About this property

Private Lakefront Home-Hot Tub-Great for Families-Large Yard-Quiet-Shallow Entry

This is an Upscale All-Season Vacation Property! This Highland Lake home is on two quiet acres with a small sandy beach, shallow entry to the lake (great for kids), 200+ ft shoreline, 50ft dock and all the amenities and activities to create memories for a lifetime. Sitting areas, dining, BBQ, hot tub, porch swing, fire pit, and hammock are all overlooking a beautiful 3 mile long lake within 5 miles of Portland, ME. A large yard offers volleyball, wiffle ball, frisbee, lying in the sun and more. Enjoy the eagles, frogs, turtles, flowers, birds at the window feeder, fish, and more...just outside your door!

New in 2024 is a queen bed upgrade from full bed and new pullout sofa and love seat with 3 new tables. Recent all new kitchen appliances, added half bath, new pots/pans set, and new flooring in two bathrooms and a hall. Very well maintained.

This is a home with all the comfortable living amenities as opposed to typical 'rentals' and thus you see the many 5 star reviews.

What to Expect: This wonderful lakefront home offers all you need for a relaxing lakeside vacation. Enjoy, swimming, kayaking, or just relaxing on the lawn, hammock, float or dock. The property comes furnished with 2 kayaks, 2 canoes, and plenty of life vests. An 8 person hot tub faces the lake. There is a great dock bench seat for morning coffee or watching the swimmers or wildlife, hammock for that afternoon snooze and fire pit for marshmallows and winding down in the evening. There is no off-season here! The hot tub is on year-round. In the fall you can enjoy some spectacular canoe/kayak rides and the plethora of hiking in the area. In the winter, you can ski Shawnee Peak which is just 45 minutes away or Sunday River which is 1.25 hrs away. Highland Lake offers wonderful ice fishing, skating, cross country skiing and beautiful snowmobile trails.

C'mon In! Step in the front door and immediately take in the breathtaking lake views you’ll find along the length of the house through large windows. The living room has several love seats, one that has 2 individual reclining, rocking seats and an HDTV and Bose CD/AM/FM Stereo. Two swivel and rocking (ahhh) chairs overlook the lake and are perfect for that morning cup of coffee watching the sun rise and the birds at the feeder or reading in the afternoon while viewing the kids jumping off the dock and swimming to the float, playing on the lawn, or laughing in Hot Tub just below. Perhaps a change of venue moving to the shade outside on the porch swing under the deck or to the hammock listening to the waves splash gently on the beach. Take an outdoor shower as you enjoy the sounds of nature and view of the beautiful lake.

The dining table is large and there is an additional folding table to extend even further. The island has 4 stools for drinks and chatting while making a meal in the kitchen. There are two ACs for those hot summer days, a beautiful gas fireplace for those chilly winter nights, and everything in the kitchen from lobster cooking supplies to a pancake griddle to serving dishes and even owner spices, oils, and more to use at your convenience. Since this is a home while not rented, there will be all the extras needed that you won't find in a bare bones "rental".

Lake Information: Highland Lake is 3 miles long and up to 3/4 mile across with depths up to 65 ft deep. Highland Lake only offers a public hand carry boat launch for canoes and kayaks which keeps motor boating traffic low. Fisherman find small and large mouth bass, white and yellow perch, and pickerel. Other lake wildlife includes loons with their beautiful calls in the evening, eagles, ducks, blue heron, turtles, beaver, and more.

Portland, Maine has been named Best Restaurant City of the Year, Best City to Live, Safest City, and Best Craft Beer City in the World! Portland is only 5 miles away from the lake house!

Family Gathering
This site was great for family members 9 - 70. Family room was fun for everyone. There were enough spots for everyone to have quiet time when needed and a gathering spot for everyone to visit. All family members enjoyed this spot very much.

What a wonderful home base for our Maine, Mass, NH trip! We had a great time with friends at the house and as we traveled. Beautiful sunrise views every morning and an enjoyable fire pit in the evening! Couldn’t have been better!

Just as described
Perfect house with lots of sleeping space for our large crew. The hot tub and fire pit were great additions for low key evenings at the house. Seamus was attentive and ready to help us with whatever we needed, though this house so well stocked we didn’t lack any necessities.

Living the life
The house and property are exactly as Described. The locatuon is beautiful, the house is clean and well stocked with really anything you an think of… we needed to pump up the basketballs and eith little effort found a pump to do just that! Aside from the paddleboat not steering.. which became part if the amusement…the boogie boards, noodles, kayaks, canoes etc were alk put to good use. The hot tub is always a treat for kids of all ages and that too was clean and easy. We liked that we could see it easily from windows and deck since we had 5 children between ages 4-8. So much to say, all positive. Thank you Seamus.

