was a few years back, we were happy to see no much has changed. It’s a perfect quiet getaway close enough to the Dells to make day trip. It’s always a perfect visit! Thank you for all the memories!
Everything was great. Everything worked. Ample firewood. Dogs only bark when you arrive, then they’re quiet. We had 8 in our group, our 25th consecutive year of camping in the area, but this our first house as we tent camped b4. 6of8 want to return. 2of8 didn’t like dealing with the mosquitos. I still give it 5 stars because the mosquitos are everywhere along the river, regardless… John Love was responsive and kind. Thank you John for sharing your family’s history and perfectly secluded home. -Rob.
We had a wonderful stay the week of 4th of July. We enjoyed the nature and wildlife. You were not joking about those mosquitoes lol but it was so nice and relaxing
Have stayed at Jacks Cabin for 5 years now, with our Chocolate Lab, and since our kids were first born. Nothing overly fancy and everything you need! River was high for our stay this year and up to the ditch in back yard- and hence mosquitos were pretty terrible. But John makes that very clear in all the booking info that could happen- so we were warned. Cabin had plenty of tiki torches and bug spray to help. Didn’t get to spend as much time This year in the yard and on the river as years past, but you can’t go wrong with the location of this cabin. Devils lake, mirror lake, Wi. dells and Baraboo kept Us busy for our stay. We will be back!
We enjoyed it so much it was amazing. definitely will be going back. One thing is the one neighbors dogs constantly barked at everything and anything even if there was nothing there. But other then that it was amazing. Definitely will be going back and telling people to go there.
This was a wonderful place to stay. Nice big backyard. Only a 20/30 minute drive to Wisconsin Dells or Devil's Lake. I love that I was able to bring my dog. The neighbors have dogs and they were loud but they did not bother us. Overall it was a great place to stay.
Spent 2 nights at the cabin to do a canoe trip dropping in at the wisconsin dells dam and floating all the way to the cabin. Spent most of the time grilling on the deck and hanging out at the camp fire. Everyone had a great time and will definately book again!!!
We stayed for 2 nights at Jack's cabin and it was such a wonderful family property! We really enjoyed the location, midway between Wisconsin Dells and Devils Lake State park. We also enjoyed all of the unique touches that come with renting a family cabin - we had a very special time. Thank you!! :)
Very pleased that everything was provided. Loved the firepit and really enjoyed sitting outside watching all the birds.the first night we heard the whooping crane and saw it fly by. Kids loved the beach, and close proximity to the Dells and Baraboo. Great Vacation!!
This property is in such a relaxing area. It is 15-20 minutes to get almost anywhere but we knew that and were ok with that. We didn’t battle the mosquitoes I see everyone mention but there were a lot of spiders. That is just due to the location. I loved that there were extra towels and pillows. The shower is pretty small (It’s a cabin afterall) and my husband is a very big tall guy so he did have a bit of a hard time. Not a complaint at all, just an observation. The dogs across the street do bark a LOT but no dogs came to visit us. We did see lots of wildlife and enjoyed fishing right out back. This is a cabin so you have to not expect a 5 star hotel. It was very cozy and we would definitely stay again if we were in the area!
This cabin is just what we needed. We brought our 4 kids to the dells. We also brought the dogs. The cabin was perfect. We fished when back at the cabin. As noted this is in the woods and bugs are around. We prepared and brought what we needed. Had no issues. There is a beautiful fire pit. We didn't use it but was set up perfectly. Definitely will stay again.

About the host

This property was purchased by my grandfather, John V. (Jack) Cairns in 1944. I spent weekends and summers there from the time I was five until I enlisted in 1968. I lived there for two years from 1973 to 1975. My grandfather willed this property to his daughter, my mother, who willed it to her four children. The only one with any personal interest in keeping the Cabin was me, so eventually I bought them out. I maintain it as a rental to pay the bills and keep it up.. John Love
