"Ferien im Baudenkmal" combines heritage preservation and tourism. Historically valuable construction tools are taken over, gently renovated and rented as holiday apartments. The model makes a double profit: the monuments get a new future and holidaymakers experience a stay in an extraordinary building. The idea is realized by the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Homeland Security.
Parking: The public car park is about 150m from the house (in the village on the main street below the church). The parking is free and not covered. The driveway to the house is not guaranteed. Next to the church, a small footpath and stairs lead up to the house through the village.
Public transport: The bus stop is 150 meters from the house. Next to the church, a small footpath and stairs lead up to the house through the village.
Number of persons 6: There is a cot (up to 2 years) available. The house is accessed from a small footpath that separates the garden and the house from each other. To the left of the entrance is a cloakroom and to the right the bathroom with shower / WC. The stone staircase is high on the first floor of the fireplace room (unfortunately, for fireproofing reasons, the firing of the fireplace is not allowed). From the fireplace room it goes directly into the kitchen and from the kitchen directly in the living room. An arcade leads across the entire front of this floor. Each of the rooms is also accessible from this arcade. From the staircase leads another staircase up to the 2nd. Floor. On the mezzanine there is also a small toilet. From this mezzanine, a door leads to the north side of the house. In the 2. Floor there are three double bedrooms, which lead from room to room and are accessed via the outside gallery. This is a typical Ticino construction, which can be found in many ways in the valley.
Outdoor space and garden: The guests have a seat on the west and north side and a beautiful garden on the south side. The arcades facing the house are secured with a balcony railing. The distance between the bars is not according to today's safety regulations, but still used close enough. On the arcade you will find a small table with two chairs and a bench.
Open: Casa Döbeli is bookable from April to October.
Pets: Pets are allowed on request.

Important to note: The Val Onsernone is a very rugged and narrow valley. So are the inhabitants. Adorable but also a little bit own. Please take into consideration that the water in the valley is scarce.
CASA DÖBELI - Ticino elegance made of stone
History & Information
The Casa Döbeli is a Ticino town house from the 17th / 18th. Century in Russo in the Onsernone valley. It stands in the middle of the village, across the hillside in a promising location. The name of the house comes from the last inhabitant, Markus Döbeli, a philosopher and dropout. The high and narrow stone house has on two floors long suites with continuous arcades on the south side. As with all the monuments of our foundation, the renovation was carried out gently, respecting the character of the house. The Casa Döbeli is a holiday home for six people, in which a touch of southern charm can be experienced.

The original building is fully preserved. The restoration work was limited to the bare essentials. The original and historic elements such as built-in wardrobes, walls, doors and stone works have been preserved and gently restored. Some of Mr Döbeli's fixtures were removed, leaving others as witnesses to the story. To ensure adequate comfort, the bathroom and kitchen have been completely reinstalled. Likewise, all technical installations are renewed. In the bathroom, the new sanitary facilities are united in a single block in the center of the room. A wood burning stove allows heating of the kitchen and adjoining rooms. The ceiling height in the whole house is just under 2. 3 meters. Outside, the ruins walls were secured and additionally furnished a seat.

The Casa Döbeli is a monument that has been renovated with great respect for the existing substance. The tenant is aware of this and meets the object with care. Although technically state-of-the-art, certain functional details do not conform to current standards and harbor a potential source of danger. These circumstances are known to the renter. The owner, e-domizil and the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal disclaim all liability. The Casa Döbeli is only accessible on foot. From the public car park several stairs (about 100 m) lead up to the house.