Great Lake home
My family and friends had a great stay at the lake house. There was a problem with the neighbor cutting down trees, using a back hoe, and a chipper for three days straight, very disappointed, with the level of noise. The house was accommodating to our needs.beautiful lake, great area.

One of the Best Houses in the Area
My friends and I spent a weekend here. The spot was awesome and was very clean. The owner was also very attentive constantly checking to see if we needed anything. Though the weather was crappy, we spent most of the time using the amenities provided such as the hot tub and ping pong table. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Perfect for families
This Highland Lake property has everything that a family (or multiple families) with young kids could want for a fun-filled getaway. Spacious and well organized house with a basement room that has books, games and ping-pong table; a big, grassy backyard that has a swing set; sandy beach; swim raft; canoes and kayaks (and life vests for every age); a hot tub; a paved front drive for basketball and trike riding. We did it all and loved it all.

Beautiful and spacious house w/ lots of boats
Our group has been doing a lakeside getaway every year for the past 9 years, and this may have been the best house we've stayed at. It really has everything one would want -- an amazing selection of boats in which to explore the lake, a nice dock and swimmable water, a hammock spot for reading, a firepit, a hot tub, a ping pong table with enough elbow room around to really have fun, and even a basketball hoop. That's not even getting to an excellent shaded deck, large lawn, and a well-stocked kitchen. Seamus keeps his house in great shape and is an excellent host. He made the booking process very easy, answered all of our questions at a moment's notice, and made us feel very welcome. The house is 20 minutes away from downtown Portland, 5-10 minutes away from grocery stores and wholesale clubs, but feels like it's the middle of nowhere. Can't recommend it highly enough!

The perfect getaway home!
We were so impressed with this home! It had enough space for all of the kids, which was essential with ages ranging from 4-13. It was very clean and the owner was extremely helpful. Since it was the end of Dec., we thoroughly enjoyed the hut tub and its ease of use. I would definitely recommend this property!

Highly Recommend
Fantastic property - exceeded our expectations. Seamus is a consummate host - anticipating all of a guest's needs. We felt comfortable utilizing all the amenities on the property (canoes, hot tub, gas grill, games, etc.) but also knew where to find extra life jackets, spare propane tanks, etc. Big enough for our large group - the kids loved playing in the yard, pedal boating to the raft, playing with the neighbor's kids, etc. Great house, close proximity to Portland, would highly recommend, it's exactly as decribed and is a well cared for property.

Delightful lakeside retreat weekend!
What an absolutely beautiful and delightful lakeside property! Exactly as described, this house was beautiful and clean, and comfortably fit our group of 11 best friends for a quiet long weekend getaway. The kitchen was stocked with all the tools we needed to cook (and a great gas grill on the deck!), and we enjoyed the hot tub, kayaks, fire pit, and the large lawn for lawn games (we brought cornhole and ladder golf along with us, but the house also had volleyball, wiffle ball, and lots of other games). The house was a quick 25ish minute drive to downtown Portland, and there were two local cab companies that would both pick up and drop off to the house, in both directions, when we didn't want to drive. Also plenty of Uber drivers in Portland that would go to the house (I think it was only $18-20 from downtown to the house in an Uber, very reasonable). Seamus was a pleasure to deal with, and very communicative and left very clear instructions for taking care of the house and getting full use out of all the amenities. Great owner, and great host, that went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great. My only regret was that we only stayed 3 nights, would have loved to have been relaxing here for a whole week!

Great place for family getaway
Seamus' house was just perfect for the 12 of us (6 adults, 6 kids ages 4-9). The house was wonderfully equipped with everything you might need, and the lake was beautiful. The kids loved sleeping in the "cousin room" downstairs, and the abundance of toys/games/etc was a nice bonus. Seamus was a great host. He was there when we arrived, showed us around, and went out of his way to make himself available in case we needed anything.

Impeccable rental experience
Ive been meaning to write a review (which I rarely do) since we had left our vacation because of how much we enjoyed our time and the experience I had dealing with Seamus was nothing less than perfect, he is helpful in every way possible without being over bearing. After dealing with some very unreasonable renters in the past I cannot express my appreciation more when it came to the rental process. We had a blast on our time away and the house was perfect for a large group of adults and 3 little ones. As many others commented as well the pictures do not do it justice. One plus I wanted to point out was the house came equipped with everything you would need in a kitchen so we did not need to bring anything besides food. Also the closets were stacked with extra bedding if needed and not to mention all the fun water vessels and toys we were aloud to use. A++ from everyone in our group! We look forward to coming back!

