About this property

Elk Haus Cabin, 5BR, 2.5 Bath, Pool Table, Sleeps 10-12, Super Private

Large Modern 5 BR Cabin with warm In Floor Heat, Woodstove, Well-stocked kitchen, Pool Table and Wildlife Observation Tower/Hunting Blind next to Wildlife Water Drinkers. Cabin Guests Enjoy Exclusive Recreational and Hunting Rights on 700+ Acres of Prime Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope, Bear, Coyote, Bobcat, and Mountain Lion Habitat surrounded by Low Pressure Private land. There's also plenty of nearby public hunting and hiking on Little Sheep and Sheep Mountain. This property is a well traveled elk route between the Huerfano and Sheep Mtns to the South and the Muddy Creek and Green Mountains to the North.

It's just south of HWY 69 and is located in GMU 85 which has Over-The-Counter Bull Elk tags for 2nd and 3rd rifle seasons and OTC Either-sex Elk Archery tags. A half a mile from our boundary is the Wolf Springs Ranch which requires 19 preference points to draw. Colorado has the largest Elk Population in the Country. In fact there are about twice as many Elk in Colorado than Montana and about as many as New Mexico, Idaho, and Wyoming combined.

FOR HUNTING RENTALS PLEASE CONTACT OWNER DIRECTLY. DATES BLOCKED ON THIS CALENDAR TO ENSURE CONVERSATION PRIOR TO BOOKING HUNTS.

The property is available year round for Hiking, Scouting. No ATV's. It's located just a few miles out of the small town of Gardner, CO which has a General store/Deli, a bar, and some real characters. Gardner is located 30 minutes from I-25 in Walsenburg and 30-40 minutes from the resort town of Westcliffe which offers shopping and many dining options.

The setting is convenient, but secluded. The cabin is located at the base of Apache Ridge. There isn't another house to be seen for miles. There are the Snow capped Sangre de Cristos to the West and the Green Mountains to the North and East. From the top of Apache Ridge, you can see Big Sheep and Little Sheep Mountain. The driveway is over 1 mile long and is a dirt road. If rain or snow is in the forecast, 4WD is required.

Gardner is a historic town originally founded along the stage route from Westcliffe/Silvercliffe to Walsenburg. Some of the newly paved highway 69 is a proposed part of the 'Frontier Pathways Scenic Byway' passing the landmark Gardner Butte just as you come thru town. The entire area was hunting grounds for Apache, Comanche, and Ute Indians with plenty of artifacts and arrowheads remaining.
This property is a great place to get away from the city lights and see the open sky. It's large enough to accommodate family gatherings and there are loads of attractions within an hour's drive including Great Sand Dunes National Park and Trout Fishing Opportunities.

Liked the Lodge

Views were great ! Plenty of room, open, and reminiscent of Colorado. Good to see the Elk wonder by. The road back to the lodge was typical of remote hunter's lodge in Colorado and is worth noting. We had a great stay and appreciated the communication with Brian. Looking forward to next year.

Highly recommend!

This cabin was awesome - super spacious, stunning views, and fun games and movies to enjoy. We had a great time climbing up to the top of the ridge in the back yard and exploring the riverbed out front with our two dogs. Stargazing was absolutely incredible every night. The woodstove and space heaters helped keep us warm through some pretty chilly, windy weather. Our group of 10 was able to cook in the open kitchen and eat together around the dining table easily. There was wifi and a nice big smart tv in the living room with three cozy couches. The primary bedroom with a full bathroom was on the main level across from another half bath and queen room. Downstairs with the pool table room held the second full bath with a tub, another queen bedroom, a room with a twin and a double, and the bunk room with an extra twin. Hot water was readily available and each shower had large shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottles that were very appreciated. The owner, Brian, was exceptionally kind and communicative. We’re so glad we were able to stay at Elk Haus!

Colorado getaway

The Elk Haus is such a beautiful cabin, clean and very spacious. There were only four of us, so we all got our own bedroom. The best part for me was the amazing view from the terrace of the Sangre de Christo Mountains as well as the spectacular stargazing at night. The remoteness (and quiet) made it the perfect getaway for our group of city dwellers. And Brian was a very helpful host, easy to communicate with and quick to respond to questions. I would definitely consider a return visit.

Great house and location

Perfect for our group of 11, very remote and quiet, with awesome views all around. Really appreciated the huge kitchen area with lots of cabinets and countertop and two refrigerators. Long driveway is a little sketchy, but I drove in and out every day with my Honda Odyssey. Owner is a great guy!

Lots of space for the family

It’s very isolated and the road to the house was pretty rough. Besides the heat not warming up enough. The house was well equipped and spacious. The views were beautiful from the mountains to the night stars.

Great location! Enjoyed the peace and quiet with family/kids.

No towels upon arrival, had to drive 2 hour and 10 minute round trip to get some. Otherwise was good.