Beautiful family-friendly vacation home!!
This is a beautiful and very well-maintained property that was everything that our large group could have asked for. Seamus, the homeowner, was very responsive, kind, helpful and did everything possible to make our vacation special. We had a group of 12 adults and a little one (1 year-old), and the property was perfect - we spent our days playing games in the back yard, relaxing on the lake on the canoes and kayaks, fishing off the huge dock (and caught 8 fish off the dock!), rode our bicycles into Portland and visited a few of the local breweries, and even rented a pontoon boat on nearby Long Lake. We spent our nights hanging outside, relaxing by the fire pit and the hot tub. This home is very well maintained and the pictures don't do the property justice - the bedrooms are spacious and there are plenty of sleeping areas even for our larger group of adults. The location is secluded, very peaceful and the lake is beautifully serene without much motor boat traffic. Thank you, Seamus, for sharing your home with us!

Friendcation success!
Immediately after leaving we started talking about when we could come back. This house is wonderful, from the big things (hot tub! kayaks! ping pong table!) to the little things (spices in the spicerack, every chair being comfortable enough to nap in, games and puzzles for a variety of ages). The only reason I can think of to not give 5 stars would be to prevent other people from booking it so I could come again. Seamus is great, the house is great, just bring great people and you'll have a great time.

Best time EVER
Even before we arrived Seamus made us feel so welcome it was like we were staying with Family. When we arrived he showed us the property and went over everything and then left us to enjoy the place but he was always reachable by phone or text. The house is just amazing. Secluded enough so that you have your privacy but close enough to the main roads so that getting around wasn't a problem at all. The master bedroom has a temperpedic bed that is so comfortable that my brother-in-law wants to know which model it is so he can look into buying one. The other bedrooms were equally nice and the kitchen/living room upstairs were fantastic. Speaking of the kitchen we had a private chef come out (Edesia Maine, https://www.facebook.com/EdesiaMaine) to cook us a special birthday dinner for my mother-in-law and she said the kitchen was just perfect for all her needs. We went kayaking and canoeing on the lake, used the gas grill as much as we could, and had our coffee with some beautiful sunrises. This place was amazing and we look forward to coming back soon.

Beautiful vacation house
Had a great time on our first trip to Maine! The house was beautiful, with plenty of space for two families plus 1 set of grandparents. Convenient lake access with 2 canoes and 2 kayaks for guests use. Basement had a ping pong table, which was a big hit with the kids. Convenient to Portland for lots of dining options. Owner was very friendly.

Extreme FUN!!
It is a great feeling of entering a house just as going into your own house. Seamus leaves everything in the house whcih makes everyday very easy living and more important of great fun. The house is full of fun activities. You can play basketball, baseball, lacrosse, frisbee, pin pon, board games, etc. There is a beautiful bonfire place, children games kayaks, canoes, a very nice beach to swim in a very warm but refreshing water. There are nice place to go with your canoes look for turtles, frogs and fishes. The location is perfect, you have all kind of shops, restaurant and amusement parks. Highly recommended Funtown and the mini golf. We live in Chile, very very far away from Maine, but if I could return with my family again I would sure do it. Highly recommended for famiy with children. Unforgetable summer!

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up in the Mid Coast area of Maine and have lived in my lake house since 2000. I absolutely love the Maine "Vacationland" experience while also visiting nearby Portland which boasts dining and brewery national awards. I eagerly read the guest book notes to learn what adventures were enjoyed.

I am a professional executive both traveling and renting my Maine Lake House in Maine so families and friends can see the beauty and enjoy the activities offered creating memories for a lifetime.

Know that I respond to ALL travelers as quickly as possible and enjoy communicating directly with guests helping to ease all those details you want so perfect for your getaway.

Why they chose this property

Renting other properties I have realized what it is like when things don't work, the lack of items in the kitchen, lack of things to do, and what could easily be improved for the benefit of the guests. The lake house offers a different experience as it is a home so all the home amenities are offered right down to cooking spices, oils, baking supplies and plenty of extra dishes and utensils. Upgrades are common as I live here and maintain the home well. There is new carpeting in three of the rooms, a new deck sliding door, a new shed, new linens, new picnic table, new fire pit furniture, new dining set on the deck, lake toys, and more.
